Most people omit the key factoid. That Paul Manafort had to trick Trump into meeting Pence. By faking a plane problem so Trump would be stuck in Indianapolis long enough to bump into Pence.

Trump had wanted Christie or Gingrich .....

Well, the Newt did offer to build a moonbase.

It’s not because it’s fun. God knows it’s not because it’s easy. It’s not even because it works because it hardly ever does.. I DO WHAT I DO BECAUSE IT’S RIGHT! Because it’s decent! And above all, it’s kind! It’s just that.. Just kind."

...who's saying that? This one's new to me, and I'm usually up-to-date on the ravings of mad cultists.

Trump had wanted Christie or Gingrich .....
    Christie is gone.

    Gingrich...still an option.

    1) He says Trump shouldn't debate, because it would give the other candidates free publicity. No, Gingrich doesn't believe that, he knows full well the debates reach an audience regardless.

    2) He's still on FOX News making election fraud claims.

I think it’s probably almost impossible under current law to ensure an accurate election. And I think the only Republican strategy in the long run is to pick issues and win by margins so big that they can’t steal it. If you have a very close election, Democrats have a passion for stealing them.
    3) He flat-out said he's the only one in the Republican Party who feels good about the party and their ability to fight Biden.

    4) And he says Trump has a better and better chance of winning every time another candidate announces.

+3 CNN points for that, by the way.

So, yeah, he's an option. Or at least, he thinks he is. He adds some to the ticket, being more of a hybrid than a pure cultist, but not too much -- he is the only major GOP figure with exactly the same number of divorces as Trump, and if he could get elected for anything important, he would have run years ago.

I'm going to disagree with you on the voter suppression part. They've always been fans of that, the Voting Rights Act was literally enacted to try and cut down the amount of voter suppression that was going on at the time, and ever since it was enacted they've been picking it apart and defanging it at every opportunity. Even in areas where they have a near guaranteed win, they engage in voter suppression just to make absolutely certain there is no opportunity for accountability at any level.

We have certainly seen the boundaries pushed in legal shenanigans because of Trump. I will fully admit I have certainly learned things in the legal arena. And don't be surprised when we see more.

Very common, especially when dealing with complicated crimes or situations. Prosecutors will meet with defense attorneys and essentially lay out their case against the soon-to-be or already defendant. Usually it's after indictment but before formal trial process begins (essentially during "discovery" - which is a broad area in criminal cases, similar but also different than civil ones).

This is where the Prosecutors will sometimes offer a plea deal, or the defense will ask for one, etc. Trials are tough on both sides and can be difficult to win out, so finding a deal saves everyone time/effort/money/prison.

Not a huge surprise if true, but early reports are claiming it's the Espionage Act.

You have homework for tonight, everyone.

I think what Donald Trump has illuminated more than anything is how the law treats those with money and power versus us common peons. He is the perfect public illustration of the discrepancy for everyone to see.

And also a shining example of how a large portion of the American populace somehow equates money with success. No matter how shitty a human being, the fact that he has (had?) money somehow makes him someone to worship.

One of Trump’s key defenses — that he declassified the documents — is irrelevant under the Espionage Act.
So curious, since its about Trump.
Is this the "Documents are declassified when I utter the words" all over for the 41th time

Not quite yet. Trump saying it definitely does not make it true.

Slow your roll and wait for DoJ confirmation, then we can sit down with our popcorn to watch the Great Triggering, 2023 Edition.
