If they attempt to actually play nice at all at this point, even if the Republicans control the Senate, they further prove they are spineless and there are no consequences.

If the Democrats take the house and the presidency, they need to actually investigate Kavanaugh and have him removed for Perjury, if this new girl is confirmed, I would have them look into her and her religious group she hid originally and any omissions from her stuff there and do the same.

I would also have them investigate Trump and drag all his stuff to light, I would investigate McConnell personally and his actions in regards to Trump and how the Russians personally rewarded him and his state for him protecting Trump, I would investigate Lindsey, Tillis, Matt Gates and all the others who enabled him and were derelict in their duties and make the next few years a living hell for him and have all their lies and miss deeds plastered wall to wall on every news stations and sight for all to see.

I would also investigate Fox for their actions and lies and their pretending to be a news source to their viewers but claiming to be an entertainment source to get around honesty and would have them forced to either actually be honest or to put visible disclaimers on every show at the start, end and after every commercial break that their show isn't a news source and is entertainment. I would even push to force the hosts of such shows to verbally say it at the start of every episode.

Even if the Republicans keep the Senate, the Democrats need to go hard on them and refuse to play nice, make their lives a living hell and make them regret all they did and strip them of their image and their ability to lie to their people.

Biden could start issuing executive orders limiting their abilities to collect donations or other such stuff (Not sure the limits of them legally) but basically do executive orders that the entire nation agrees and make sure the house passes them as a law. Then watch the Republicans try and fight the executive order and make sure it is televised and when they try and claim that they support it but it over steps his bounds, his response right there, in the Senate in session and on camera is, "Well, a bill has passed the house about this very issue you claim to support and is sitting on McConnell's desk right now, instead of fighting this, put your money where you mouth is and lets vote on that bill right now for the cameras".

All they need is the president and congress and the Democrats can reign hell on them for all they have done, they just have to have the balls to do it, something they have never seemed to have when they get power for as long as I have been old enough to vote and payed attention.

Edit: AFK and off to bed, will check back later.
I think this is the reason that recent business community articles talked approvingly about a Blue Wave and democrats taking over the Senate as well as having Biden becoming President. McConnell in charge of the Senate with Biden as President is a recipe for disaster for the US, and for US businesses. Trump has destroyed much more of the US than Bush did, and a divided government going forward will institutionalize the Trump destruction and cost the business community hundreds of billions of dollars and maybe even trillions.

on a positive note, is Donald Trump a leading example of a fulfilling human life? Being a billionaire and eventually becoming a world leader is pretty much a fantasy you made up as a kid that doesn't ever really become reality.

So the moral of the story is: if you are corrupt and evil enough, you can succeed even if you are incompetent and run everyone around you into bankruptcy.

A LOT of people have wanted to destroy the US for a long long time. I see that you are 100% behind them and cheering them on.

in Trump's own words, you don't get to where he is in life without sacrifices and being (overly) nice or charitable. That could be said for all world leaders though.

I admire that aspect of the current president. He's 70 so even if he dies now, he has led the most fulfilling life possible for a human being.

hard not to become a billionaire when you both inherit it from your dad and make up the part about actually being a billionaire

Trump lies all the time about everything.

Also when talking about a man who
-- now has a name synonymous with failure/bankruptcy/debt
-- cheated on his first wife with his second wife
-- cheated on his second wife with his third wife
-- cheated on his third wife with a whore he had to pay $130,000 in an NDA
-- has been sued by the federal government because he was a racist, successfully, twice
-- is trying to end health care for millions of American taxpayers
-- condemns socialism while handing out dozens of billions to farmers who lost their sales due to a trade war he created
-- condemns socialism while engineering a tax bill to save him millions and his family even more
-- condemns socialism while spending most fo the last decade not paying taxes
-- has been attempting to deny government aid to cities he doesn't like
-- has intentionally made things worse in the Middle East regarding Iran, Iraq, and Palestine to the point of being praised by the Taliban, the terrorists that sent us into Afghaninstan in the first place and the terrorists whom Trump invited to picnic with oni the White House lawn
-- has been literally laughed off the world stage
-- has engineered a drop in American leadership in the world while encouraging Russian and Chinese
-- has tariffed our allies and MFN countries under National Security Lol
-- has intentionally courted white supremacists and literal torch-carrying Nazis
-- through inaction allowed a lethal outbreak killing over two hundred fifteen thousand Americans
-- has through inaction created a recession
-- has through inaction cost America more jobs than he created
-- has betrayed the coal, steel, and oil industries that fought for him
-- has betrayed the manufacturing (esp. airline) industries that fought for him
-- has had more vacancies and acting roles than any President in recent history, and as a result of which, has had multiple serious faiilures in leadership (such as Puerto Rico)
-- promised to balance the budget yet oversaw a widening deficit, even pre-COVID, and now leaves with the worst GDP/debt ratio since WWII ended
-- promised to close the trade gap yet widened it
-- stole millions in campaign funds and govenment funds to pay his own companies
    -- was impeached
-- is under audit for stealing up to $100 million from American taxpayers, even before the election
-- owes hundreds of million to banks, including foreign money laundering banks, with no hope of repaying in time
-- lied to New York State and/or insurers, giving two different property values, meaning he's guilty of at least one form of fraud and is currently under investigation for such
-- downplayed the lethal virus until it killed one of his supporters
-- downplayed the lethal virus until it delayed the SCOTUS appointment exposing his party's blatant hypocrisy
-- downplayed the lethal virus until it infected his wife
-- downplayed the lethal virus until he was responsible for three super spreader events (one rally, the motorcycle tour, and the Rose Garden Massacre)
-- downplayed the lethal virus until he caught it himself, which as we've seen, can leave lasting/permanent effects, especially in fat older fragile people
-- has repeatedly fought a peaceful transition from power, alleging fraud that hasn't happened yet (his own commission could not prove anything) and even planning to have states overrule their own citizens' honest, legal votes and just write in "Trump" instead, a direct attack on democracy itself
-- and as a direct result of all of this, could leave the Oval Office worse economically, worse in terms of health care, worse in terms of political standing, and worse militarily as he faces the rest of his life with a wife that knows he cheated on her, facing multiple state and federal investigations aiming to take back all the money he stole, throw him in jail, and watch his health deteriorate for the final years of his life

