I think the better question is who will be able to tell? the press has accepted Trump's insane rants and behavior and his supporters have selective hearing. So, the following should be pretty much a slam dunk in getting a grand jury indictment, right? Not if you are working in U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro's office.

An Indiana woman was supposedly making death threats on social media AND to Secret Service agents to kill Trump, if it came to it. Something that should basically be extremely easy to get an indictment for. Well, according to said grand jury:

A federal grand jury has refused to indict an Indiana woman accused of threatening to kill President Donald Trump, another sign of a growing backlash against Trump's law enforcement crackdown in the nation's capital.

Nathalie Rose Jones was arrested on Aug. 16 in Washington, D.C., on charges that she made death threats against Trump on social media and during an interview with Secret Service agents.

But a grand jury composed of Washington residents refused to indict her based on evidence presented by Justice Department prosecutors, according to her attorney, assistant federal public defender Mary Manning Petras.

“Given that finding, the weight of the evidence is weak,” Petras wrote in a court filing. “The government may intend to try again to obtain an indictment, but the evidence has not changed and no indictment is likely.”

It is extraordinarily rare for a grand jury to refuse to return an indictment, but that has happened in other cases prosecuted by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro's office since Trump ordered a surge in patrols by federal agents and troops in the District of Columbia.

A grand jury refused to indict a government attorney who was facing a felony assault charge for throwing a “sub-style” sandwich at a Customs and Border Protection agent — a confrontation captured on a viral video.

Three grand juries voted separately against indicting a woman accused of assaulting an FBI agent outside the city’s jail in July, where she was recording video of the transfer of inmates into the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

A grand jury also rejected an indictment against a man who was arrested on an assault charge by a U.S. Park Police officer with the assistance of National Guard members.

Grand jury proceedings are secret, so the reasons for their decisions don't become public. But the string of rebukes has fueled speculation that residents serving on grand juries are using their votes to protest against the White House's surge.

“Grand juries, judges, we will not simply go along with the flow,” U.S. Magistrate Judge Zia Faruqui said during a hearing last week for a surge-related criminal case.

A spokesperson for Pirro's office didn't immediately respond to an email seeking comment. Pirro posted a comment on Jones' case two days after her arrest.

“Threatening the life of the President is one of the most serious crimes and one that will be met with swift and unwavering prosecution. Make no mistake — justice will be served,” Pirro wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Prosecutors said Jones, 50, of Lafayette, Indiana, posted a Aug. 6 message on Facebook that she was “willing to sacrificially kill this POTUS by disemboweling him and cutting out his trachea.” When Secret Service agents questioned her on Aug. 15, Jones said she hoped to peacefully remove Trump from office but “will kill him out at the compound if I have to,” according to prosecutors. Jones was arrested a day later in Washington, where she joined a protest near the White House.

Petras said Jones repeatedly told Secret Service agents that she had no intent to harm anyone, didn't own any weapons and went to Washington to peacefully protest.

I'll always find it hilarious (and sad) that MAGA will always insist that January 6th and the fake electors scheme were not attempts to overturn the election results. Then you can simply ask why they hate Mike Pence and why he was kicked to the curb, and their position becomes completely indefensible.

Well, given that a judge recently found deploying the National Guard into LA was unlawful, you get the fun little point that "I was following what turned out to be an illegal order" is not considered an actual legal defense.

Because you're supposed to refuse unlawful orders.

So charge every single chucklefuck National Guard who showed up in LA. Every. Single. Fucking. One. From privates on up. Should be super fucking easy trials; "we have this decision that invalidated these orders. So why were you in LA?" "I was ordered to deploy." "Thanks you for the admission of guilt, we'll move on to sentencing".

Doesn't have to be for a lot. Just enough to justify dishonorably discharging them and putting a felony conviction on their record, and all the joy that brings to one's life.

The courts literally today told him he could not. I think Trump is baiting Baltimore to throw the NG out, causing an incident. Honestly, I think they should. Spend 2 days in front of every camera saying "What Trump is doing is demonstrably illegal, and we're asking openly and publicly that he and the armed forces obey the law and the Constitution they've sworn to protect. After that, any federal government payment for food and lodging paid to Baltimore establishments will be garnished as evidence, and we will provide free lifts for any NG members to the Amtrak station so they can return to DC." I mentioned the BAH discrepancy before, that NG members are being paid lower amounts because Trump is cheaping out. If they can't even use that, and have to use their own money for food and lodging, that'll sour their mood real quick. No way will any NG member expect to be reimbursed by Trump.

Flat-out arresting them would be completely fair, but Trump is basically asking for a reason to send in more troops. It would have to be done very carefully, most likely (again) by announcing the seeking of warrants on live public camera. "Everyone, we have the court ruling right here, it very specifically says the NG occupation is illegal. We asked nicely, we asked politely, you left us no choice. By the way, we're starting with the commanding officers. Anyone lower in the ranks has some time to think about their options."

In a logical world, this would not be provocative. Trump is the one blatantly breaking the law here. If the troops willingly knowingly follow illegal orders, arresting them should not be at all dramatic. Which is why the arrests should also be done with a pair of plainclothes officers, preferably old ones, not a full-on SWAT team. And fifty cameras. Make it clear who shot who and who shot first.

What do you do with the people that are exploiting the situation in a different way. The sons of the current secretary of commerce started a model where they offer struggling companies some money to deal with the increased prices from tariffs in return for the rights of reimbursement of these tariffs incase that were ever to happen (if it were ruled illegal, which already happened in some places). The money they pay them will surely be a lot less then the tariffs they'll end up paying and if this order has run it's course in the courts and is ruled illegal, or is overturned once someone else is in power. It's these assholes who'll end up raking in a lot of the money. It's daylight robbery.

Nobel Prize-Winning Economist Raises Alarm Over Trump Fed Attacks

In his Substack post, Krugman wrote: "Politicians may abuse monetary policy for short-run political gain. … Politicians may take economic advice from cranks who tell them what they want to hear. Trump epitomizes both dangers."

He said the U.S. looked like it would soon be experiencing mild stagflation, when unemployment and inflation rates were both too high.

Krugman said that would pose a dilemma for the Fed because raising interest rates could increase unemployment while cutting them could worsen inflation.

Yeah, the Fed needs to do both. Simply put, right now, jobs are fine while inflation is high. That's probably a good reason for a middle ground, not fucking cutting three points off.

Generally, and particularly in such a situation, it is important for the Fed to be independent, Krugman said, adding that "independence limits the scope for irresponsible policy."

The Nobel winner described the president's desire to cut interest rates as "crazy and irresponsible."

"A Trump takeover at the Fed would cause long-term rates to rise rather than fall," Krugman wrote.

"It's important to protect the independence of the Fed in order to assure the stability of the economy and financial markets," he said.

That's leaving aside other issues, such as "If the USA can just make its interest rates whatever it wants, nobody would ever buy US debt."

I'm not sure I've seen any Nobel Prize earning economists saying the Fed should be biased or partisan. Maybe someone else has, but I haven't.
