Which is still stupid, because it's been proven vaccinated people can still transmit the virus.

So what else happened today in Trump's world?

    1) Conservative and anti-vaxxer radio host Dick Farrel urges people to get the vaccine on his deathbed dying of COVID. Not much more to add, other than the usual "you had your chance". Near as I can tell, he didn't leave a widow or any fatherless children, at least.

    2) Trump, desperate to get the Republicans who backed his plea for infrastructure to ignore the plea for infrastructure, threatens to withhold endorsements for Republicans who vote for the current bill. Trump's word is still sovereign in the Party of Trump, but it's good to see sometimes he has to work for it.

    3) That former acting AG we've heard about testified, to the SJC. Supposedly, a lot of it was "Trump's lackeys kept asking me to throw out the election and I kept finding new ways to say how stupid, impossible, and fat that is".

    4) Trump's campaign was forced to repay millions to those donors who admitted they'd been duped to paying more/recurring when they didn't want to. Which means, just so we're clear, Trump got yet another interest-free loan with no consequences.

    5) This isn't up to Guess the Speaker! level:

Sadly, one of our colleagues, who is suing me for making people wear masks, which, of course, the District of Columbia says you have to do inside, but nonetheless, he sadly has been diagnosed
    -- Pelosi, on Norman

    6) This, however, is:

I’m going with the theory that Joe Biden wearing a tan suit is a deliberate attempt to troll Fox News.
That's Dan Rather. I believe he also said that Republicans didn't bite because, well, it didn't work the first time and they all looked like fools, but I can't find that one -- maybe he said it live, or maybe it was someone else.

    7) And my favorite of today: someone trolls Mike Lindell on video.

Don't let the libtards call you names. Don't let them call you an ethically dubious pillow pusher. Don't let them call you a marginally brain-addled corrupt goofball. You're doing great.

Don't let them push you around or call you names like the completely clueless crazy old man who believes everything he sees on the internet
The entire thing was caught on camera. I don't recommend watching it, because Lindell isn't wearing pants.

And, to remind folks, pretty much the only reason to get kids back in schools is to get parents back to work, which pretty much means we're in a "sure, a lot of people died, but at least we made marginal profits for shareholders by the end of the year" kind of situation.

They're prizing shareholder dividends over human health and safety.

In a roundabout sort of way perhaps, but business themselves by and large don't seem to be reluctant to adopt masking or vaccination policies. What's it to them if people in their stores have to wear masks or get vaccinated? It's really no skin off their bones.

Frankly I think this mask/vaccine aversion is much more politically motivated. The republicans thrive on the notion that, when they're in charge, everything is fine by merit of them being in charge. They exist on the platform perceived normalcy and the threat that them not being in power will make that "normalcy" go away. They don't design their policies to help people or deal with problems, they design them to line the pockets of themselves and their corporate buddies. They have neither the capacity nor desire to address the pandemic in any way other than pretending that it does not exist. And because they lack the capacity and desire, they have to suppress and deflect away any notion to the contrary that doing nothing is "handling it."

Moreover Democrats took the side of "be cautious, listen to the medical experts, wear masks and get vaccinated" which means the republicans had to adopt the opposite stance. And now telling people to do what the democrats were saying all along is political suicide, because it means the democrats were right. And if the democrats were right about a global pandemic, what else might they be right about?

Well, since the pandemic stuff is in this thread, I feel it is appropriate here. If not, I am sorry and please move it to the appropriate thread.

Jim Acosta says "We should name all new variants after the politicians that want to extend things further by banning the ability to do anything about them." This is NOT verbatim.

If they’re so obsessed with calling it the “China virus” to try and distract blame from trump, I see no reason why they can’t be hit with “the desantis variant.” Turnabouts fair play, and all that.

At least you can say that they're consistent. Because this is what they've been doing since dividends were invented. The pandemic is just making it that much clearer to everyone paying the slightest bit of attention.

You could even argue that this is what capitalism DEMANDS that they do. They'd be failing the capitalist gods if they didn't do this.

Except there are a lot of companies making masks and even vaccines mandatory - it's hard to make money if your customers are dead. It's the politicians driving this insanity, not business.

Makes sense. Lots of things are named not after the person who discovered/created them, but rather after the person who popularized them. With regard to the delta variant, I can't think of anyone who has contributed more to its prevalence than DeSantis.

No report for Saturday since, as usual these days, less than half the country reported. There ARE numbers for Florida, and they're bad: 23,903, another new record. And nearly a hundred deaths. Their 7-day average is now over 19k...also a new record. Tomorrow there likely won't be any numbers out of there, but we can assume it's not suddenly going to drop to zero. Fucked Florida.

And for some non-COVID related news we're reminded that Trump hired "the best people":

Jeffrey Clark, Trump-appointed DOJ official, claimed Chinese thermostats changed votes in 2020 election, reports say

    *facepalm*

It also loudly sends the message to kids that We don't care about you, and we don't care if you learn in schools, we just want to get you out of your parent's hair so they can do important stuff.

We’ve already done that by not passing any kind of gun control legislation.

Angry and sad. Just got the news this morning that my uncle was in the ICU yesterday with COVID, today he’s dead. I wasn’t going to be that upset about it, because I assumed it was his own doing; He’s was a bit of an asshole and the kind of person who would have likely been against the vaccine. Turns out it was his own daughter pushing the stupid fucking conspiracy theories and shit to her family, telling them not to get vaccinated because the vaccine is untested and will kill them. It makes it so much worse. I haven’t seen my uncle in many many years, since we moved, but much of my childhood, especially around the holidays, was spent with them. He was the person who took me shooting, to learn how to shoot with a rifle incase I wanted to go hunting with him when I got older. He was always super generous to us and family in general. He was certainly an ass to other people, but family was very important to him. So it really hurts.

If Trump gets elected again in a few years. what will you people do? I don't think this has been asked because people assume it's a fantasy, but it can happen/
