The Republican Senate gave advise and consent, as you so frequently point out. The party could reject these dangerously unqualified people, they choose not to.

What a strange thing to try to absolve the Republican Senate of any responsibility. I guess we're prepping the field for, "Republicans never actually supported Donald." eventually, again?
Of the people Trump would be willing to nominate, and would be willing to serve under Trump? You have a higher opinion of him than I do, unfortunately!

why are you so desperate to change the topic?

i mean, we know why, but I figure i'd ask anyways.

So hey, I guess FEMA is done for after this year seeing as Trump is going to try and actively dismantle them. Oh, also, he is going to try and disperse any funds given(if given) from directly from the president's office. Meaning he is actively stating he will impound any funds and refuse to release them that are authorized by Congress.

I hope Red states love to watch their states crumble when they get absolutely no funding.

Well, now we know that the Press Secretary is starting to be like Trump in the fact that when actively pushed on a subject, she retreats.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt abruptly ended a news conference after facing tough questions over free speech.

Amid ongoing tensions over Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown in Los Angeles, Leavitt held a briefing in which she accused Democrats of being responsible for “left wing riots” and doubled down on the president’s suggestion that many of the protesters involved were “paid insurrectionists.”

But things got testy when NOTUS reporter Jasmine Wright asked the press secretary about Saturday’s military parade in Washington, which will coincide with Trump’s 79th birthday.

With hundreds of counter rallies expected across the country, Trump had earlier warned that protesters would be met with “heavy force” if they rained on his parade.

“If there were peaceful protests on Saturday for the military parade, President Trump would allow that?” Wright asked.

“Of course the president supports peaceful protests,” Leavitt clapped back. “What a stupid question.”

A few minutes later, the New York Times’ David Sanger returned to the issue of free speech, asking what type of protest Trump would support.

“Is the First Amendment the most important? Is stopping violence the most important? Why is he not out saying all peaceful protesters will be protected?” Sanger asked.

Leavitt answered that while the president supports free speech and the right to protest, “that is not the majority of the behavior that we have seen taking place in Los Angeles.”

“So are you saying the majority of these protests have not been peaceful?” Sanger continued.

A visibly agitated Leavitt then pointed out that almost 400 illegal aliens had been arrested, to which Sanger noted there had been thousands of people on the streets.

After a few more seconds of sparring, Leavitt concluded by saying the president would not stray from his mission to deport illegal immigrants from the country - and abruptly walked out merely twenty six minutes into press briefing.

The unusually short briefing comes amid accusations of overreach by the Trump administration, which has so far sent almost 5000 troops, National Guard and Marines, to Los Angeles.

But the issue of the First Amendment is sensitive for the White House, given that Trump has long claimed to be a defender of free speech.

The First Amendment grants Americans five fundamental freedoms: religion, speech, press, assembly, and the right to petition the government.

Hours after he took his second-term oath of office, Trump signed an executive order describing his commitment to the First Amendment and the right to “speak freely in the public square without government interference.”

“Government censorship of speech is intolerable in a free society,” his order said.

But this week, he has repeatedly warned that he would crush dissidents who stood in the way of his immigration agenda or his extravagant military parade.

“If there’s any protester that wants to come out, they will be met with very big force,” Trump said on Tuesday. “I haven’t even heard about a protest, but you know, this is people that hate our country, but they will be met with very heavy force.”

What do you mean? I'm confused. Did the Republican Senate confirm his unqualified nominations or not? They could have not confirmed them and told him to find some competent people to staff his administration with, they are under no obligation to confirm every unqualified idiot who just says they'll do what Donald tells them.

I think this speaks more to the fundamental rot in the Republican party personally, but that's just me.

What was silly? How many other times to you have senior intelligence officials warning the world about imminent nuclear winter? Why do you have to bring up other things? Her video can be terrifying as well as nuclear powers engaged in war.

I'm not sure why you think it's a simple binary, that's very disappointing.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem tried to get a jump start on using the military to arrest protesters in Los Angeles, according to a newly unearthed letter.

The letter to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth — first reported by the San Francisco Chronicle — got out in front of the White House in seeking to have the Pentagon order the U.S. Marines deployed in the city to arrest protesters who are opposed to the Trump administration’s anti-immigrant raids. (CBS News has also confirmed the contents of the letter.)

    According to the Chronicle:

A letter sent Sunday from Noem to Hegseth, obtained by the Chronicle, requested that the Pentagon give ‘Direction to DoD forces to either detain, just as they would at any federal facility guarded by military, lawbreakers under Title 18 until they can be arrested and processed by federal law enforcement, or arrest them.’
Just how many Constitutional Crisis does this administration want to speedrun?

This is like, super duper illegal.

Anyways, I hope the National Guard are enjoying being deployed by Donald with no organization so they have no supplies and or accommodations or anything. Only the best people, right?

Secretary Puppykiller continues to be a massive cunt.

So, Trump attended the Kennedy Center to watch a rendition of Les Misérables. So did a bunch of drag queens that got tickets to go and protest by showing up in full drag. Granted, not a big protest but none the less, still funny.

A reporter asked if he identified more with Javert or Jean Valjean, and he said he didn't know.

My friend commented that the correct answer is "Thenardier."

Didn't we have this event before where military members didn't get paid?

If someone is concerned that they may, or aren't getting paid, because their employers instructions potentially violate the law, then perhaps a different line of work is in order?

Don't get me wrong, work should be paid. But what's to say the next order isn't "arrest the protestors", it's "shoot the protestors". If the only thing standing between them and taking such action is their paycheck, well...
"Winning? Is that what you think it’s about? I’m not trying to win. I’m not doing this because I want to beat someone, or because I hate someone, or because I want to blame someone. It’s not because it’s fun. God knows it’s not because it’s easy. It’s not even because it works because it hardly ever does.. I DO WHAT I DO BECAUSE IT’S RIGHT! Because it’s decent! And above all, it’s kind! It’s just that.. Just kind."

well you see making sure deployed troops get paid would require people who know how to do their jobs and follow rules and give a shit about that kind of thing

that's now how they do things in this white house, as we're all well aware

Best part is, he went to a play that he more than likely has no concept of. I mean, this is the same man who saw a parade celebrating Bastille Day and completely misunderstood why they have a military parade every year on that day.

Sorry Donald, it isn't to show off the might of the French military.

Military are allowed to disobey illegal orders but nothing he has ordered them to do so far is illegal so not doing it would be a court martial and high chance of screwing over their lives with a non honorable discharge.

They are just sitting in front of government buildings doing mostly nothing, because the idiot brought them in to do nothing.

It's LAPD, ICE and State Police that are fighting with protestors the national guard has done none of that yet to my knowledge.

Yep. They literally are just standing guard. If you try and rush the building, they are legally allowed to detain you until you can be released into the custody of the local PD.

Right now, it is pretty much LAPD fighting with protestors mixed in with a bit of state police. ICE agents are pretty much either hiding in the buildings or elsewhere at the moment.
