WASHINGTON — For the American farmers President Trump counts on for support, the government money is flowing faster than ever.

Federal payments to farmers are projected to hit a record $46 billion this year as the White House funnels money to Mr. Trump’s rural base in the South and Midwest ahead of Election Day.

The gush of funds has accelerated in recent weeks as the president looks to help his core supporters who have been hit hard by the double whammy of his combative trade practices and the coronavirus pandemic. According to the American Farm Bureau, debt in the farm sector is projected to increase by 4 percent to a record $434 billion this year and farm bankruptcies have continued to rise across the country.

This happens regularly in dictator led elections.

I don't miss Bush, and I don't forgive him his crimes. The guy should be in jail for warcrimes. But with that said, 4 years under Trump has made me miss even the most basic of professionalism and civility. Bush was gracious and welcoming of his political opponent taking office. He knew the occasion was grander than his own political party and gave Americans a message of hope to try to get us all behind President (then -Elect) Obama.

I highly doubt Trump will give such a speech when (and if) Biden wins.

Not once did Bush brag about himself. Not once did he make disparaging comments on the Democrats. Not once did he make wild or inaccurate claims on what the Democrat president was going to do to us.

I'm pissed off that Trump manages to make Dubya look good.

The "radical left" has been doing this for ages. I was in the 7th grade when I learned about the raping, pillaging and mutilating Columbus and his men did. It was in our history book.

And they're right. China wasn't hurt at all by the tariffs. They just laughed and found other markets to trade with. Trump essentially strangled US farmers for no gain at all.

Indeed. While there is nothing inherently wrong with wanting a better trade deal, Trump promised he'd get the bigliest trade deal ever, and instead, created a massive sociliast bailout. I've posted in the past (and it's still true) that farmers are getting socialist bailouts, possibly even greater than the money they've gotten from sales. But also, mostly to large farming companies and not so much to family-owned farms, which is what he promised, but lied.

So far, China has been derelict on Phase One. In August, Bloomberg reported that they had bought only 27% of what they promised. More recently, they've purchased an increased amount of soybeans, 600,000 tons, which is higher than recent years...but they promised to buy 10 million tons, which means China has bought about one-third of what they promised. One-third is not a deal. One-third is pathetic.
