The WV governor is not a classic Republican. He was all-in Trump. I'm glad he's angry, but he allowed this to happen. I'm glad it reflects badly on him. And he and I both know it's too late to change things. That death spike will keep going up 2 weeks after cases reverse, and even if literally every single person in WV vaccinated today there would be an increase in cases while those kicked in.

Fatigues aren't a prerequisite for hunting, as the thousands upon thousands of successful kills year after year to hunters wearing bright-orange safety vests can attest. That is also largely cosplay.

Fatigues are largely designed for fooling human eyes. If you want to be stealthy while hunting animals you're paying more attention to sound, scent and movement.

Florida death backlog is catching up. They broke 50k on Thursday. Then they broke 51k on Friday.

That's not exactly apples-to-apples. The 50k comes from the data submitted to the CDC, while the 51k comes from the Florida DoH weekly report. The weekly report is generally a bit ahead of the CDC data. Worldometers will probably catch up to the weekly report today, then will catch back up with the CDC data once Florida sends in their Monday backlog push, surpassing the weekly report totals. This has happened for the last several weeks, usually on Friday, but sometimes on Saturday, which you can see in the medium-sized backlog increases on those days.



The data on the weekly report doesn't indicate when those deaths occurred, so worldometers just typically spreads them out over the previous week or so, until the Monday CDC catch-up allows them to more accurately attribute those deaths to the "proper" day.

Oh absolutely, but to be fair, they're not the only ones. Back in May I linked an article about a study saying actual COVID deaths in the US probably exceeded 900k. Back in May. I'm sure we've blown past 1 million by now.

I'm not sure the IMHE methodology was entirely sound. They're local peeps, but they've had some definite misses during this pandemic. Questions were raised about this estimate, for sure.

I've always mentally assumed that we were about 30-50% over the listed total; closer to the 30% the longer this thing goes, due to the lack of testing and adequate accounting back for the first half year or more. That would put us right around 1 million deaths now, however, so yay milestones?
