Also, don't mistake "set aside as likely not a going concern any more" with "forgotten". The same way your racist uncle muttering nasty comments about your interracial spouse might be set aside for the moment, but if he brings it up again, hands are getting thrown.

You’re telling him what he wants to hear: that his strongman is saying strong words that make others scared. Because when their strong man seems strong, they feel strong.

Their allegiance isn’t to freedom loving peoples. It’s not to sovereignty. It’s not to right to determination or consent or any of that.

It’s to trump, to trump being powerful, and owning the libs.

Don’t give him the satisfaction of begging his consideration. They deserve only ire.

So by SomewhatConcerned's own take, Trump is a clown that everyone should make fun of, particularly because his "jokes" aren't funny. He's bad at being a clown, even if that's all he actually is.

Of course I agree with you here. But even if it were "I'm going to eat your last bowl of Mini-wheats" and my friend told me to stop joking about that...I would stop joking about that. And if I didn't...I wouldn't be being his friend.

I have some bad news for you.

Trump's popularity is on the rise. Not on the decline.

What people were saying why they voted for him and why the actually voted for him are completely disconnected.

The news cycle has moved on. Inflation, prices etc are now irrelevant and nobody cares.

We are still trying to rationalize the outcome. Reality check time. It wasn't the price of eggs. It's that people like the fascism.

With a lot of what Trump says...there is always at least a kernel of truth.

There is no denying that poor governance is playing a huge role in these fires. Reports of no water coming out of fire hydrants? Fire department funds diverted for other uses? The LA mayor visiting Ghana (why??) while her city burns?

Modern cities shouldn't simply burn to the ground.

Good news: LA isn't burning to the ground. Palisade is a suburb 20 miles outside of downdown LA, the kind of suburb that's always been at risk and remains at risk of fires in CA.

Shame that nobody in the incoming administration believes in climate change and its effects, so instead we get a senile old man who thinks there's a literal faucet you can turn on and off to give water to California.

    What fucking kernel of truth?

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/sarador...n-declaration/

The only kernel in Trump's diatribe is a kernel of horseshit.

Pumping more of California's VERY limited water supply to SoCal Alfalfa farmers isn't going to do diddly squat to deal with the drought or with getting more water into Santa Monica.

The entire basis for all this is that California's north has an abundance of water, and the delta smelt hindered California's ability to pump more water into the aqueduct that goes south. The aqueduct does not simply supply farmers.

Diamond Valley Reservoir, the largest reservoir in Southern California, is currently at 97% capacity.

    https://cdec.water.ca.gov/resapp/ResDetail?resid=DMV

The same goes for all other Southern California reservoirs.

The problem is not lack of water. It has never been about the water. The problems are Santa Ana wind with 100 mph gusts, dry hilly chaparral environment, dry winter and homes built adjacent to deep canyons. The firefighting airplanes are not on the air because it is unsafe for them to fly into the canyons under the current high wind conditions.

Here is a little pro tip for comments like this.

You take them at face value. Because if you don't, and they turn out to be true, you become unprepared for said problem that is now upon you.

So no, it is irrelevant if Trump is trolling or not. Because it is no different than someone saying "You know, I see a lot of nice stuff in your house. I might have to break in there and take it.". You take it at face value and put a stop to it at that point. Because the alternative is worse.

You do realize that states like California, Nevada and the like get fires, right? It is a natural part of their landscape that fires will burn away dead brush and the like. The problem now is twofold. One is people are now living in areas that are extremely prone to catching on fire(desert type areas that are usually dry) and people deciding to either set up camp and light a fire knowing that the surrounding area is dry/purposefully set fires to cause damage/gender reveal nonsense/etc.

You will see the same type out outcry when cities that are right on the coastline start to be flooded and not be livable sometime in the next 30 years(like a lot of Florida coastline or the erosion of coastal land in California).

All the water in the world will not prevent those mountains from catching on fire as they have always been prone to catching on fire.

No, they don't. They think we just need to rake our forests a bit more. Just like Florida needs to do a better job not having so many hurricanes and floods. What the fuck Florida, why do you flood all the time? Why do you get battered by hurricanes? Fix your shit, Florida.

As for the FD running out of water to fight the fires at Pacific Palisades, the article below provides succinct explanations on why that happened. Bottom line, LA Water and Power pumping capacity could not keep up with demand which increased to 4 times above normal. Old infrastructures going back 80 years or more did not help.

In the Palisades Fire, LA DWP’s 3 huge water tanks all ran out of water
LADWP chief Janisse Quiñones says the water system has been pushed to the extreme
