His only action was to attack the reporter to try and discredit him. That immediately tells you all you need to know about this mess.

At best, they'll find themselves some scapegoat in the form of a random aide that was secretly the person to add the journalist and fire them. Followed by some words along the lines of "this person made an egregious error, we take security very seriously, won't happen again."

Or, most likely, they'll just go after the journalist (and probably The Atlantic) and that's it.

Its a huge blunder that should see several jobs lost, but will likely be ignored after just a few days. And the media will even help. This won't be a Hillary case where they harp on about it for years. It won't be long before the next thing fills news screens and everyone jumps on that. Because that's the approach of this administration, to shotgun as much shit at the wall as they can, that way only some of it sticks and it ruins the ability to focus on anything real.

The US Government had a thing against this particular individual before violent pro-Hamas protests took part on Columbia university? Or did the investigation of the leadership of the group practicing lawless behavior in support of Hamas (false imprisonment, unlawful encampments, assault of students and destruction of property) reveal their names? I leave open the possibility that the case goes badly for him before the Immigration Judge (there's that due process thing for you!), and he broke the Immigration and Nationality Act. If you know a lot more than you're letting on about the government's evidence prior to the hearing, then repeating due process a dozen times doesn't persuade me that you've got it.

There's news in the world other than what you wish everybody else was talking about with you. Frankly, if you'd linked to the story yourself with a small description and "it comes during a week with a major Hegseth/Walz fuck-up news story," I wouldn't have even posted it.

This thread is not some platform where you get to decide what stories should receive attention, and declare things that don't conform to that as "redirection of the thread away." If you don't like discussing it, don't discuss it. If you think everything being said is a fine discussion, and covers all the bases, don't feel like you have to add your voice.

He's being accused of fraud on the Permanent Resident registration/status change form. Failing to disclose UNRWA for past employment, failure to disclose ongoing employment for the UK embassy in Beirut, and failure to disclose current membership in CUAD. A fraudulent application for a green card is a reason to lose it. It also helps to explain how he became a green card holder.

Lying about UNRWA is prob the end of him. I dont like that this is a justification after the fact tho. The government clearly dug this up if not they would have mentioned it much earlier or they would not have arrested him thinking he had a student visa.

When it's on the front page of the New York Times, you'll still demand that it receives more real estate.
