It’s almost time for Trump to speak here in Georgia and there’s probably no more than 5,000 people here, the smallest Trump rally I’ve ever covered here. Way less than the Perry rally in 2021 (closer to 10k) and nowhere close to 2020’s 20-30k+

so the C-SPAN feed isn't showing the crowd at all. My bad. But still small, apparently.

Fortenberry was found guilty on three charges, two for lying to the FBI and one for having a name that sounds like a Gatorade flavor. Each carries a sentence of up to five years. It should be noted that Fortenberry's crack legal defense team...are already planning an appeal which should coincide nicely with his re-election campaign.

The resignation marks the end of Fortenberry's nearly two decades in Congress, and comes after both party leaders in the House called on him to step down.

“This appeal starts immediately,” Fortenberry told reporters after the verdict on Thursday, citing “concerns about the fairness of the process.”

Fortenberry told his House colleagues in a letter that his resignation is effective March 31.

"Due to the difficulties of my current circumstances, I can no longer effectively serve," he wrote.

The letter includes a poem from Mother Teresa, which reads in part, "People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway."
