Man it's good seeing CA under 1K cases a day for a change.

I'm genuinely worried about the Delta variant though, from what I've read vaccines reduce the chance of infection but it's something like 6x less efficacious for Delta compared to other variants like the Alpha/Beta.

This shit is why I still wear my mask even if CA has "reopened", and will be continuing to do so for a while. Even if it doesn't afford me a ton of protection every little bit helps, and should I somehow get it and be asymptomatic I'd rather not share it with everyone I encounter.

If you are fully vaccinated you should be relatively safe, and even if you do happen to catch it your symptoms should be far more mild than if you were unvaccinated. I'm grateful to people like you who still try to be cautious, but you can rest a bit easier, at least.

In other related news, I'm finally going to be able to get my first jab tomorrow. The Netherlands has been really slow in their rollout.

I was going off of this -

Although they represent an essential marker, the levels of antibodies measured in a lab are not enough to determine the efficacy of a vaccine. In particular, they do not take into account a second immune response in the form of killer T cells – which attack already-infected cells and not the virus itself.

So it's not comprehensive since it didn't track the T cells apparently, but still gives me cause for concerns.

Senator Steve Daines has re-introduced a Constitutional Amendment to ban flag burning, which will go nowhere. However, he doesn't seem to understand or appreciate the irony of his commentary in his support of the Amendment -

Leaving the First Amendment aside, flag-burning, kneeling during the anthem, etc. are things conservatives bring up when they'd rather paint over the issue that leads to protests, by complaining that people are protesting in a way that actually gets attention. Which...protests are supposed to do.

Even when the vaccine is less effective at completely stopping the virus, it's nearly 100% effective at preventing serious illness. If everyone was vaccinated, then Delta might still progress around but cause very little damage. This will potentially devastate the non-vaccinated crowd, though. Maybe it's time they started thinking about their own safety.

I'm not going to hold my breath, though.

Unclear. The famous person, woman, man, camera, TV thing was Trump in 2020 bragging about acing a very hard test. We never saw those results, nor do we know if it's the 2018 test, or something else, or if Trump was just flat-out lying. Or, arguably the worst, he did actually take the test and fail horrifyingly, but doesn't know that. Plus, of course, the chance that he couldn't take "another one" because he never took the first one.

Normally I would agree. I think Jackson knows Trump is in such poor mental or physical health that he's about to become incapacitated or die.

Well for one, he's seen the medical reports but nobody else has. Trump slurs his words, goes on and on about conspiracy theories, brags about a test set to "small child" difficulty, snaps out violently when opposed by even his closest allies, and can't walk up or down a gentle decline. Jackson was Trump's doctor and has gone further. I think he's convinced Trump won't be able to support him, or anyone else, for much longer and is playing to what few conscious, sentient moments Trump has left to get whatever the endorsement equivalent is of his name in Trump's will.

For two, the GOP is nothing without Trump. If Trump dies, his fanbase will either fracture into shards, turn violent, or most likely vote for whatever they think is a direct successor. Could be child-rapist Gaetz, could be Nazi-sympathizer Greene, or it could be the man who kept Trump alive and who has Trump's full support: Jackson. I think Jackson knows this, and I think Jackson is rushing like hell to cash in on that support, before Trump starts drooling into his IV tube or has a fatal heart attack.

Governor has said he'll pardon them a few times. He still can pardon them, even though they pleaded down from felonies to misdemeanors. But for now they're guilty of the misdemeanors, have to give up their guns, but can both still practice law.

That's what I mean. There's nearly half the population that are stupid enough to believe Trump, Giuliani, Powell, et al. If they're stupid enough for that, then they're stupid enough not to be swayed away from using those lawyers. That couple are already on their way to being GoP stars.
