Here's the issue unless congress actually stands up to them yeah they effectively have the power of the purse. The dismantling of USAID and the DoE is beyond illegal but it isn't going to stop them. They are just breaking everything they can and refusing to use earmarked funds for what they are earmarked. Unless congress actually stands up to them which they won't with Republican control they will keep going.

For God's sake we already have the start of a concentration camp in gizmo. Stop saying they can't do that and start figuring out what you can do to protect yourself and your loved ones. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like there will be a military coup to regain sanity so this is likely the new normal going forward. I never thought I would be legitimately hoping for a military coup of the united states but that's the point we are at.

Oh, I have never once said they won't or is not doing that. In fact, if Congress doesn't do it's duly elected responsibilities, we basically now have an illegitimate government as now the checks and balances laid out in the Constitution are literally null and void. Because the federal government, not the states, get their authority from the US Constitution.

It would be then up to the states themselves to either enforce it, by means they feel they need to use, or people themselves.

The CFPB was created to prevent blatant disregard for common sense safety from causing another recession.

The Trump administration has ordered the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to stop nearly all its work, effectively shutting down an agency that was created to protect consumers after the 2008 financial crisis and subprime mortgage-lending scandal.

Russell Vought, the newly installed director of the Office of Management and Budget, directed the CFPB, in a Saturday night email confirmed by The Associated Press, to stop work on proposed rules, to suspend the effective dates on any rules that were finalized but not yet effective, and to stop investigative work and not begin any new investigations. The agency has been a target of conservatives since President Barack Obama pushed to include it in the 2010 financial reform legislation that followed the 2007-2008 financial crisis.

The email also ordered the bureau to “cease all supervision and examination activity.”

You just have to execute a series of tariffs on foreign nations to drive up the price of goods for American consumers that will definitely eventually be offset by tax legislation that puts money into the hands of the extremely wealthy. THEN the average American will make more money!
