The NYTimes reports that Barr is planning on fleeing the administration before he's fired for, well, being a scumbag bastard but stopping before going full dictator traitor.

Attorney General William P. Barr is considering stepping down before Trump’s term ends next month, according to three people familiar with this thinking. One said Mr. Barr could announce his departure before the end of the year.

It was not clear whether the attorney general’s deliberations were influenced by Mr. Trump’s refusal to concede his election loss or his fury over Mr. Barr’s acknowledgment last week that the Justice Department uncovered no widespread voting fraud. In the ensuing days, the president refused to say whether he still had confidence in his attorney general.

One of the people insisted that Mr. Barr had been weighing his departure since before last week and that Mr. Trump had not affected the attorney general’s thinking. Another said Mr. Barr had concluded that he had completed the work that he set out to accomplish at the Justice Department.

But the president’s public complaints about the election, including a baseless allegation earlier last week that federal law enforcement had rigged the election against him, are certain to cast a cloud over any early departure by Mr. Barr. By leaving early, Mr. Barr could avoid a confrontation with the president over his refusal to advance Mr. Trump’s efforts to rewrite the election results.
I don't see the point, to be honest. Trump will just lie, claim he fired Barr, label him a traitor and all the ceteras you can et.

I don't see the point either. He's already destroyed his already none stellar legacy over the past 2 years, incredibly damaged the credibility of the DoJ, maybe he's a masochist? That's the only conclusion I can come up with.

He sees the writing on the wall. He had to give Trump bad news, and now he is toast in Trump's eyes.

I tended to think that Barr was more dangerous than Trump due to his general competence. I'll feel a bit safer when he actually resigns. As compared to Guiliani, who has turned to be completely loyal and submissive to Trump, but completely and totally incompetent to the point of being a laughing stock / punching bag.

This OP ED article is about why Trump won't dominate 2024 the way everyone thinks he will. I'm not saying I agree with everything, but the points are worth discussion.

    Here's the quick version.
    1) Trump is a loser, and Trump supporters don't back losers. His ratings dropped 6% amongst Republicans in the month of November.
    2) He might be running against Nikki Haley, who is far more popular and also a woman.
    3) He might be in jail.
    4) He might die of obesity.

    Fair enough.

Meanwhile, there are people who think "There is no such thing as bad press". Based on his ALL CAPS TWEETS OF OUTRAGE JOBS! Trump does not appear to be one of them. That's a shame, brecause two more books, by WaPo and NYTimes reporters, will be detailing his last year in office, the way a police officer details a corpse with a chalk outline.

The focus of the books will, almost disappointingly expectedly, focus on Trump's complete failure to handle the lethal outbreak he personally caused, and also his attack on Democracy itself by pointing at every state's certification, every state's legislature, every court case and a literal majority of American voters, all of whom are against him, and say "No, every single one of them is wrong, I won" and people believe him for some reason.

Can you get high on gaslighting fumes? Is it addictive?

I'd almost rather see a play-by-play of Trump's 292 golf outings -- up-to-date as of the 26th 27th and 28th, yes he played all three days. At least hearing how he balances that obese ass to get a clean swing might give us something positive we could learn from.

Twitter gives Trump a stage to shout from and feed his ego. He isn't going to stop voluntarily.
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

In these trying times, it's good to know the White House has its priorities.

Melania Trump unveils new White House tennis court neither she nor any of her friends/family will ever play on.

I think we have a picture here

    Yep, that'll do.

will Trump's efforts at overturning or overthrowing Biden actually go anywhere or pretty much not at all

someone said he'll simply be dragged out but he's making a monumental effort to do *something* lately. I wonder if he has a plan in mind given that he is a cunning guy.

His plan is to keep milking his supporters out of money.

And Navarro violated the Hatch Act, too. At this point I think almost every member of Trump's team has violated the law at one point or another. Too bad the penalties are all decided by...the Executive branch so Trump can just ignore these violations of "LAW AND ORDER" by his own people.

I know you're posting in bad faith, but:

It's been a month and he's achieved nothing meaningful in his efforts to overturn the results. They're 1-48 in court if I'm not mistaken, if you include Powell's "Kraken" suit which just got dismissed, and none of the recounts made a difference.

There are still some ongoing "investigations" and "efforts" in GA and maybe MI that it looks like Conservatives are pinning their hopes on, but the thing is, Trump lost five swing states that he needed to win. Even if he did overturn results in one or two, it wouldn't be enough.

Certification is very nearly complete, and Biden already has enough electoral votes pledged to easily win on December 14.

Trump has one week of shenanigans left before the electors make it official.

Giuliani is currently hospitalized with COVID. It's unlikely the SCOTUS will intervene at the eleventh hour after steering clear for the last four weeks. Republican legislators have failed to put anything together in terms of halting certification or appointing faithless electors.

Short of turning this into an armed coup by trying to involve the military, he's already pretty much exhausted all his options and he's running out of time.

That all being said, what Trump has achieved in the last month is the solicitation of over $210m in donations to his "legal fund," of which only $8m has gone to paying for legal efforts and recounts. I'm not sure how much he'll net after paying down his campaign debt, but it's been a very successful grift so far.

God it's hard to believe it's been a whole month already. With how much Trump's fuckery is continuing to put The Election into the forefront you'd think it was still November.

We're at roughly one 9/11 per day in terms of covid deaths and rapidly approaching 300K total deaths, but hey, THERE'S A NEW TENNIS COURT AT OUR HOUSE!

Nope... bitch got less than 50 days... by the time we start passing Cyberpunk 2077 for the first time, it will be less than 40... yes, everything is now measured against Cyberpunk 2077... The 10th is now the first year of AC... After Cyberpunk year one, day one...

And neither of them play tennis, let alone run.

Did you know that today is National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day? IT IS! Trump announced it on Friday.

And I guess that's good enough because they haven't said anything on the actual anniversary that I can see, at least not so far. They did give a wrestler the Medal of Freedom and Melania has a new court to not play tennis on though, so they've got that goin for them.
