At the same year, Wood Products was the 15th most imported product in United States. United States imports Wood Products primarily from: Canada ($17.2B), China ($3.99B), Brazil ($2.22B), Chile ($1.61B), and Germany ($1.49B).

The US exported $10.6B and, yes, imported more from Canada than we exported, and China's next.

And all of this is even with an existing tariff on Canadian lumber. Yes, Biden had one, it was 14% and I'm willing to bet 25% will stack, not replace.

"Double in price" might not be exact, but it'll go up a significant amount.

In a country with a terrible housing crisis, jacking up the price of lumber will make the cost of new construction prohibitive. I am not excited about this at all as I am in the market to purchase my first home.

I just purchased my first home summer of last year, I had plans to build a big wrap around deck from front door to back door, this increase in lumber cost is the difference in thousands of dollars in material cost.

Idk, I feel like the price of lumber was always doomed to continuously rise regardless of political sides. The left has always felt more likely invest in deforestation efforts, not nearly as detrimental to the overall cost like the sudden price hike were getting now.

Official Email Urges Federal Workers to Find More Productive Jobs

Late on Thursday, the most difficult day that Federal Aviation Administration employees had faced in decades, they received an email from government personnel officials, reiterating an offer from earlier this week to resign.

"Who cares what some disgruntled employee thinks?"

In a mass email sent to federal employees just before 8:30 p.m. — almost exactly 24 hours after an air crash in Washington that killed 67 people — the Office of Personnel Management encouraged F.A.A. workers, including air traffic controllers, to look for new jobs outside of government, where they might have an opportunity to be more productive.

“We encourage you to find a job in the private sector as soon as you would like to do so,” stated the email, which was reviewed by The New York Times. “The way to greater American prosperity is encouraging people to move from lower productivity jobs in the public sector to higher productivity jobs in the private sector.”

Actually, yes, some towers have been opted out by the FAA. It's literally half of them, mostly lower-staff and cargo.

The message, in the form of “F.A.Q.s” — or Frequently Asked Questions — suggested that if the employees agreed to depart, they could take a second job or travel to their “dream destination” while still on the public payroll for months before leaving permanently. But employees have been informed over the years that it is illegal for them to take a second job while working for the federal government, raising questions about whether the government can deliver on that offer.

And yes, this is a followup/continuation of the "we'll pay you half a year's salary if you promise to leave your job" from last week. Yes, last week, this has only been eleven days.

Trump’s claim was repeated in an executive order Trump signed Thursday that ordered a review of aviation safety: “During my first term, my Administration raised standards to achieve the highest standards of safety and excellence.”

That’s false. In his first term, Trump left the standards unchanged.

For air traffic controllers, the Obama administration in 2013 instituted a new hiring system that introduced a biographical questionnaire to attract minorities, underrepresented in the controller corps. The program was criticized, such as in a Fox News report in 2015, as making it harder for more skilled applicants to get hired as controllers.

But Trump, in his first term, left the policy in place, leading to a class-action lawsuit filed in 2019 by Mountain States Legal Foundation. The case was due to go to trial this year.

"Okay, I guess he didn't change the standards like he said, but at least he didn't put them in place!"

He did.

Moreover, the FAA under Trump in 2019 launched a program to hire controllers using the very criteria he decried at his news conference.

“FAA Provides Aviation Careers to People with Disabilities,” the agency announced on April 11, 2019. The pilot program, the announcement said, would “identify specific opportunities for people with targeted disabilities, empower them and facilitate their entry into a more diverse and inclusive workforce.”

FAA Provides Aviation Careers to People with Disabilities

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) today announced a pilot program to help prepare people with disabilities for careers in air traffic operations.

A key focus for the FAA’s Office of Civil Rights is to identify specific opportunities for people with targeted disabilities, empower them and facilitate their entry into a more diverse and inclusive workforce.

The FAA will enroll up to 20 people in the Aviation Development Program. They will train for up to one year at 10 Air Route Traffic Control Centers throughout the U.S. The following facilities will participate in the pilot: Minneapolis, Minn., Cleveland, Ohio, Boston, Mass., Denver, Colo., Fort Worth, Texas, Jacksonville, Fla., Seattle, Wash., Memphis, Tenn., Kansas City, Kan., and Salt Lake City, Utah.

The candidates in this program will receive the same rigorous consideration in terms of aptitude, medical and security qualifications as those individuals considered for a standard public opening for air traffic controller jobs. Participants in the program will receive up to one year of experience in an Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC) with the potential to be appointed to a temporary ATCS position at the FAA Academy.

Candidates for the Aviation Development Program must meet the following criteria:

United States citizenship
The qualification for Schedule A Direct Hiring Authority
Meet Office of Personnel Management ATC qualification standards
Pass Air Traffic Skills Assessment (AT-SA) Aptitude test
No more than 30 years of age
Pass a medical/security review
Be proficient in English
Education and/or work experience:
- three years of progressively responsible work experience or,
- a bachelor's degree or
- a combination of post-secondary education and work experience that totals three years.

In other words, Trump either intentionally lied, or forgot about a program he started himself five years ago. Neither is a redeeming quality.
