Canadian premier says he will cut off electricity exports to US ‘with a smile on my face’
Ontario Premier Doug Ford said Monday he is prepared to cut off electricity exports to the U.S. if President Trump’s 25 percent tariffs on Canadian goods go through.
“If they want to try to annihilate Ontario, I will do everything — including cut off their energy with a smile on my face,” Ford told reporters at a mining convention in downtown Toronto, the Toronto Sun reported.
Ford doubled down on his pledge to retaliate by matching tariffs, noting the U.S. is a major customer of Canada’s electricity.
“They rely on our energy. They need to feel the pain. They want to come at us hard, we’re going to come back twice as hard,” he said.
The Sun reported Ford said he would go dollar-for-dollar in matching tariffs: “That’s exactly what we’re going to do.”
Ford suggested the federal and provincial governments are unified in their approach to fighting U.S. tariffs.
“The provinces have a big say in it, but it’s the federal government that’s leading the charge, and we’re going to stand shoulder-to-shoulder no matter who’s in the federal government.
“I [didn’t] start this tariff war, but we’re going to win this tariff war,” Ford added.
The remarks come as Trump announced Monday that the 25 percent tariffs on Canada and Mexico will officially go into effect Tuesday, saying there is no more room for dealmaking before the 30-day delay expires.
“The tariffs, they’re all set. They go into effect tomorrow,” Trump said, adding there’s “no room left for Mexico or Canada” to make a deal before midnight.
Trump had warned last week that the tariffs will go forward after he delayed them for a month following conversations with the Canadian and Mexican leaders, during which they agreed to action to address the flow of drugs at the border.
Trump said Monday that “vast amounts of fentanyl got poured into our country” largely through Mexico and from China, and he encouraged car manufacturers to build plants in the U.S. to avoid the upcoming tariffs.
“So, what they have to do is build their car plants, frankly, and other things in the United States, in which case they have no tariffs,” Trump said Monday.
The president also announced reciprocal tariffs will start April 2, which will cover imports from all nations that levy import taxes on U.S. goods.
Probably not.
It's like the techbros who learn about agriculture an the hack that if you plant tomatoes you can harvest them to plant even more tomatoes next year and it's like printing infinite free money why isn't everyone doing it it's all so easy?
People who've never had to do a hard days manual labor have no concept of what it entails or actually means.

Just a reminder that the majority of US corn and soybean crops are for livestock consumption and not fit for human consumption. Sweet corn is for human consumption.
Also, planting season starts in April. The end of the rainy season. The farmers already have their seeds on order. Switching on the fly is not an option.

Never tasted them. However, my wife's grandparents live in a small town called Fithian in the middle of corn fields in Illinois. According to them feed corn has the consistency of cardboard and is pretty tasteless. Her grandfather used to complain that Illinois once produce the best sweet corn in the world.
I think he's also aware they don't need to. If Americans wanted to buy American farm products, they would be doing so already. It's much closer and fresher, and a 25% tariff likely won't make it cheaper.

So, I thought we were against all forms of DEI? I mean, isn't that the new boogeyman that Trump and the MAGAverse is conjuring up? Now we are walking back some or most of it or what they "claim" is DEI?

- - - Updated - - -The Trump administration gave schools a DEI ultimatum – then walked it back
In mid-February, the Trump administration told tens of thousands of K-12 schools and colleges they had until Feb. 28 to comply with a sweeping and vague order to root out diversity, equity and inclusion on their campuses.
Over the weekend, the U.S. Department of Education issued new guidance softening that mandate and reversing course on some of its broadest requests.
In a “frequently asked questions” document posted Saturday morning after the deadline, the department's Office for Civil Rights walked back its directive, saying not all DEI initiatives actually violate the initial instructions.
A program or policy isn’t unlawful just because it uses the terms “diversity,” “equity” or “inclusion,” the new federal guidance says. Cultural and historical observances – including Black History Month and International Holocaust Remembrance Day – won’t be discouraged either.
Perhaps most notably, the Education Department acknowledged the federal government doesn't have the power to dictate school curriculum.
In a statement to USA TODAY on Monday, Craig Trainor, the acting assistant secretary for civil rights, said the “frequently asked questions” document issued over the weekend and the initial directions provide guidance on the law.
He denied the implication that the Education Department had altered its policies.
”There has been no walk back,” he said.
Well, this was what was going to happen anyway regardless of any visit by Zelensky.

Do you know what social security has never done in the 8 decades since it was founded? Miss a payment.
And now thanks to Trump and Musk that has ended.

Well, if there is one thing that both sides love to do, is use performative props to make a point. For the Republicans, MAGA and the GOP, it is usually veterans, the military or things of that nature. For Democrats, it is people who are harmed by GOP policies.
