Republicans are at it again. This time a North Carolina party official demanded access to voting equipment - which nobody was allowed - while threatening to have the county election director fired or her pay cut if she didn't.

He claimed that there was a "chip" in the machines that flipped Trump votes, because I guess more than 1.5 years post-election some Republicans just can't get over the fact that their candidate lost.

He was asking for her to break the law, by the way. Granting him access would have been illegal.

Can we just start tossing these fashies in prison and treating Republican party officials as a de-facto risk to our democracy and the security of our elections, already?

When a claim like this is made with no evidence of any kind, and that claim and nothing else is used to justify an intrusive action (say, opening up and likely breaking voting machines) it should also be used the other way around. I think Senter has evidence in his house about the Russians he's been working with to overthrow the US government. I think we should be allowed to toss his house, comb his bank records, and read his phone records/texts/emails to find it. And I think he should be paid half if he refuses.

He'd been talking it up for over a year. Now, he can't even remember the name. Worse, he can't remember the name when it's written in giant-ass letters and in front of him on the telepromptor.

There is no more damaging press Trump could have given his own social media platform, then not remembering what it was. While advertising it. There were Republican debates tonight for the governor's race in Georgia. Kemp and Perdue Throwdown 2022, baby!

Just impressive the hold Trump still has on the party. This debate audience was primarily just one man, for Perdue.

He went on to blame rising gas prices, inflation, illegal immigration and “the brink of war” on Kemp because the governor allowed “radical Democrats to steal our election.”

Granted those of us with brains are still scratching our heads because Georgia alone wasn't enough to flip the results (Biden still having 290 votes without Georgia), but it doesn't seem like math is a strong suit for this crows. Or really using their brains at all.

Kemp repeated three times that he wants to make sure “Stacey Abrams is never your governor or your next president” and that he’s the only candidate to have already beaten her, referring to his 2018 victory.

Kemp, on the other hand seems to feel pretty good about his position so far and is actually looking towards the actual election with the debate.

Dear defendants: this is how you get no-knock raided.

From the sounds of things, NY is asking for $10,000 a day of refusal, plus additional costs caused by the delay. I believe this is a warning shot. If Trump refuses to turn over the records that any competent CEO would have, and also refuses to pay those contempt charges (if applied), then these two factors are themselves evidence for the case itself.

I'll let @cubby call the shots, but I believe if Trump refuses to comply with the legally and Constitutional subpoena, one or more of three things will happen.

One, his various homes get raided. Anything in NYState is fair game.

Two, the penalties rise. After a demonstrated time period of noncompliance, $10,000 a day gets an extra zero or Trump has to testify why he's not complying...or just flat-out jailed. These might be civil charges, but refusing to comply with a legal warrant/subpoena is still a bad idea.

Three, a directed verdict. In an Alex Jones kind of way, if NYState can provide compelling evidence and Trump's only defense is "WITCH HUNT!" then the judge might simply shrug and say "well I'm siding with the side taking this seriously" and just rule in the AG's favor. This would, of course, be crippling for Trump. By Trump's own admission, he's been under audit since 2001. Just randomly making up numbers here to get an idea of context, but if Trump undervalued his properties by $100 million to avoid paying taxes each year, NYState could very realistically claim they're due 10% of that gap, or $220 million. And I'm fairly sure that's lowballing it.

If I claim "Your Honor, I am innocent but all the evidence is somewhere else and I refuse to show it to the court" I think the judge has not just the right, but the requirement, to say "well if you don't provide it I can't count it and we have to assume it doesn't exist".
