also, I'm a fan of renaming the gulf using the letters of the nations that border it - cuba, united states, and mexico

I like the idea of the global community choosing to officially rename the USA to "North Mexico", myself.

As a citizen of the USA, I hereby adopt "North Mexico" as my nation's new name.

Used to work there, wasn't in charge of naming things but damn I'm glad I don't work there now otherwise I'd be very tempted to start fucking with map names, but in the opposite way that MAGA wants.

Medicaid, Head Start, health centers locked out of federal funding site

A wide range of organizations and agencies that depend on federal health department funds say they have been locked out of the online system responsible for tracking and depositing their money, in the wake of the White House's move to freeze funding across the Trump administration.

These include state Medicaid programs which have been unable to log into the Payment Management Services web portal, or PMS, run by the Department of Health and Human Services, which handles billions of dollars of payments every year.

The website currently warns that due "to Executive Orders regarding potentially unallowable grant payments, PMS is taking additional measures to process payments. Reviews of applicable programs and payments will result in delays and/or rejections of payments."

Neither. These are professional and volunteer aid workers trying to use the federal benefits their taxpayer dollars funded, only for Trump to decide he'd rather keep food from the hungry, heat from the cold, and medicine from the sick.

So how long before the money saved from "woke Medicaid procedures to allow transgender therapy" gets routed into Trump's golf trip fund?

This is how unserious the GOP is about illegal immigration.

Florida lawmakers propose new Office of State Immigration Enforcement. The Chief Immigration Officer (CIO) will coordinate with the federal government to crack down on illegal immigration. The new CIO will be an immigration hardliner, correct?

No. The new CIO would be the state Agriculture Commissioner, Wilton Simpson. DeSantis was unhappy about that. The way he put it, "puts the fox in charge of the hen house."

    A bit of background.

For over 40 years, Simpson owned and managed a large-scale egg farm that supplies eggs to grocery stores across Florida.

It's kinda crazy that we're literally in a constitutional crisis at this very moment, and Republican house members are golfing with Trump. He's trying to take the power of the purse away from the house and give it to the executive, giving Trump full power over denying monetary aid to those who don't kiss the ring.

I'm just sitting here remembering all of the people on this forum and other places who told me I was "overreacting" in saying that Trump wanted to be a dictator.

But it's not bad. It's THEIR dictator. They're happy as Vance on an Angra White.

What are you even talking about? Biden did fund the "wall" as a matter of fact he got reamed over the coals for doing so.

Trump's treasury secretary made it pretty clear, they plan on destroying all the social programs to funnel trillions into the pockets of their oligarch buddies.

It was in his inauguration speech. He says that he wants to cut programs all over, and increase the money going into the US government. He explained the looting very clearly. Not sure how his followers totally missed it.

it's been on that path for a while in South America and IIRC only the northern states retain larger trade agreements with the US over China, but that probably won't last too long.

this is a good thing for maga, though, they're isolationist and think that's a good policy

Whoa whoa whoa! That's not correct at all!

The apostrophe goes between the "y" and the "all" It's a contraction for "you all". You're completely correct about China, however. Say what you want about the country, at least they're sane, consistent, and reliable.

"Those of us who are well fed, well garmented and well ordered, ought not to forget that necessity makes frequently the root of crime. It is well for us to recollect that even in our own law-abiding, not to say virtuous cases, the only barrier between us and anarchy is the last nine meals we've had. It may be taken as axiomatic that a starving man is never a good citizen. With this in our mind, what shall be said of the man who arranges famine, who forces a labor strike with its privation, its rioting, its disorder, its bayonet thrusting, and its blood-letting as an incident in his money heaping? If necessity breeds crime, what is he who creates the necessity?"
