When Trump made massive cuts to public safety officials, I did not object, therefore the only logical conclusion was that I supported the move since I supported everyone involved. The deaths are a direct result of that and I have shown no remorse at all. This is exactly what I wanted.

Christopher Kachouroff and Jennifer DeMaster violated court rules when they filed the motion that had contained nearly 30 defective citations, Judge Nina Y. Wang of the U.S. District Court in Denver ruled Monday.

“Notwithstanding any suggestion to the contrary, this Court derives no joy from sanctioning attorneys who appear before it,” Wang wrote in her ruling, adding that the sanction against Kachourouff and Demaster was “the least severe sanction adequate to deter and punish defense counsel in this instance.”

The motion was filed in Lindell’s defamation case, which ended last month when a Denver jury found Lindell liable for defamation for pushing false claims that the 2020 presidential election was rigged.

Yet Trump continues to say it over and over. Hmm.

The filing misquoted court precedents and highlighted legal principles that were not involved in the cases it cited, according to the ruling.

During a pretrial hearing after the errors were discovered, Kachouroff admitted to using generative artificial intelligence to write the motion.

Kachouroff initially told the judge that the motion was a draft and was filed by accident. But the “final” version that he said was the correct one was still riddled with “substantive errors,” including some that were not included in the filed version, Wang wrote.

It was the attorneys’ “contradictory statements and the lack of corroborating evidence” that led the judge to believe that the filing of the AI-generated motion was not “an inadvertent error” and deserved a sanction.

The judge also found Kachouroff’s accusation of the court trying to “blindside” him over the errors were “troubling and not well-taken.”

“Neither Mr. Kachouroff nor Ms. DeMaster provided the Court any explanation as to how those citations appeared in any draft of the Opposition absent the use of generative artificial intelligence or gross carelessness by counsel,” Wang wrote.

Trump continues to hide behind "without me, the bad thing would have been much worse" and now is trying to help Texas for the same reason. He specifically and directly made cuts to the warning system. Claiming "it could have been worse" is true, but it's a self-serving misrepresentation of the event.

The U.S. has reported 1,288 measles cases this year — the highest number in 33 years, according to the latest figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The last time the U.S. saw more measles cases was in 1992, eight years before the disease was declared eliminated in the country.

"We're seeing a lot more measles transmission than we are used to," says Caitlin Rivers. She's the director of the Center for Outbreak Response Innovation at Johns Hopkins University, which has its own measles dashboard.

"Measles is one of the most infectious diseases known to humans. And more importantly, it's preventable. And so we really hate to see this resurgence of a preventable virus," Rivers says.

Since the start of the year, measles cases have been confirmed by more than three dozen states plus the District of Columbia. The largest outbreak by far is in Texas. The state has reported 753 measles cases this year. Across the U.S., 155 people have been hospitalized, and three people have died.

And while the Texas outbreak has slowed significantly, across the country, Rivers says the U.S. is now seeing more cases on a weekly basis than in previous years.

The Texas outbreak started in January. At one point, Rivers says, the state was reporting 15 to 20 new cases of measles per day, raising fears that, if the outbreak continued the U.S. would lose its "elimination" status, which is a technical term in public health that means the disease has not had a constant transmission for a 12-month period or longer. She says that's less likely to happen now, given that the state is only reporting a handful of cases per week.

But that doesn't mean it won't happen in the near future, says Dr. Adam Ratner, a pediatric infectious disease physician in New York City and the author of Booster Shots, a history of the fight against measles.

"We are in great danger of losing our measles elimination status, if not this year, then almost certainly in the coming years," he says.

Ratner points to kindergarten vaccination rates, which have been falling nationwide for years and are currently at 92.7%. In some communities, vaccination rates are much lower, creating pockets of opportunity for measles to spread. The CDC says a 95% vaccination rate threshold is needed to protect communities against measles outbreaks.

"What we're seeing now is, as vaccine hesitancy has grown, particularly during and after the COVID pandemic, those outbreaks are becoming more frequent and larger," Ratner says.

In the wake of the deadly floods in Central Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott praised President Trump for quickly approving a major disaster declaration for Kerr County, the hardest-hit area.

"The swift and very robust action by President Trump is an extraordinary help to our response," Abbott said.

The declaration unlocked federal money to assist with the disaster response. That includes paying for debris removal, for search and rescue experts who are working around the clock, and for housing, food and other immediate necessities for those who lost homes in the floods.

But such assistance may not be available in the future.

President Trump has proposed eliminating the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which provides billions of dollars in assistance to communities hit by disasters. He argues that states should take on more responsibility for responding to and preparing for extreme weather and other disasters.

Texas leaders are helping Trump realize that goal.

This spring, the president appointed a council of Cabinet members, governors and emergency management experts, tasked with recommending changes to FEMA. Gov. Abbott and the top emergency official in Texas, W. Nim Kidd, are both on that council.

"FEMA is slow and clunky and doesn't solve the needs of those who need it the most," Abbott said at the first meeting of the FEMA Review Council in May. "States have proven that we can move more nimbly, more swiftly, more effectively."

Now, as Texas responds to catastrophic floods, the officials leading the state's efforts will also be considering how to reshape, or even dissolve, the country's top disaster response agency.

Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations will be eliminating its entire statewide team of reporters and editors at the end of the year after the Indiana General Assembly defunded the organization.

