Trump’s tariffs may wreck your holidays — expert warns of a major inflation spike by year-end

Are US tariffs starting to bite? Trump, in denial over rising prices, targets Fed chief Powell

US consumer prices rise in June as tariff pass-through begins

Are tariffs to blame for rising inflation? Experts weigh in (spoiler: the majority say "yes")

Inflation accelerated in June as the Fed weighs the impact of tariffs in rate cut timing *ding*

Consumer prices rose 0.3% last month, pushing the annual inflation rate higher to 2.7%, the highest since February, according to the latest Consumer Price Index data released Tuesday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. (yes that's CNN, notice how they're using exactly the same facts and figures as everyone else, CNN is actual news y'all)

That's just from the last week. Trump is specifically, directly, personally and unilaterally damaging the economy.

    "Oh, replacing all the water?"

    Oddly enough, not really.

California's most ambitious water infrastructure project in nearly half a century has just become a whole lot more expensive - and Trump is being blamed for part of the staggering price surge.

Planners behind the colossal Sites Reservoir, a sprawling basin that could one day provide drinking water to more than 24 million Californians have confirmed that the cost of construction has ballooned from $4.5 billion to at much as $6.8 billion.

And among the reasons cited for the $2 billion spike are the Trump tariffs imposed during the early part of this year which project leaders say are still sending shockwaves through the supply chain.

'The biggest drivers of the increase included factory shutdowns during the Covid-19 pandemic and recent tariffs from President Donald Trump,' Jerry Brown, executive director of the Sites Project Authority (no relation to the former governor), told the Press Democrat.

He attributed the jump to inflation for steel, concrete, and other building materials since 2021.

Well, the nickname is going to ring true.

    Donald "Two Dolls" Trump.

Because that is what he said kids should get. Maybe one or two dolls instead of more.

And if you go by the graph in the one link from The Guardian, the last time Tariffs were this high was right before WW2 broke out. I mean, with Russia basically not stopping in Ukraine, Israel deciding they want to try and take over every single country surrounding them and Trump actively threatening Canada and Greenland, we may actually see WW3 happen.

Trump continues to shout “All three nuclear sites in Iran were completely destroyed and/or OBLITERATED." into the wind while everyone else, including US intelligence, says otherwise.

A new intelligence assessment, reported by multiple news outlets on Thursday, indicates that Iran’s nuclear enrichment site in Fordow was mostly destroyed during the June 21 strikes, but the two other principal sites — Natanz and Isfahan — were not and could potentially resume enriching uranium if Tehran greenlights it.

The Defense Department, along with the White House, pushed back on the assessment, contending that the airstrikes, carried out by B-2 bombers and submarines firing Tomahawk cruise missiles, destroyed all three facilities.

“The credibility of the Fake News Media is similar to that of the current state of the Iranian nuclear facilities: destroyed, in the dirt, and will take years to recover,” the department’s chief spokesman Sean Parnell said in a statement. “President Trump was clear and the American people understand: Iran’s nuclear facilities in Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz were completely and totally obliterated.”
They're not even trying. Responding to credible evidence with "nuh uh" isn't working anymore.

"Well, then, you prove they're working!"

I don't have to. There are already credible reports saying that. Trump is the one claiming otherwise, and has nothing but his useless word. Honestly, Trump claiming they're destroyed is the strongest evidence they're not.

The nation's Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, 988, shuttered the specialized services for LGBTQ+ youth this week. The move came a day after the Lifeline marked three years since its launch. During this period, it has fielded more than 16 million calls, texts and chats. Nearly 10% of those contacts have been from gay and transgender young people, according to government data.
The cruelty is always the point.

Every single public work construction project in all states have their construction cost increased by at least 40% since Trump took over.

Private construction projects which are primarily powered by undocumented immigrants have gone up in cost even higher.

The decision by U.S. District Judge Paul Gardephe in Manhattan is a victory for Woodward, his publisher Simon & Schuster and its former owner Paramount Global.

Woodward interviewed Trump 19 times between December 2019 and August 2020, and about 20% of “Rage” came from the interviews.

In a 59-page decision, Gardephe said Trump did not plausibly allege that he and Woodward intended to be joint authors of “The Trump Tapes,” saying Simon & Schuster credited Trump as a “reader” while crediting Woodward as the author.
"Typical librul Obama appointee, no doubt."

The judge, an appointee of Republican President George W. Bush, also said Trump did not show he had a copyright interest in his stand-alone responses to Woodward's questions.

Gardephe also said federal copyright law preempted Trump’s state law-based claims. He gave Trump until Aug. 18 to amend his complaint a third time.
    Oh, and it gets better.

