@Benggaul 's numbers will still be the standard around here, but different sites measure slightly different ways.
By some, we lost over three thousand people to Trump's failure yesterday, breaking the old record by 20%.
Again different sites disagree on the details but they all agree the Trump Shitshow is killing far too many people. This is a national disgrace. The US is a global disgrace.
So with top GOP lawmakers saying defense sp--
Trump doubles down on Section 230 repeal after GOP pushback.
Nevermind. Sigh.
This is like the fourth reason he has brought up for vetoing the defense appropriations bill. All the same things apply to this situation as the last 3 times we talked about it. He cannot veto the defense appropriation bill, if he tries, it will get easily overridden in Congress.
The defense appropriations bill funds the entire DoD, because it is a workaround for a clause in the constitution that prevents us from funding a standing army permanently. So it doesn't go through normal process, it goes through this one, and it has been passed every year for the last 200 years or so. If they somehow failed to pass it, the DoD just straight out stops having money. No salaries, no lunch money, nothing. That isn't going to happen.
Hey, if that's the case and Trump just sits on it...we have no military budget for a few months until Biden comes into office and signs a copy/paste version of the bill. And Democrats can remind everyone that Republicans were the ones risked American global safety by refusing to fund our military because they don't care about the troops as anything more than political props.
I dont think McConnell cares, there are people being evicted right now and a 2nd stimulus bill has not made it past his desk.
I wouldn't go so far as to say my numbers are standard for here. JH is used most often in the articles brought up. They're just the standard *I* go by because I don't like waiting for JH to update and they don't redistribute corrections at all from what I can tell. But yes, I was prepared for JH to differ (I think they say the total was just under 200k new cases yesterday whereas worldometers had 203.7k) and as you say, by any standard, it's an absolute TRUMP SHITSHOW.
By the way, I read that Nebraska had somewhere around 2k new cases yesterday, so add that to the worldometers total from yesterday (that did not include Nebraska) and it was, indeed, a new national record.
It looks like Nebraska's COVID dashboard updates more quickly than worldometers does. It's showing 132,530 cases (vs. 130,194 on WM) and 1,128 deaths (vs. 1080 on WM). That puts yesterday at +2,336 cases and +48 deaths. I'm curious to see what time that dashboard gets updated.
Full US totals for yesterday then were +206,073 cases and +2881 deaths, which as you've pointed out are both records. Now the depressing question seems to be not whether or not we'll hit 3k, but whether it will be this week or next.

The 130 on WM will likely remain until the tick over tonight. It's not that Nebraska is updating before WM (it's really not, I check their dashboard before I make my post)...it's that since Nebraska updates so late WM doesn't bother adding it to the total until their next day change since it misses the deadline. They had 130 for Nebraska yesterday immediately after the change, for example.
That's not always the case, and until the past few weeks it wasn't the case for Nebraska at all. Nebraska just decided to change their reporting.
Sigh how can these people vote for a party that takes unemployment out of the stimulus but adds:
It would also make business meals and entertainment expenses 100% tax deductible and provide a liability shield for businesses against coronavirus-related lawsuits, a provision that Democrats have rejected.
But the plan does not include the $300 in supplemental unemployment benefits that were in an earlier GOP proposal and does not provide the additional aid to state and local governments that Democrats have demanded.
Oh and it included another 20 billion for farmers
No 1200, well unless you are a famer then its better
300 billion for small business aid, that based on findings of the first few packages, will all but go mostly to large businesses.
Buh Byeeeeeeeeeeee !!

So that one snippet of an email Ivanka is sharing to show how everything was fine?...not so much -
Reminding Rick Gates that the sweetheart deals the Trump folks got at their properties would be public record and face an audit that would show that they gave themselves a sweetheart deal while profiting off of others.
