I think much of that will matter if Johnson is the speaker or not. If Trump doesn’t like it, it won’t get a vote most likely.

Wondering if Trumps “secret” with Johnson is that Johnson was going to try and force a recess so they could force the senate to follow to get his appointments at this point.

I'm still fairly certain there is no "secret" and it's something Donald just made up on the spot and Johnson ran with because it gets people distracted thinking about it. Recess appointments aren't even a secret, that's been something Donald has openly discussed (and has nothing to do with Johnson proper since the House is irrelevant in those confirmations).

Evidently there is a way the house can use to attempt to force a senate into recess against its wishes.

Whether it would work or not it’s up for debate but given the people involved, I wouldn’t hold me breath on them doing the right thing.

Gosh they want centralized power so fucking badly they're willing to even force their own membership on recess bypass the Constitutional "advise and consent of the Senate" requirement.

I'd normally be skeptical they have the competency to actually pull this off, and I am skeptical that they really do, but we know the SCOTUS is in Republicans back-pocket so any lower courts putting a stop to it will be overruled by Roberts band of ethically compromised losers.

Exactly, which is why I wondered if that was his secret with Johnson but, from my understanding, it would require a majority vote in congress to even start the recess they would be attempting to force this.

But so long as they can get the majority threshold, they can attempt to force the senate to close shop and the current scotus might go along with it.

Trump picks Pam Bondi for AG after Matt Gaetz withdraws

Quid pro quo to quid pro quo

Trump donated $25k and she ruled in favor of Trump University, dismissing the case. Now Trump is returning the favor I guess. I sort of wish it was Eileen Cannon at this point. why not.

Well you can't get the job without some conflict of interest. It's a requirement.

Well, tbf she was a Florida Attorney General once...so, she has that going for her.

Umm..Ron DeSantis slams the door on Matt Gaetz’s hopes of being a senator
According to a new report in the conservative National Review by journalist Audrey Fahlberg. She cited "a source familiar with the governor’s thinking" was certain that the former congressman from Florida's 1st Congressional District was not on DeSantis' shortlist of candidates for the seat to be vacated by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) in the event he's confirmed as the next secretary of state.

"He won’t appoint Matt," Fahlberg's source said.

Whoever ends up filling that seat would serve until 2026. At that point, a special election would be called to determine who would serve in the seat throughout the remainder of Rubio's term, which runs through January of 2029. Political strategist and columnist Cheri Jacobus — a former RNC communications staffer, suggested that Trump may have intended to put Rubio at the State Department in order to "open the seat for his daughter-in-law."

"I think that may be the main reason Trump picked Rubio," Jacobus wrote on Bluesky last week.

Gaetz announced Thursday he would not remain attorney general-designate despite President-elect Donald Trump nominating him just eight days ago. CNBC's Carl Quintanilla posted to the social media platform Bluesky that Gaetz now holds the new record for the shortest time between being nominated and being withdrawn from consideration.
“But this isn’t the end. I promise you, this is not the end, and we have to regroup and we have to continue to fight and continue to work day in and day out to create the better society for our children, for this world, for this country, that we know is possible.” ~~Jon Stewart

So Gaetz is finally gone from Congress in the weirdest way possible.

Look at Trump, unintentionally keeping a campaign promise: there's nothing swampier than a Florida pedophile.

Sorta. I think we can all imagine that he was always going to resign rather than allow the ethics report to go out, he was just the trial balloon for just how much insane, unserious, harmful bullshit Senate Republicans might be willing to tolerate IMO.

so dems should take tips from what the conservatives are doing in UK. they are attacking labor for 2.1% inflation.. dems should attack trump every month there isnt deflation, and if theres deflation theres a recession meaning we also win. but dems are weak and like losing so they will go along with the " oh 2% is a good target" instead of just lying and dooming like republicans did for 4 years

Seeing some reports Gaetz may get his seat back because he was re-elected to the 119th Congress, and he had resigned from the 118th. So he'd be back in come January. Anyone know if there's any truth that?

That would make sense, actually. Though it begs the question: Does the ethics report come back into play in that case, or does it get deleted because it's a new House and we must pretend it's completely different from the old House?

Either way Democrats need to make sure the report is released, at least if Marj isn't going to put pressure on the committee to release all investigations. Which she won't, and they won't.

Completely agree. Any reports into illegal activities by any politician, regardless of party, should be made available to the public. Un-redacted, except for maybe names of victims.

I think you are setting the bar way too high expect democrats to lay down and roll over like good little dogs trying to work with Trump and be "bipartisan". The current leadership (Jeffreys, Schummer) would require a miracle to grow a spine to form a resistance. Something like 50ish democrats already voted with republicans on a bill that allow Trump to remove non profit status from any organization. The only time they show resistance is when progressives are involved since they threaten their corporate masters.