Maybe you could make a point that the first 70 years of his life which were lived consequence free were "fulfilling". You can't anymore. He's damaged the country he claims to love, he's fractured his own family, and it's a race to see if he runs out of money or healthy days to spend it first -- more than most old people.

"in Trump's own words" means nothing. Try reality first, it might be horrifying but at least it's honest, and tastes a lot less like orange-makeup-covered floppy old man dick.

    Yes.

    So would Pence.

    So would Kasich.

So would Harris, Pelosi, and yes, even McConnell.

Trump has proven over the years of his life that the only person that matters to Trump, is Trump. Say what you want about McConnell, he's a slowly dying dinosaur of a dying party, and he's a hypocrite, and I disagree with most of his policies, but at least he's competent and no stooge to Russia. At least he's not under investigation for fraud -- multiple times. At least he's never evicted people for being black. And near as I can tell, at least he never cheated on his wife. Plus, you know, all that other stuff about money and lethal outbreaks.

Your attempts at deflection of 3,000 plus pages of demonstrable evidence of Trump either screwing up or doing something outright evil with "well he must be a good guy, he's rich" will no longer play with this part of the audience. Feel free tio return to the conversation when you have someething other than handwaving to add, but, I won't see it.

    On topic:

I earlier posted that the Republican Party (in this context, not the Party of Trump) has already not just shot down Pelosi's $2.2 trillion relief bill, not just Trump's $1.8 trillion (yeah, he caved in negotiations) relief bill, but their own $1.1 trillion relief bill.

So why would Trump counter-offer even higher?

White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow said on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday that President Trump may propose a coronavirus stimulus package with an even larger price tag than the $2.2 trillion legislation that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has offered.

It's highly unlikely that a bill in the neighborhood of $2 trillion, let alone more than that, would win the support of Senate Republicans. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Friday that a stimulus deal is "unlikely" before the election.

After calling off the negotiations via tweet last week, Trump has now raised his offer to $1.8 trillion, spooked by the market reaction to his move and desperate to inject stimulus into the economy before the election.

Pelosi said the proposal was “one step forward, two steps back," accusing the administration of failing to include public health measures in the package that would help "crush the virus."

"Secretary Mnuchin is up to $1.8 trillion. So the bid and the offer is narrowing somewhat between the two sides," Kudlow said.

"President Trump actually has always said
    You fucking liar.

    — I've heard him say it in the Oval — as far as the key elements are concerned, the checks, the unemployment assistance, the small business assistance, we gotta help airlines out — he would go further. He's always said that."

"He knows that we need as much power for economic recovery as possible. It's not just recovery in three weeks. It's recovery to the end of the year and beyond in a possible second term. So I think Secretary Mnuchin is a very good negotiator and will be carrying the president's message."
I believe this is Trump playing to the audience. He realized he failed, and failed badly, with his "no negotiations" and his lowball pitch before he caught COVID-19. As a result of that, he's down in the polls. He wants to claw his way out of the hole by saying "but I asked for more, but THEY won't let me". Problem is, "they" is now Mitch McConnell and everyone else in his terrarium.

I could be wrong, but it looks like Trump is trying to throw the Senate GOP under the bus. In an election both were forecast to lose.

