I just want one day where I wake up, check the news, and don't immediately sigh at the government... is that too much to ask? Just a single day?

Hey, I didn't buy into this shit! I explicitly went the other direction lol

Fair play to Trump, though. Took him 40 years, but he finally got his tariffs.

    Our Ruling

JD Vance said that Abrego-Garcia "was a convicted MS-13 gang member."

Abrego-Garcia’s attorney said his client has never been convicted of any crime. We also found no evidence that he has any convictions.

Vance appears to be referring to two denials of bond requests in which immigration courts used allegations that Abrego-Garcia was in a gang as a reason for their denial. Abrego-Garcia’s team denies that he’s a gang member and — he has never been put on trial for or convicted of criminal charges.

    We rate the statement False.

President Musk specifically, directly, and personally causes more layoffs in a single month than any month of Biden's term.

A surge in federal government job cuts contributed to a near record-setting pace for announced layoffs in March, exceeded only by when the country shut down in 2020 for the Covid pandemic, according to a report Thursday from job placement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

Furloughs in the federal government totaled 216,215 for the month, part of a total 275,240 reductions overall in the labor force. Some 280,253 layoffs across 27 agencies in the past two months have been linked to the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency and its efforts to pare down the federal workforce.

The monthly total was surpassed only by April and May of 2020 in the early days of the pandemic when employers announced combined reductions of more than 1 million, according to Challenger records going back to 1989. It also was the highest March on record.

“Job cut announcements were dominated last month by Department of Government Efficiency [DOGE] plans to eliminate positions in the federal government,” said Andrew Challenger, senior vice president and workplace expert at the firm. “It would have otherwise been a fairly quiet month for layoffs.”

I pray it actually happens that way. Given how the last vote went, I won't put it past the country to end up with someone just like Trump again.

Because if the markets genuinely believe this is going to happen, surely today will see them shooting to whatever the opposite of the moon is.
The next step is even worse, we are going to see a giant flow of money into Trump crypto currency, campaign and seats being sold at his shit resort. Those who buy in will coincidentally get exemptions from tariffs, this is straight out of mob / Putin playbook to get the oligarchs to pledge fealty. Of course if you are a small business you're fucked but he gives zero shit about the average American.

    Lemme check today's derivatives... Hmmm.

Edit: woops, selected wrong year, here's the correct one...

They are pricing in a probable fourth rate cut by an estimate of 29.2%, that used to be 15% a week ago.

Except the CR that was passed contained this one little provision preventing doing shit about Trump's ability to implement tariffs for a year. If it was a clean CR it wouldn't have been imperative to stop it it wasn't a clean CR.
Can congress reverse a law that they just passed? Trump would take them to court and rightfully win, they tied their hands for a year.

Wrong person was elected president for that to be the case.

Remember, this was all avoidable if people had just voted for Harris. Literally none of this would be happening. At all.

This will be a massive case for international trade law. I'm certain most countries will fight tooth and nail through courtrooms to try and abolish the tariffs. This will cost a lot of money, which the taxpayer will obviously provide.
Only way to effectively do something is to literally cut the US off, establish new international markets between Europe, Asia, Australia and leave them out of it. It's what they seem to want anyway so why not, let them isolate. Most foreign (if not domestic) investors will be looking at selling out and moving their money out of the country by now anyway.

Like it’s so starkly baffling when people were going on about Harris not being the perfect candidate and “really no better than Trump.”

Like, would Harris have made just some of the Doge cuts?

Would she have imposed just some of the tariffs?

Would she have mass laid off just some of the government?

Would she have listened to just some of Musk’s advice or put him in a lesser position of power?

To which the answer is a resounding No. Absolutely none of this would be happening.

Let's be frank Kamala Harris was our hail Mary because Biden fucked up, I have many criticism of her campaign but push comes to shove the odds were against her from the start.

Biden's only really significant fuck up was his decision to run again, made early on in the immediate aftermath of the 2020 election.

I would argue that a close second was assigning Merrick Garland who stalled the Trump investigations for over a year but I agree running again was a major fuck up too.

Trumps tariffs would be equally as arbitrary with or without AI.

Being mad at AI here is like being mad that a hammer was used in a murder.

Also why would anyone want to kneecap the US advantage in AI by imposing such destructive regulations.

Biden’s fuck up was that he was an old man with a stutter and the media chose to make hay about the old man with a stutter instead of the old man that couldn’t string a coherent sentence together that is Trump.
