Donald Trump’s lawyers are on a mission to wipe out his biggest financial liability — a nearly half-billion dollar fraud verdict that’s soaring by about $100,000 every day.

Lawyers for the Republican presidential nominee will ask a New York appeals court Thursday to throw out the $454 million verdict handed down in February. They argue the claims were filed too late and that the “massive” penalty violates constitutional guarantees against excessive punishments.

A decision by the Manhattan appellate court isn’t expected before the Nov. 5 election and could take several months. If Trump loses, he can take the case to New York’s highest court and, if necessary, to the US Supreme Court— though doing so could drag out a final decision until 2026.

I dunno, I like a coke now and then but its always a joke to me that folks seemingly well aware of their weight and with no interest to change, just absolutely POUND diet colas. I had a buddy who literally brought a 12-pack to D&D, not to share no no, he drank the whole damn thing by the end of session (6-8 hours). He also often brought other drinks to share, but it took the whole group to empty a 12 pack of anything.

My fiance's fat brother chugged Diet Mt Dew like it was water. It just seems to be a recurring theme.

To reply, Coke Zero and other diet drinks are fine if you also remember they do trick the brain into thinking it got carbs when it didn't. As long as you don't follow up with actively binging on other sugary stuff, you won't have any issues other with weight gain.

EDIT: Let me add to this. Fake sugars, like in Diet Coke and the like, still cause an insulin response. Which can cause fat gain if it is too high.

The mandatory freeze when there was a large selloff gave the large investors, especially fatass Trump, time to calm emotions and each assure the others they weren't the ones selling. At least one lied. But we are still talking about a product nobody uses that does nothing but lose money. The price is stabilized, not rising. It's back to the low value just before Trump was able to sell, people assumed he would, that fear is no longer jump-scare panic but mood-setting dread.

The company is still worthless.

In all seriousness, slapping a large fine on a corporation that did nothing but lie and cheat for decades to profit from lying and cheating for decades is not an excessive penalty. If Trump wants to say "you can't charge me $500 million because I don't have that" under oath, he's more than welcome to do so.

For the record, I think we will see a verdict soon, and by "verdict" I mean "the judge knows Trump will appeal so he'll make it someone else's problem".

When it comes to appeals, you generally get a handful of appeals per judgement. You get to appeal to the appellate court, usually a superior court above that and then the US Supreme Court. However, that is per judgement so if someone has 10 things that are judged against them, they can actively appeal all 10 of them separately.

The reason why regular people don't appeal much is because it costs a LOT of money to do so. Remember, you are the one that is bringing charges against the state instead of the state bringing charges against you in the sense that you are the one stating that the case was wrongly decided.

It is less about the diet drinks and the fact that they still craved sugar immensely and still over-consumed on it somehow. However, one thing is that fake sugars will still spike insulin responses which causes fat storage. Drinking a can or 2 of diet drink won't cause much of anything, drinking a 12 pack is a whole different thing.
