It makes headlines. Trump's E.O. will not affect the average person who is not using a government source of medication, because no E.O. does that.

Further, I was under the impression that Medicare/Medicaid prices were set by contracts, and you can't just break a contract with an E.O. It would be well within the vendors' rights to say "I do not agree to amend the contract, and accepting such a large price drop will put me out of business" and just not supply the meds to the government.

Let's talk about what Trump is at least claiming he'll do: lower the cost to the government to the same cost as the lowest cost country out there. Those countries are very likely small countries. A large manufacturer could take the hit selling smaller amounts of their stock as long as they maintained their normal prices on larger markets. Even if it's just Medicare and Medicaid in the US, that's still a lot of people.

In other words, it's like the 75% tariffs on Madagascar, an island with like four penguins and a thriving vanilla crop. Or, offering free coffee to veterans and having a coward draft dodger demand everyone else get it, too.

Pharm providers can either choose to just not accept this, or to move the costs to other customers, namely, Americans on insurance. So, sorry guys, if anything this will increase your prices, because I do not believe that Pfizer will look at this E.O. and say "I'm going to voluntarily take the massive reduction in revenue and profits".

The Trump administration on Monday formally lifted a shield on deportation of Afghans in the U.S, arguing improving conditions in the Taliban-run country mean its citizens here no longer merit such protections.

The announcement from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) would end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Afghans, a protection ignited by the Biden administration after the U.S. withdrawal amid deteriorating conditions in the country.

TPS can be ignited when the administration concludes it’s not safe to deport someone to their country due to civil unrest or other dangerous conditions.

“This administration is returning TPS to its original temporary intent,” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said in a release on Monday.

“We’ve reviewed the conditions in Afghanistan with our interagency partners, and they do not meet the requirements for a TPS designation. Afghanistan has had an improved security situation, and its stabilizing economy no longer prevent them from returning to their home country.”

I am not gonna comment on the South African situation cuz I know nothing about it but yeah it seems ridiculous that they are being given a priority over people in Afghanistan? Kristina Noem literally would not be able to give a speech in Afghanistan, let alone for an ordinary Afghan woman. Most importantly, many of the people that are US refugees are people that fought for the US and were active enemies of the Taliban.
