It is a surprisingly low threshold lie considering the level of financial literacy out there. A lot of people seem to be of the opinion that the president is all powerful when it comes to the economy. They should look at Xi Jin Ping. Despite, almost absolute authority, he has been unable to reverse China's post-pandemic economic malaise. Part of the reason why gasoline prices are staying low is because of waning China's demand. US oil export to China has gone down to 81.9 million barrels in 2024 from 150.6 million in 2023.

Indeed, none. Again, I also want to point out that, apparently, the US needs Greenland for National Security Lol. I would ask "hey Trump voters, are you willing to admit this sounds Hitlerian yet?" and so I will. Hey, Trump supporters, Trump is saying we "need" another country for "National Security" you wanna comment? If you do, I promise not to tell you to "rot in hell".

The dumbest part of that is that the US already "has" greenland for security purposes. There's a US military base there and everything

Why are we worrying about Greenland and Iceland? Any invasion from that direction will have to go through Canada first.

Now I have this urgent desire to rewatch Canadian Bacon.

For the sake of historical accuracy, we were Britain at the time. Any Canadian troops by definition were British troops. Britain was still part of the "we", and we still have a close relationship with the UK via the shared monarchy and the Commonwealth and such.

    This will be interesting.

MAGA Civil War Erupts as Trump Backers Turn on Vivek Ramaswamy Over H-1Bs

I thought that this will be an issue.

This is Tesla H-1B visa hires through the years.

    https://h1bgrader.com/h1b-sponsors/tesla-inc-op0l16qz2l

As you can see, Tesla hires a lot of H-1B visa workers. As in thousands.

Who is right? Ramaswamy or Loomer? I lean toward Ramaswamy.

According to the National Science Board (NSB), almost half of US science graduates are foreign born. Considering that foreign students only make up 6% of US university students, that's pretty amazing. Basically, the majority of US international students are pursuing degrees in STEM fields or MBA. From my days at Berkeley, I would say that's pretty accurate observations.

Trump recently making comments about the US invading or acquiring Canada, Mexico, Greenland, and Panama before even being inaugurated yet should raise alarms. Authoritarianism often brings imperialism along for the ride.

In a lengthy post to X, Ramaswamy blamed decadeslong cultural trends as the reason “top tech companies often hire foreign-born & first-generation engineers over ‘native’ Americans.” He argued that the decline of U.S. citizens choosing to pursue engineering stemmed from kids growing up in a lazy, culture that has long promoted “the prom queen over the math olympiad champ” and “the jock over the valedictorian.”

This one is interesting. H1B visas and the hiring practices of tech companies are big dividing lines in the new Trump coalition.

Master's thesis involved interacting with over 150 dementia patients and their families over 3 years, it's not some wikipedia paper lmao, but I'm sorry, one day you might understand the effort that goes into a master's thesis and being with someone while they're doing said master's thesis, or you might just think it's some 2 page high school paper because you've never been that high in the education system? IDK, my point still stands.

Elon is talking to foreign leaders, influencing outcomes in our national house of representatives, having meetings with key government officials while Trump shits his pants and posts vaguely threatening messages that nobody takes seriously.

Elon might have fucked himself with the rugpull, and he's bleeding a lot of support from the white nationalists, but we'll have to see. He still has a ton of support. Elon exists as a far more existential threat to our nation than Trump at this point, Trump wants to stay out of jail and that's about it. Elon is much younger and can buy/rig future presidencies for his benefit. But who knows, maybe the white nationalist bloc will turn on him since Elon is blatantly saying that skilled immigrant labor is better than (read: Cheaper than) white native labor.

As someone who lived for years with an ex-girlfriend who was working through her Masters/Doctorate theses, I can attest that it's very easy to get involved in the subject, as well. When something dominates a person's life as much as a graduate thesis does, anyone who cares for that person will almost naturally grow to be more than a little bit involved.

In fact, anyone involved with a graduate student who doesn't know far more than the average person about the subject their significant other is studying is almost certainly a shitty partner who can't be bothered to take an interest in anyone other than themself.

Here's the problem: we don't know if Trump is suggesting just taking Panama, Greenland, Canada and the Pacific Ocean because he's demented, because he's retarded, or because he seriously believes this is the right thing for the US to do and that he has the legal authority and ethical imperative to do it.

Granted, none of these are redeeming qualities, and nobody in their right mind would have voted for someone who forced them to make that call.

Also, the ideas being lunatic nonsense does not mean Trump will not force the USA down a path that seeks to realize them. Authoritarian despots try and do crazy shit all the time, whether because of the inherent mental flaws that lead them to becoming despots in the first place, or the lack of proper checks and balances to mediate their worst impulses.

It's not even enough to say there are sufficient checks and balances, because being blocked internally might provoke more insane moves by Trump to try and surmount those checks.

Meanwhile, those other countries are looking at a belligerent superpower making threats, and we can't treat it like a silly goof. Because even the small chance that it might turn out not to be is such an immense threat it has to be considered. It was never likely that the USSR would launch nukes against the USA, but it was an ever-present risk in the Cold War, and that's why it was a war, and one that remained cold. That's what we're dealing with, here; a belligerent superpower threatening war against their own allies. For the yuks, or whatever. It's psychotic, and that means we need to make preparations that the crazy shithead making threats might actually mean them.

If you look into it though all the places he says he wants to take over have strategic importance for the US to counter act China. I think a serious person like McMasters briefed him on hypotheticals about these things and since these places don't have many brown people in his mind he wants to take it over.

That's another one in the same vein, a lot of generals think the reason the war on drugs failed is because we didn't go in hard enough.
