On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

In regard to the numbers on Trump's bigly tariff sheets:

So the reason that countries where goods are tariffed at ~3-5% are being presented as 30+%, it's because they made up numbers using other things. The stupidity of this administration is unfathomable. Some people think they've broken the code:
They took each country's 2024 trade deficit divided by US imports and then divided that by 2. (with min 10%, even with surplus)
I checked a few, and it works!

Trump is telling people behind closed doors that Elon is resigning soon.

I live in the US and I am advocating it. The MAGA want to bring pain to everyone else except for themselves. Fuck that, they are going to feel it too. Might as well as go all the way and make them feel it to the point of breaking.

Well, if it is 1100 points, that is about 2.5% drop from today's numbers. That is fairly large. If it gets into the 5% or higher range, that is massive. Nasdaq is already at a 5% loss in after hours trading.

So, the whole "tariff" amounts is literally taking 50% of whatever the trade deficit is with the US and making that the tariff %.
Trump still doesn't, and will never, understand that trade deficits are not anything of anything. It is not money owed or that it is subsidizing any other country. It literally means someone is buying more from one country than they are of yours. And for the most part outside of China and India, there is no means for any other country to ever close their trade deficit.
So congrats MAGAts and other Trump supporters, I hope you like your goods that aren't going to be 5% or 10% higher. They will be, at a minimum, 25% or greater. And in the case of vehicles, more likely 35% or greater seeing as the semiconductors used in them are going to be tariffed harder than most things.

So, since Trump's big "Liberation Day" announcement, bitcoin has lost about 8% of its value since 4 PM EST today, Tesla at about 8% and Trump's own crypto at about 12%.
How is all that winning coming along?
Feel like a big winner yet? Feel liberated?

Love when the people upstairs scream "DON'T PANIC EVERYTHING IS OKAY ACTUALLY," nothing makes me feel more safe.

So, according to Trump in his famous "Liberation Day" speech, the LACK of tariffs caused the Great Depression. Not that the fact that world trade pretty much was tanking due to tariffs and reciprocal tariffs. And don't forget, he is celebrating Financial Literacy Month which is April.
Must be the biggest April's fools day joke ever, right?
Right?

President Donald Trump got a thorough roasting on social media Wednesday after claiming that a lack of tariffs caused the country to spiral into the Great Depression in 1929.
Trump made the remarks during a Rose Garden appearance touting his "liberation day" tariffs as the hand-picked audience that included Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Michigan autoworkers applauded. Trump said he would use the occasion to sign a “historic executive order instituting reciprocal tariffs on countries throughout the world.”
Trump then began giving a history lesson of sorts.
"In 1913, for reasons unknown to mankind, they established the income tax so that citizens rather than foreign countries would start paying the money necessary to run our government," Trump said. "Then, in 1929, it all came to a very abrupt end with the Great Depression, and it would have never happened if they had stayed with the tariff policy; it would have been a much different story. They tried to bring back tariffs to save our country, but it was gone. It was gone. It was too late. Nothing could have been done."
Trump continued, "It took years and years to get out of that depression, far longer than even FDR — had that office right over there for a long period of time. The ramp system, it's rather intricate, was built because of him. And every time you walk up, you think of him. And he did a great job in many ways — but it lasted long beyond his terms, as you know. But it's not too late any longer, and we're going to start being smart, and we're going to start being very wealthy again."
have we even talked about the leaked emails about how donalds administration is weaponizing the government against the state of maine because their governor dared point out that donald was being a transphobic bigot who didn't know the law?
it's a busy day, i wonder if anyone has asked susan collins about her level of concern.
weird how we're getting the very thing jim jordan was had a committee investigating. almost like it was projection
again
Um, advises countries not to retaliate? The fuck? Does anyone in the Trump admin, or does any carbon-based life form on Earth, think a country will let Trump slap tariffs on them for no reason, shrug, and just wait it out? Especially after both Mexico and Canada proved how easily retaliation works?

The ones with all the influence are billionaires and don't give a shit. The remaining ones think they're in a video game and you can simply restart if things go awry. Neither is a good look.
Eyyyyyyyy the thing I was told by many people would never happen is happening.
Republicans are breaking away from Trump and joining Dems to stop him.
Senate passes Tim Kaine's resolution to terminate Trump's declaration of emergency that is providing the legal underpinning for his tariffs on Canada. Republicans crossing: McConnell, Paul, Collins, Murkowski.
Whew, good thing we didnt shut down the government after-all.
I owe Mr. Schumer an apology line is over there.
Fox News Poll: An increasing number of voters feel the rich aren't paying enough taxes
*ding*
FOX News then immediately tries to salvage things by leading with
"Um...why wasn't that the headline?"With Tax Day approaching, the latest Fox News survey finds 59% of voters think the taxes they pay are too high, down from a record 64% last year. Some 38% think what they pay is about right, and just a smidge say too low (2%).
Beats me, I think they were desperate to get something out the door while Trump was unilaterally creating the greatest tax increase in American history, and also, it's a regressive tax. Even a story as poorly edited as this one is better than "Trump fucked all our viewers tonight, film at 11"
https://www.reddit.com/r/JoeRogan/co...tests_lie_joe/
in which conservative influencer joe rogan has literally never been to a protest in his life and apparently also hasn't been to any organized event where the organizers prepare you ahead of time, thinking that "handing out chant sheets" is proof of nefariuous plots to pay protesters to protest tesla
i've been to these protests. i'm going again on saturday. none of us are getting paid.
"people have said" of course dumbass joe rogan just repeats this
and his dumbass guess goes "this is ad copy!" because he too has never been a part of a well organized event roflmao
really, conservatives are the least civic engaged and aware people by the looks of it. just consistently awful takes like this
why would folks leave at a certain time? because protests are organized from certain times ahead of time, read the fucking materials that are all in public you fuckin goofballs
it's wild how you have to very actively and hardly try to be this stupid and ignorant and gullible
No, they can't. Canada and Mexico were able to make progress when it was basically just them. Now Trump has blanket tariffed the world, and is refusing to listen to anything remotely like reason. Maybe if Australia puts 10,000 people on the American border, Trump will remove their tariff?
"The Australian border...with America?"
I mean, it's counting on Trump being an idiot, so yes.

One thing to note, is that apparently these new tariffs are additive to previous ones. So tariffs on China are actually now 54%, unless they fall under different categories.
And while things may get much more expensive for US citizens, they may get cheaper elsewhere. All this trade that would go to the US now needs a new place to go, which would be a benefit for other countries. Pity about the recession much of the world is going to be hit with.
