Just more confirmation this dude was a loner and mostly invisible member of society and he was out on a mission to make himself known.

Just looks like it was an attack of opportunity since Trump was going to be at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
He also did research on School Shooter Ethan Crumbley.
Maybe we should do something about this, as a country. Like implement better checks for gun ownership. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Man, every few days just how spectacularly the USSS fucked up increases. The gunman who tried to kill Donald Trump was able to fly a drone and get aerial footage of the western Pennsylvania fairgrounds shortly before the former president was set to speak there, law-enforcement officials briefed on the matter said, further underscoring the stunning security lapses ahead of Trump’s near assassination.
Thomas Matthew Crooks flew the drone on a programmed flight path earlier in the day on July 13 to scour the Butler Farm Show grounds ahead of Trump’s ill-fated rally, the officials said. The predetermined path, the officials added, suggests Crooks flew the drone more than once as he researched and scoped out the event site.

Ok, I love how they add pornography in that. Outside of some outliers, I can probably bet my next couple of years wages that every 20 year old has looked up porn in some form.

Funny thing is, the far right is a HUGE consumer of porn. They would literally be jailing their own supporters. Hell, a lot of evangelicals look up porn daily.

I am going to post this here even though it is a moot point but LegalEagle put out a video on the attempted assassination. The video itself is just standard stuff for them but they did show something interesting. Someone shot a video of the shooter setting up on the roof right before he tried to shoot Trump and he put it in his video.
At 6:58 to 7:06, you can see him setting up.

In all seriousness, the 2nd Amendment is a problem. In theory (cops violate this all the time without consequence in practice, but maybe the SS have a better handle on basic ethics and the law), someone being armed isn't a threat. Someone lying on a roof with a weapon isn't a threat. They haven't given justification for use of lethal force. You could send agents over to try and grab him and see what's up, but counter-sniping? No. That'd be legally considered murder. So you've got to wait for him to actually set up the rifle to take the shots, and aim at a target. Visibility was probably shit given that he was so low, so it may not have been obvious when that was the case, and he may have been able to get those few shots off as a result.
But the SS can't just gank people for being on a roof with a weapon. What if it's a maintenance guy checking for a roof leak and also enjoying his open-carry privileges? The 2nd Amendment's the root of the problem.
The biggest problem is that the police did try and check and get on the roof but the officer that went to check couldn't get on the roof like the guy did and was hanging onto the ledge. He dropped when the shooter pointed his gun at him. Or so I have read. The moment he pointed a gun at someone else, it becomes an active threat. As pointing a firearm at someone else is considered assault with a deadly weapon and someone can use lethal force against the person pointing the gun.
Not siding with the officers or anyone else but I am just going along with reports that I have read.
I won't bother posting any fact checks of Trump's speech. Everyone here knows he lies all the time about everything, even his supporters.
So I'll post this instead.
And yes, of course, Trump did not do what he said he would. I don't know why Wallace was surprised. The LATimes sure wasn't.CNN anchor Chris Wallace said Trump “couldn’t keep up the act” in his speech accepting the GOP nomination at the 2024 Republican National Convention late Thursday.
“It seemed as if he couldn’t keep up the act,” Wallace said on CNN in a clip highlighted by Mediaite. “And so, we started hearing about ‘crazy Nancy Pelosi’ and cheating on elections and talking about Biden.”
“Frankly, it was a long speech, it was a rambling speech, it was a speech by an older man, and I couldn’t help but think that the people that are gonna be happiest tonight are not the people at Trump headquarters, but the people — the Democrats, maybe at Biden headquarters, maybe at the headquarters of other people who think they’re gonna replace Joe Biden.”
Trump formally accepted his party’s presidential nomination with an address that lasted more than an hour and a half, the longest acceptance speech by a major party candidate.
Trump and his advisers said earlier this week that he had scrapped his original convention speech draft in the wake of the assassination attempt against him last weekend for something more restrained.
However, during the convention speech, Trump went after former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and President Biden.
“Part of the, I have to say for me, disappointment, in this speech, is because the Trump campaign had talked so much about how we were gonna see a softer, more reflective Donald Trump,” Wallace said on CNN.
“And, he had a line early on, he said, ‘I’m going to be president for all Americans, because there’s no victory in winning for half of Americans,’ and I thought, ‘Well, we’re off to the races here, and this is really gonna be a different Donald Trump.’ As you say, he then went in, in very reflective, somber, un-Trumplike detail … talking about how God saved him, saved his life and seemed genuinely reflective.”
Trump’s speech was a dud. What does that mean for his campaign?
They were hardly the harshest critic.
acceptance speech' at the RNC devolved into boring TV

From a media perspective, it was a tale of two Trump speeches — and long enough for both
The ‘new’ Donald Trump soothed and silenced the nation for 28 minutes last night. Then the old Trump returned and bellowed, barked and bored America for 64 minutes more
Trump reverted to his greatest hits of grievances in his unhinged mess of a Republican convention speech.
Funny story: FOX News didn't say the speech was bad, but they quoted people who said it.
So Trump already broke a campaign promise not even 30 minutes into being one party's nominee. That might be a record.
Speaking of lying, you didn't really think I'd skip the fact-checks, did you?
As per usual here, expect the Trump supporters to ignore that their candidate is unable to stay on message, ignore that he's intentionally divisive, and ignore that he does nothing but lie.
So naturally I'll call them out. @tehdang and @YUPPIE in particular, who have proven they view things Trump says positively and have been very active recently. Both of you, Trump said he would end the electric vehicle mandate on day one. Naturally, he was applauded for that.
Which electric vehicle mandate was he talking about? Be specific. A link would be ideal. Trump said it on the national stage, how hard could it be to find? I mean, you'd have to be an absolute coward to not even look, right?
Dang imagine what the headlines around Trump's unhinged rantings and the lukewarm RNC reception would look like and how bad that would look for Trump's campaign if people weren't complaining so loudly about how Biden looked old a few weeks ago.
Democrats need to get out of their own damn way.
