People dying has never been a problem for Trump. We got a preview of this for Hurricane Maria, where we went through the exact same process of denying that people were dying, claiming everything was great, and dismissing the people that died because it doesn't matter. Puerto Rico needs statehood (Or independence, their call), because Maria made it painfully clear that not only does Trump not give a fuck about them, the rest of the country doesn't either. Because we pretty much let him get away with it, and now we are screaming because he is doing the exact same thing to the rest of us.

As horribly wrong as this is, it is sort of a silver lining. Trump's pathalogical need to avoid blame is preventing him from achieving his authoritarian ambitions. Covid was the PERFECT time to expand federal power and consolidate his position, but he was too focused on avoiding blame to take it. Which is a huge relief. A Federal response would have been very helpful under any other administration, but I am very grateful that this administration is leaving it to the states.

Sort of true. Nuclear Proliferation is an extremely serious issue that has a huge damage potential. It is important, and every President since Eisenhower has prioritized it. However there is absolutely no reason to compare it to global warming. Dealing with multiple major problems at the same time is something that is intrinsic to every executive position, not just the Presidency. It is rather irrelevant which one is more serious, both are serious, and we can address both.

One of the worst parts of the American political system is that elections tend to be based on what the person did in the last couple months. The first 3 years of a Presidency are basically irrelevant to a reelection campaign, because people forget everything. If Trump loses, it will be because of things he does over the next 3 months, not anything he has done so far. If Trump magically starts being responsible and acts kind of decent, he will get reelected, because people won't remember him being horrible right now.

If Country A had 1,000 cases and 1 death, and Country B had 100 cases and 1 death, Country B should still be much worse.

JH even tracks this stat, calling it mortality ratio. It's a valid stat to have, and the US is doing better than many but not quite as good as health-care powerhouses like Chile, Malawi and Honduras.

Trump is still cherry picking in an attempt to defend his actions, which is fat fucking stupid because in the same interview he said it was the governors' job. The US is doing poorly in all metrics except mortality ratio and even in that stat it's not that impressive, just not as morbidly obese as the other stats.

He is picking cases tho. Which means the more cases the more it dilutes the death total. Since we have a Shit Ton of cases it dilutes the death total. Now have all deaths been reported as Covid-19 related? Also yes to give us some credit as much as our health care is getting crushed we might be doing a better job. Yet, to be fair again we are comparing apples to apples with other countries with "industrialized" healthcare. Wait, are we?
