In my opinion, the Democratic party currently doesn't have a shining, inspiring leader that is openly running for office in the next election. Once there is someone to rally behind, then polls like that will matter.

And it’s misconstruing “disapprove of democrats” as meaning “support for republicans.”

The people with any actual legitimate complaints about democrats are the people most likely to vote for them.

Now Trump is preventing some companies from selling anything to China.

    https://www.cnn.com/2025/05/28/econo...ompanies-china

The Trump administration has effectively cut off some American companies from selling goods to China, a Commerce Department spokesperson told CNN on Wednesday.

The spokesperson said the department is “reviewing exports of strategic significance to China. In some cases, Commerce has suspended existing export licenses or imposed additional license requirements while the review is pending.”

The Financial Times first reported the news on Wednesday, saying it pertains to American companies that sell software used to design semiconductors, citing people familiar with the matter.

Impacted companies include Cadence, Synopsys and Siemens EDA, according to the FT. CNN was not immediately able to confirm that. The three companies didn’t return requests for comment.

Eeeh thats fine and consistent with Biden foreign policy. Semiconductors are pretty important and the US should keep that stuff in house.

  5. #109085
Except the US doesn't really make many chips here, and factories wouldn't be built and up and running until he's out of office. I also don't remember Biden demanding private companies not sell to a foreign nation. And if he did Trump's supporters would have a bird, saying he's preventing a free market.

I think the "oh it's just cuz they aren't fighting hard enough" is a tremendous coping response. In fact, on the level of what I've seen from some Republicans explaining away Trump's polls, particularly his poll ceiling.

I can't wait for the Trumpsters to screech about government overreach and how much they want the government to stay small and yada yada.

I can only express my opinion on the things I see and hear from my surrounding

If there are more reasons dunno but that is the complaint I hear most people talk about.

Outside of Obama, when was the last inspiring leader they had aside from FDR?

I mean they put in term limits to keep another FDR from holding power for so long and Obama campaigned the opposite of how he governed.

If they have an inspiring leader come up, they will likely fight against them harder than they will the Republican they are up against unless they know he won’t actually try and deliver on what he is campaigning on.

Let’s face it, “I will return us to the status quo!” isn’t actually a message that will inspire.

this brings up a great question -

so what happens to all the tariffs companies have already paid?

    do they get refunds?

and what happens to the Big Beautiful Bill or whatever since that apparently relied heavily on tariffs to fund it?

gosh, this whole administrations platform seems largely singularly based around using tariffs to cause chaos and bully others and i'm just not sure they know what else to do if they can't just threaten to tariff everyone on mondays just to claim victory and say they're pausing the tariffs every tuesday

What makes you think the administration won't just ignore this? Or that the SCOTUS won't rule the other way?

Methinks we might see "most major companies" join the massive pile of lawsuits the Trump administration has been building up.

That said, hoo boy I can't wait to see how hard he fills his Depends raging over this one.

In this case, I feel like it's a matter of "how the hell would Trump's goons enforce it?"

Like, Trump's people can say the tariffs are still there, but if they're legally not, I doubt Wal-Mart is going to throw an extra 50% on their payments just in case.

    Yeah, no.

It is the job of Congress, not the Executive, to actively assign tariffs on anything coming into the country. The Executive can assign very short term tariffs(much like Executive can send troops to a foreign nation without approval of Congress for 30 days), but any permanent tariff must come from Congress itself.

So it is the Courts actively pointing out what is in the actual US Constitution. The only reason why Trump is actively still in office is because Congress has decided to go along with it.