A spokesperson for Trump’s legal team said in a statement: “In another biased action by a New York Court, this wrongful decision was issued without even affording President Trump the basic due process of a hearing. We will continue to ensure that those who commit wrongdoing against President Trump and all Americans are held accountable.”
He didn't even get a hearing. Their case was nonexistant. It really was "because I said so" and no other reason. Also, can't help but revel in the irony that he claims he was denied due process while masked faceless ICE agents round people up without warrants and lose them in someone else's country.

Trump's mouth, as shown time and time and time and time and time and time.....and time again, is his own worst enemy. I figure, and could easily be wrong here, by the end of the year, there will be a decent sized subset of the MAGA movement basically wanting nothing to do with Trump and break off and do their own thing lead by Elon.

As I said at the beginning of this nonsense, at the beginning of this administration, Trump only cares about Trump. He will be the cause of his own downfall. More and more people that supported him will either want to have nothing to do with him OR actually turn on him.

There was the post above saying "Could Trump be the new Reagan?". As far as mental state, most likely. But Reagan actually had friends and people who cared about him. Trump has only Trump. He literally has no friends of any kind.

The “secrets” from Trump aren’t particularly hidden. They’re right out there, in the open.

Though you are right about the “we had to vote for him cuz da dems wuz worse” justification, I’m sure.

That's what the entire four years from 2020-2024 was doing. You remember all of the investigations, court appearances, top secret documents spread all over Mar-a-Lago? That all disappeared from the public attention the minute Trump won. I am still waiting for Jack Smith to release his findings/report.

    WYM?

For those 4 years the conservashits kept saying the election was rigged and Trump should be POTUS. They didn't give a fuck about any of this shit. They didn't fall off the face of the earth like Bush voters.

The only reasons the conservashits even turned on Dubya is cause he left the country in a financial crisis. Trump will have to go out in 2028 in a similar economic dumpster fire for them to turn on him(this is ofc 100% possible with this moron).

Bush somehow got MORE popular after starting 2 forever wars and won the popular vote in 2004 which he did not in 2000. People really overrate how much anything else matters to people other than their own financial security. If Bush doesn't leave the office after starting the great recession conservashits would revere him like Reagan.

Like you have to survive the dumpster fire in order to make good changes.

Hoo boy, this is a bad one.

Luis Leon, 82, was on his way to the Philadelphia immigration office to get his lost green card replaced. Lost. Not revoked, not expired, lost. Okay? Just so we're clear on his legality.

Upon arrival, he was handcuffed and led away without explanation.

That was June 20th. The article was published July 18th. Until that time, the family had little idea what had happened to him.

Repeated inquiries to immigration officials, prisons, hospitals and even a morgue yielded no information. Leon’s name was not in ICE’s online database of detainees.
Days later, someone claiming to be a lawyer called his wife (also a legal immigrant) and said Leon could be bailed out. That would normally require some kind of arrest record, which did not exist. When asked how she'd learned about the case, the caller refused to answer. Then, later, that same caller claimed that Leon had died.

Now, this woman was never identified, and quite honestly, was likely an unrelated scam artist. Trump attracts bad actors, such as trolls, pedophiles, and terrorists, but I don't think this was someone on his direct payroll, just the kind of racist hate-mongering cultists he attracts on purpose.

ICE, and other agencies, during this time, provided nothing. They did not even confirm Leon was in Philadelphia, which again, he objectively was. Even when asked to confirm or deny his death, they refused. Until July 18th, where they were finally notified Leon was in a Guatemala hospital, which is leagues better than being dead, but when you're 82, have diabetes, and were thrown out of the hospital with no phone and no money. Near as I can tell, he was held in US or US-arranged custody and kept from communicating with his family. Even, again, even when his family had been told Leon died.

"Surely this Leon was a known dangerous criminal! One of those Mexican rapists, or a mental patient thrown into the US by a foreign government, that I have to convince myself are everywhere lest I give in to basic human empathy!"

    No.

Leon was granted political asylum in 1987 after surviving torture at the hands of Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet’s regime, according to his granddaughter, Nataly, who asked that her surname not be used because she fears U.S. government retribution against her and her relatives.
Leon has no criminal record, not even parking tickets. And he is not alone.

the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, which gathers data on federal immigration enforcement, says the vast majority of people in ICE detention as of July 13 — 40,643 out of 56,816, or 71.5% — have no criminal convictions.
If Trump only evicted criminals, he would not get the numbers he wants. As a reminder, Leon had a valid green card on file, it's just that his physical copy was lost.

Hey @Edge- what do we say about cruelty around here?

I mean, under normal circumstances the US government disappearing a lawful resident would be a fucking scandal.

But it's just another in the nonstop stories of abject, white supremacist cruelty.