Meanwhile Pelosi needs to do...nothing. She has the highest offer on the table and it's already been voted through. I suppose she might try to shave off a tad and come in to meet Trump at, say, $2 trillion, putting the health and welfare (literal and figurative) of the American people before an obvious mortal blow to Trump's chances. But with McConnell now blocking that, it becomes a risk/reward game. Which is more important to Pelosi, the White House or the Senate?

No, and if you live in America right now you can see exactly how "fulfilling" his lifestyle is:

It's a country wherein all culture has been suspended save for trash on television and some sports, where the only food comes delivered from big chains, wherein the only thing people can do with their leisure time is sit inside their homes, getting upset and scared by what they see on TV and the internet. There's no room for socialization or friends because everyone is secretly out to get you, and the only relationships you construct are necessary and transactional.

In short: the only difference between Trump and a trailer trash "welfare queen" of the type conservatives like to demonise is that Trump comes with gold plating. Cheap style over substance.
"Multiculturalism has failed!" angrily types a person of European descent living in the Americas in a Germanic language using Roman characters on a device coded with Arabic numerals before leaving in a huff to go watch cartoons made in Japan.

    Our Ruling

Trump said that more than 100,000 people die from the flu and "in most populations, COVID-19 is far less lethal."

In the past decade, the average yearly death toll from the flu has been 35,900. About 50 years ago, 100,000 people died one year, but that was an anomaly.

Overall, the data show that COVID-19 is more deadly than the flu. By one estimate, it is 10 times more deadly.

Comparing death rates for age groups is more challenging, but the data shows that for everyone over 30, COVID-19 is deadlier than the flu.

    We rate this claim False.
    Our Ruling

President Trump said that the Commission on Presidential Debates wrote him an apology letter in 2016 over oscillating his microphone during the first general election debate against Hillary Clinton.

The organization released a one-sentence statement that noted that there was an issue with Trump’s audio that affected the sound level in the debate hall, but not his audio for Americans who watched the debate on TV.

The group was not forced to publicly apologize for the malfunction and we found no evidence that it sent Trump a letter doing so.

Trump’s claim is unsubstantiated. We rate it False.
    Our Ruling

While claiming there is widespread mail voting fraud, President Trump said ballots in Wisconsin "are being dumped in rivers" or creeks.

In context, viewers were left with the impression that ballots were disposed of en masse in some sort of waterway. There’s no evidence of that.

We base our ratings on what is known at the time of the claim. And on Sept. 29, as is the case now, Trump’s statement was wrong in both the literal claim (a "river") and the implication (that this is evidence of fraud). A small number of ballots were found with hundreds of pieces of other mail, and authorities have said nothing to indicate election manipulation motivated the incident.

The information released after the debate — that no Wisconsin ballots were found — muddles the situation given the apparent conflict with earlier information. But it doesn’t change this rating.

    We rate this claim False.
    Our Ruling

Pence said Biden and Harris support abortion "up to the moment of birth."

Biden and Harris have not said they support abortion "up to the moment of birth." They say they support the landmark Supreme Court case that legalized abortion and allowed states to regulate it after fetal viability. They also say they are against state laws that conflict with the case, and would work to codify the ruling into law.

One expert said that Democrats’ intent to codify Roe could preempt state laws restricting abortion, and that a related case has a health exception broad enough to allow abortions "up to the moment of birth." But several other experts said that supporting Roe or related cases is not the same as supporting abortion "up to the moment of birth." They said that generally, people who support Roe mean they support the existence of a right to have an abortion or to not criminalize it.

Pence’s claim creates a wrong impression of Biden’s and Harris’ statements and of the common interpretation of cases that affirmed abortion rights.

    We rate his claim False.
    Our Ruling

Pence said in a Facebook ad that, as vice president, Harris would "defund, dismantle, and dissolve police departments."

    That’s wrong.

Biden’s official campaign platform says his administration would not defund police departments. Harris’ press secretary said she does not support defunding the police. Her former presidential campaign platform did not mention it.

In media appearances, Harris has called for "reimagining" public safety across the country. But she hasn’t explicitly said she supports defunding police departments, and Harris has said she doesn’t want to get rid of law enforcement.

Pence’s ad is inaccurate. We rate it False.
    Our Ruling

"DEMS WANT TO SHUT YOUR CHURCHES DOWN, PERMANENTLY," Trump tweeted Oct. 7. "HOPE YOU SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING. VOTE NOW!"

Democrats are not calling for churches to be permanently closed.

Many states — including those governed by Republicans — have required residents to wear face coverings in public, banned large gatherings and ordered non-essential businesses to close. Some states exempted churches from their coronavirus restrictions.

Trump’s tweet is inaccurate and makes a ridiculous claim. We rate it Pants on Fire!
Trump lies all the time, about everything.