“This is an incredibly difficult decision, but with the loss of state funding, individual stations have to make some very difficult decisions to address funding shortfalls and are focused on sustaining services to their local communities,” said Mark Newman, the executive director of Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations, Inc.

IPBS is a non-profit consortium of 17 public radio and television stations established in 1979. IPBS and its member stations are partners on education initiatives, civic affairs programming and public safety projects.

Indiana lawmakers in April cut the program’s $3.675 million annual funding after a lower-than-expected revenue forecast. Other programs were trimmed, but IPBS lost its entire line item.

Shortly after, President Donald Trump signed an executive order that cut all federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which provides funding to the Public Broadcasting Service, National Public Radio and member stations, alleging “bias” in the organizations’ reporting.

Outside of public dollars, stations largely rely on donations and grants.

Abbott Calls Seeking Blame for Floods ‘the Word Choice of Losers’

Yeah, that's pretty standard fare. "This is not the time to point out how we brought this problem on ourselves willingly. This is the time to help us deal with the consequences of our own actions without any drawbacks or need to change."

So, at a press conference, Abbott was asked if there would be an investigation to find who was to blame, referencing specifically the Uvalde school shooting-

"Did any consequences happen from that?"

Yes, a bunch of innocent people were shot and killed.

"No, I mean, to Texas."

Not really. The DoJ revealed how pretty much every single action taken by Texas was wrong or mishandled in a 575-page report. As you can see from this "One Year Later" article in the Texas Tribune, changes were small at best.

Many families became politically active, packing Uvalde City Council and school board meetings to demand more school security and call for the firing of police officers. They also traveled to Austin and Washington, D.C., to urge lawmakers to adopt stricter gun laws, such as raising the minimum age to legally purchase AR-15-style rifles from 18 to 21. That measure, though, appears unlikely to pass after House Bill 2744 missed key legislative deadlines.

Some Uvalde residents also waded in to the 2022 elections. Some rooted for Democratic gubernatorial nominee Beto O’Rourke to oust Gov. Greg Abbott, and one father even ran for a county seat. Despite those lost elections, parents and relatives persisted at the Texas Legislature, where they continued to call on lawmakers to pass increased gun regulations during this spring legislative session. One mother also sued the Uvalde school district and the manufacturer of the gunman’s weapon.

So in response to that reporter's completely on-topic, completely called-for relevant question, one which cited evidence mind you, Abbott talked about football.

To answer, Mr. Abbott said asking about blame was “the word choice of losers,” and then invoked a beloved Texas tradition — football — as he deflected questions about accountability for a disaster that has left at least 111 people dead and more than 170 missing.

“Every square inch of our state cares about football,” Mr. Abbott said, referring to the Friday night lights of high school fields and the state’s college and pro teams. “Every football team makes mistakes,” he added.

Extending the metaphor further, the governor said losing teams assigned blame while championship teams responded to mistakes by saying: “We got this. We’re going to make sure that we go score again, that we win this game.”

Routinely.

"Isn't identifying the source of the problem a good way of stopping future problems?"

Routinely. That's why pregnant people don't smoke or drink as much, although after that conference, maybe Abbott's parents did.

Oddly enough, no. His Lt. Gov. sure did, however. Oh, and for some migrant deaths on Texas soil. Oh, and he blamed green energy initiatives for his state's lack of power, despite Texas being run by fossil fuels more than most. So, Abbott is absolutely being a hypocrite here. He absolutely does have a known, public history of blaming people for problems he had, and often incorrectly at that.

Which means, this deflection of a legitimate question is admission he knows he fucked up. And it definitely contradicts "states can move more swiftly" when he was begging for Fema personally and has done nothing to help his state's known public power and gun problems.

In the latest installment in “Dude, What Law Did I Just Pass?” some Republicans were shocked to learn of a provision in Donald Trump’s behemoth budget bill that will tax gambling losses, HuffPost reported Tuesday.

Under the new provision, gamblers will no longer be allowed to deduct 100 percent of their losses from their income tax, and instead will only be allowed to deduct 90 percent. “Now, for example, gamblers who win $100,000 but lose $100,000—coming out even—would still be required to pay taxes on $10,000,” according to HuffPost.

The provision was apparently added at the last minute by Idaho Senator Mike Crapo, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.

Interesting choice, but surely Republicans wanted this, right?

“If you’re asking me how it got in there, no, I don’t know,” said Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley during an interview on Tuesday.

Huh...ok that's one Senator.

Texas Senator John Cornyn admitted, “I don’t know anything about it. I’m not sure what it does.”

“I was so focused on Medicaid, I wasn’t looking for other reasons to be against the bill,” said North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis, one of just three Republicans to vote against the bill. “But that would be another one.”

Ok as we saw the last time Donald was in office, Republicans don't read any of the legislation they vote on and then cry about it later.

It should really be a requirement that lawmakers sit for a full reading of legislation they want to pass, because we keep seeing Republicans rush through legislation without any time to read or debate on it and sometimes with notes scribbled in the margins it's so rushed.

Already, bipartisan efforts have sprung up in the House and Senate on provisions to repeal the rule, concerned that it will attract big bettors to black-market gambling in an attempt to escape the rule.

It's a shame that I, a person who works a normal 9 to 5 completely unrelated to politics and has never gambled, was fully aware of this new gambling provision before it passed, and these senators were somehow completely oblivious.

I know they love spending most of their time golfing and vacationing, but surely they can at least put in 2 or 3 hours of work on a weekday???
