Huge, massive, enormous things? No, not on the scale of the interstate highway system, not in a while. The yardstick now is, "Got an infrastructure bill passed finally doing some serious reinvestment in aging US infrastructure."

Republicans simply don't want to really pass any legislation unless it's a tax cut, and oppose just about anything else Democrats propose because "Democrats proposed it" so we don't get things like campaign finance reform etc.
I keep saying that if the Democrats passed a bill that says "All people who want a firearm, is allowed to have one. No strings attached.", the same people screaming at the top of their lungs about "My guns!!!" would literally vote this down because it is a Democrat trying to pass it.

Trump is about as "fiscally conservative" as a gold-digger spouse is with a No-Limit Credit card in their possession. The man literally calls himself "The King Of Debt".

“I’m the king of debt. I’m great with debt. Nobody knows debt better than me,” Trump told Norah O’Donnell in an interview that aired on “CBS This Morning.” “I’ve made a fortune by using debt, and if things don’t work out I renegotiate the debt. I mean, that’s a smart thing, not a stupid thing.”

The one big investment republicans touted as the success of their policies, the led factory was an spectacular failure. There is something to be said about democrats struggling in the execution of their projects, Republicans arent even able to tout that.

This reads like a reeeaaally poor attempt at gloating.

Doesn't really gel with your "I'm on neither side" deal. But then, almost none of your posting does, does it? Weird.

'This is not what he ran on!' Trump blasted for veering wildly away from campaign promises

Donald Trump assured voters during his campaign that he would lower prices on groceries and other items — but a former congressman called him out for already abandoning that promise.

Tech tycoons Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos have donated $1 million each to Trump's inauguration despite his past attacks on them, and former Democratic lawmaker Max Rose said the president-elect is already siding with the rich and walking away from the policies he promised to voters.

"This is not what Donald Trump ran on," Rose said. "Donald Trump ran and won this presidential election largely by co-opting traditional Democratic talking points in and around fighting an elitist class that was both culturally estranged from working people and working against the economic interests of working people. He did not run on this notion that he was going to parade billionaires down to Mar-a-Lago in what is ultimately an escalator of transactional deals.

"So this speaks to potentially what the Trump administration will actually look like, which is traditional Republican politics of being there for the top 1 percent. That's not only a bad set of policies and agendas for working people in the United States of America, but it's also going to be very poor politics."

"This is not what Donald Trump ran on," Rose said. "Where were the commercials that said that he is going to surround himself by billionaires at Mar-a-Lago who give me give him a million bucks? Where were the commercials that said he's going to listen to donors and then talk about annexing the Panama Canal because someone's upset about their higher toll rates, that they're paying. This is not what he spoke about, but it is how he is governing."

Is it terrible to look forward to see how a Cat 6 hurricane is handled next year?
“But this isn’t the end. I promise you, this is not the end, and we have to regroup and we have to continue to fight and continue to work day in and day out to create the better society for our children, for this world, for this country, that we know is possible.” ~~Jon Stewart

Literally everyone knew this. Some people are just pretending otherwise. Anyone who looked at Trump's life, including his first WH term, and said "this person who wanted to take away health care for the poor and lower taxes for only the rich is clearly fighting for the little guy" is lying or insane.

The lowering food prices was particularly egregious. Cuz literally on his first day he said he couldnt do it. And he is totally right!!! But he ran on it regardless. Another lie and another debt incurrednto the truth

On the positive side the states that are may get hit by this do not believe in climate change so they can make believe the devastation isn't happening.

A study conducted by scientists at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science found that 35 upscale condo and hotel buildings in Sunny Isles Beach, Miami Beach, Surfside, and Bal Harbour sank by between 2 and 8 centimeters between 2016 and 2023.

Among the buildings affected are the uber-exclusive and expensive Faena House, Porsche Design Tower, and the Surf Club Tower.

To measure the degree of subsidence, researchers used the interferometric synthetic aperture radar—a type of satellite—to examine shifts in the land between 2016 and 2023. They found that buildings in the affected areas saw shifts of up to 3 inches.

"The discovery of the extent of subsidence hotspots along the South Florida coastline was unexpected," the study's lead author, Farzaneh Aziz Zanjani, said in a statement. "The study underscores the need for ongoing monitoring and a deeper understanding of the long-term implications for these structures."

Florida's karst bedrock is perfectly capable of providing support for 2- to 6-story buildings. However, a bunch of New York style high rises may be a bit much. The settlement appears to be relatively uniform. So, differential settlement has not been an issue yet. I suspect that the underlying limestone bedrock is actually being compressed. Not good when combined with the rising sea level.

Well that's just opinions of experts I rather believe Fox News.

On a serious note I don't think any of us is ready for the sheer insanity and nuttiness of the next 4 years.

Hopefully the US is strong enough to be able to recover after that. I think we will. The fact that the US consists of states and territories with high degree of independence will help.

Republicans, and conservatives in general, don't think rationally. Evidence only serves to prop up their predetermined conclusions, and any evidence that does not is discarded and ignored. It's why you can't rationalize them out of their positions.

Here, they needed to see a big win, so it's a big win, and anything that even tangentially seems to confirm that will be put forward, and any counter-evidence will be handwaved. Orwell pegged it right when he said that "The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."

And why shouldn't he have lied? American voters have made is clear they don't give a shit if you lie, in fact they actively reward it. The bigger the BS the most they love it.

He campaigned on a LOT of promises. Auto insurance rates cut in half, food prices be lowered, gas prices be far lower and the like.

Much like my much hoped Magneto cosplay with the COVID vaccine(still waiting on my powers of magnetism that I was supposedly to get), in March if my car insurance rate isn't cut in half, there will be some booing. There is always booing when it involves Trump but there will be more.
