In another ongoing story: Senator Chris Van Hollen flew to El Salvador this morning to try and get answers from the Government about the state of Kilmar Abrego Garcia from El Slavador's VP. And claimed other Dems might fly out that way too in the near future.

While there the Salvadorian VP allegedly told him that the Trump administration was paying them to keep Garcia - and I assume the other ICE 'Deportees' - at CECOT. Which kinda flies in the face of Trump's DOJ alleging that they cannot compel the government to bring back those prisoners, it just means they really don't want to.

And, as of the time of me writing this post, Senator Van Hollen hasn't been able to get in contact with Garcia or otherwise confirm his location/well-being.

Didn't we know this the whole time, though? Wasn't this literally the deal? That we were paying them to detain "gang members" outside our borders?

With each passing day the likelyhood that the US government, specifically Donald's administration, got Garcia killed increases.

I am sure they are. Supposedly, they were informed by Trump's administration about the restriction on their H20 chips on April 9. However, they did not say anything till today. Maybe waiting for their accountants to come up with a number?

I can't remember if was officially confirmed or not that we were paying them for this; hardly anything Trump says with his mouth can be considered 'official' unless it's in writing or verified by someone else.

But yeah it's very likely looking like he's dead, has been mistreated to the point where they cannot show him to anyone, has been moved elsewhere and they want to keep that on the down-low, or are playing a very stupid game where they think we'll forget he exists if we never see him again.

So Hong Kong's postal service responded to the latest round of tariffs by suspending all shipping to or from the United States, effective immediately.

Republicans have longed moved past the economic impact of immigration. They are actively deporting students from elite colleges, people that are in top PHD programs doing cutting edge research. But like even if you accept that as a framework, you need to at least obey the laws or in the case of Abrego Garcia, maryland father, union worker and proud father of three, not do it lawlessly. Something that republicans seem to struggle with.

Well, it doesn't really. They are still a sovereign government and the United States has no authority to compel them to release any prisoner. They can ask, they can threaten, they can make deals....but they can't actually force them to release Kilmar.

You are right though, they have no intention of doing anything to try and secure Kilmar's release. They never did.

Don't buy into the arguments of the Trump DOJ. The Trump administration is cooperating with the Bukele government to imprison these immigrants. The extent of this cooperation we dont know but thanks to the visit of Senator Van Hollen we now know that the only reason they are doing this is bc they are being paid. So yes, technically if the government refuses to release that would be it but given their cooperation there is no reason to believe that the government of El Salvador wouldnt agree. In fact, they have returned people already.

    Not just cooperating...paying.

Except their President has already said that they won't.

And Bukele, who has been a vital partner for the Trump administration in its deportation efforts, said, “Of course I’m not going to” release him back to U.S. soil.
And my whole point was that The US cannot compel them to release any prisoners. I also stated they can ask, threaten, bargain, etc... just not compel.

But they have no real intention of doing anything to actually get Garcia out of El Salvador.

Thats weird! Cuz backbenching rightwing congressmen from (R-INCELSBERG) have no problem getting photo ops staged at CECOT...

Do very online progressives get the bigger picture?
    • Right wing governments will align and reinforce each other easily.
    • Left wing internationationalist "help" by shitting on Dems 80% of their time.

Is it weird that my first question is "are those photo's actually real or did they just edit them in?"
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

Be mindful of your language. There is a cooperation agreement. Part of that cooperation is payment but also in part of that cooperation there are procedures for recieving people they refuse. And we know this bc Bukele already returned people. So for all we know as part of that agreement the US could compel the Salvadoran government to return certain individuals it asks. Its like how in refugee agreements each party is compelled to obey that agreement even if that isnt enforced by like actual force (police, military, etc)

And that is not what Bukele said. Bukele said he wont smuggle back a terrorist to the US. The careful use of the language is important and purposeful. No one involved in this wants to actually say they wont do it. Its that they cant do it. Like bad customer service. Now if the Trump admin did seek his return and based it on their cooperation agreements, AND THEN the Salvadoran government refused then I would agree. That is the issue at hand and that is why the Trump admin lost their cases on appeal and in the supreme court. The existence of those cooperation agreements is important bc if there were no cooperation agreements here it would be impossible to seek relief (and the Trump admin would be in a whole different battle)

Speaking of kids with autism, Kennedy said "these are kids who will never pay taxes. They'll never hold a job. They'll never play baseball. They'll never write a poem. They'll never go out on a date. Many of them will never use a toilet unassisted."
HHS Secretary RFK Jr. is a hateful, awful, no-good person who is using his office to spread conspiracy theories because he has zero medical training or education.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Wednesday declared that autism is a rapidly growing "epidemic" in the U.S. and vowed to identify the "environmental toxin" he says is to blame.
There is no "environmental toxin", as every medical professional and researching in the autism field has and will continue to tell anyone that asks: The reason there are more people diagnosed with some form of autism is because we've gotten much better at understanding and diagnosing it. That's it.

These are truly the dumbest, most spiteful, malicious folks around.

Edit: Wait, didn't Elon self-diagnose as on the spectrum? Is HHS Secretary RFK Jr. talking mad shit about one of his fellow cabinet members?

I don't think we should put any stock on what a man who is an alcoholic drug addict brain wormed stuffed with steroids and growth hormone says and that's just his health status his rap sheet is just as long. The only reason he isn't rotting in a hole somewhere is because of the power of his last name.

Be mindful of your own. "Cooperating" is not "compelling". You said yourself...El Salvador can always say no.

So yes, technically if the government refuses to release that would be it but given their cooperation there is no reason to believe that the government of El Salvador wouldnt agree.
Unless you can show that there is part of the agreement that says that they have to return individuals when the States asks...which seems unlikely... the Supreme Court ordered that the Trump Adminstration "facilitate" Kilmar's release.

Being compelled and being forced are different things. I am compelled to obey agreements I signed. The police forces me to obey those agreements when I break them.

Thats the difference. The Salvadoran government may be compelled (pendant details on the agreement), they cannot be forced. This language is important.

That is the issue at hand here. The Trump administration is ignoring court orders and hasnt even asked for his return. IF AND THIS IS A BIG IF GIVEN WHAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW, the Trump administration did ask and then the Salvadoran government refused then there would be another type of crisis. But thats not the issue, the issue is that the Trump admin hasnt even requested his return

My guess is the guy is dead or in a very bad shape since there is no reason for them to take it this far. Of course I am trying to apply logic to insane people so I could be wrong.

Obsessive gripes with 'progressives' aside; yeah this tracks. Despite loathing 'globalists', just about every authoritarian leader (outside of the middle east) seems to be in the exact same circlejerk as they attempt to dismantle the democratic world.

Honestly I'm worried that if/when Trump is out of Office or a shifted COngress actually uses its authority to make him cut his shit out, El Salvador will just continue to refuse to give these people back if not just disappear them when Trump's money goes away.

If there were something in the agreement that compelled them to give Kilmar back to the US...then he would be back already...because that was the Supreme Court's order.

Oh no, progressives are not aligned with a hivemind of fascists-lite who would, even if they won, just sought after "compromise" and "moderation" for the sake of the "bigger picture".

Just like the confederates were completely forgiven at the end of the civil war and allowed history to repeat 160 years later today.

Just like the establishment democrats are the ones openly and actively sabotaging any efforts to achieve reform or to rescue victims from republican concentration camps.

But yeah, totally the progressives' fault for refusing to accept fascism-lite as a valid compromise.
