“Terrible things are happening outside. Poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart. Men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.”

R.I.P. Democracy
"The difference between stupidity
and genius is that genius has its limits."
--Alexandre Dumas-fils
Oh no, instead he bought himself a shadow presidency.
Twitter for Must is a loss leader, whatever price he paid for this, he clawed back more than triple in his other assets. And now you have Disney and the like crawling back to kiss the ring with restarting advertisement there and that is after he publicly told Disney CEO to go fuck himself literally, not that he really cares.
Buying Twitter was probably the smartest move Musk did so far.
Well, that whole thing about making everyone healthy didn't last long, did it?
Please, someone try to explain this one away for me.
I'm not remotely convinced that Leon buying Twitter and turning into an undeclared campaign arm of the Republican party is as meaningful as you appear to think it is.
And that "return of Disney et all" is not so momentous or significant as your vague mention of their return makes it seem.
There was nothing stopping Musk from buying Twitter, using it to influence people, and making it successful. If Musk hadn't turned Twitter into such a cesspool it would have more users and would be giving him even more influence.
This wasn't some genius move on his part. He fucked it up. If you genuinely want Musk to do to the US government what he did to Twitter then the only logical conclusion is that you want the US to fail.
He should do this for alternative media in general. The universe of podcasts and youtube shows that cover news and current events captures maybe a third of all Americans.
It is Trump after all. He wasn't elected by Americans watching TV and reading articles about why Trump just lost hundreds of thousands of Puerto Rican voters in Pennsylvania due to a joke a comedian told at a rally. The flip side to all this is that "new media" outlets with employees in the press room won't honestly have the label of rebel, upstart media criticizing mainstream sources from without.
It's the obvious choice, which is naturally the reason that Trump might not make it.
"I wish it need not have happened in my time." "So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."
'Starting to fail': Trump said to have already 'planted seeds of his own political demise'
Trump, who is going to be entering his second term as a "lame duck" President, has been under fire for his nominations to important posts, including former lawmaker Matt Gaetz, who would be Attorney General.
Those nominations could be his undoing, according to New York Times columnist David French, an ex-writer for the conservative National Review.
French, who previously shared signs of what he thought could be the end of the MAGA movement, said Trump's nominations are a threat to the former and incoming president.
"That was quick. Donald Trump is planting the seeds of his own political demise," French wrote Sunday in an article titled, "Donald Trump Is Already Starting to Fail."
"The corrupt, incompetent and extremist men and women he’s appointing to many of the most critical posts in his cabinet are direct threats to the well-being of the country, but they’re also political threats to Trump and to his populist allies," he said.
According to French, Trump's problem is that he has purged everyone around him who held him back from his worst political instincts. In doing so, Trump has now been free to go more extreme than ever, including by nominating unserious individuals for important positions.
Those nominees, the columnist wrote, have ideas that are incompatible with the needs of everyday citizens.
"But here is his fundamental problem: The desires of his heart and the grievances of his base are ultimately incompatible with the demands of the majority, and the more he pursues his own priorities, the more he’ll revive his opposition. He’ll end his political career as an unpopular politician who ushered in a Democratic majority yet again," French wrote on Sunday. "The reason goes deeper than ideology (many of his nominees are extremists) or scandal (Kennedy, Hegseth, and Matt Gaetz, each have their own histories of alleged sexual misconduct, for example). Ultimately, it goes to competence: Can you do the job we ultimately hired you to do?
A bit optimistic to me...
“But this isn’t the end. I promise you, this is not the end, and we have to regroup and we have to continue to fight and continue to work day in and day out to create the better society for our children, for this world, for this country, that we know is possible.” ~~Jon Stewart
Very optimistic. No doubt Trump will do MASSIVE damage without the guardrails the actual qualified people gave him. The fact is he is doing what Putin did and appointing based on loyalty and not merit and they will do what he says with the Supreme Court and both houses largely backing him.
About the only way it would spell his demise is if he risks them going down with him. The nation could burn and then the rubble left could burn more and they will protect him until it hits their doorsteps.

I've been mulling over over a post-presidency plan in 2028, and wondering who would take up the mantle of the cult.
I believe it was Augustus that granted a bunch of his supporters "the dignity of a former consul" or something along those lines to be able to make them provincial governors, which gave me the horrible thought of Trump granting Musk something similar for U.S. citizenship and the SCOTUS just kinda letting slide, allowing Musk to run for president.
Hmm. Hopefully not.
If Trump is dead, then it is all up for grabs but there is no such thing as a vice cult leader as has been said countless times. If he lives, he won't allow anyone else. He will likely try to suspend elections if he can or claim he can run a 3rd time or try and set it up for one of his kids to inherit the throne. He will actively try and torpedo anyone that isn't his kids or hasn't already sworn undying fealty to him and just acting as his puppet.
But if he gone, then I can see them TRYING to get him up there, but unless they already have the cult lapping at their feet, they are unlikely to get off the ground.

The scariest thing is how many pieces have lined up to allow this scenario to be possible. If Bush Jr had said "I think we'll try it a third time!" we'd all have thought he was joking, but with Rump we know he's at least half serious. At the time Congress, SCOTUS and the people wouldn't have allowed a third term for the presidency to happen. But now with these boot lickers in the right positions and the stupidity of this nation on full display we're looking at a real chance of the Orange Turd making a run for it.
And what scares me the most is what we'd have to do to ensure that this doesn't happen.
Honestly, I don't see him lasting 4 years, even if he does live that long, his mind was already mush before his first term and just gone down hill from there. My worries is about who will try and replace him and their attempts to give us Russian style elections while he is in in their attempts to create their own caliphate and lock in their views against the will of the public. Their economic stuff they can totally do, their social stuff though, I mainly see as becoming a bunch of ignored and unenforced laws relatively quickly.

I bet with a slush fund back into his pocket too....Sounds very much what happened in Russia when Putin took over!

No idea on those but I'm sure that it will be figured out or there will be "something" in the way. I've just waiting on the tariffs to come in and prices to go up.
Caesar. And if you take a closer look at iulius "i totally dont wanna be a king, serious guys, its not a throne just a special chair!" caesar and his decades long pushing against republican guardrails to ultimatley shatter them and usher in an age of authoritarian leaders, there are way too many similarities for my taste.

Two ways. Gradually, then suddenly.”
