He was immediately told "It's an American flag."

Now it's highly unlikely Trump, or anyone, saw a flag and thought "I needed a flag that I could display as a flag specifically at night." The WH has flags, large ones, on display at all times (illuminated, even though 4 U.S. Code § 8 actually does not spell out anything about night/darkness.

This leaves two options:

1) Trump recognized it as a flag but still thought it was a blanket, a sign of disrespect, and pledged to use it, furthering that disrespect. Or possibly a sheet, if he saw the thickness of the fabric, but that's just as bad.

2) Trump didn't recognize the American flag when he saw it, thinking it was a non-flag decorative blanket.

Incidentally, the WH probably also has blankets, but this is still more likely than the "display at night" option.

Obviously, I am going with option number 2, befitting Trump. Considering the years of his disrespect for objective facts and evidence, it would make sense the senile, retarded, sick old man couldn't even recognize the symbol of the country he claims to love.

So Bessent did what no Team Trump member should ever do, go in front of the press and attempt to answer questions.

It went as well as expected.

They are “smart,” in the sense that they know Trump is easily manipulated. They wish to curry his favor and get people on the inside of his random flailing to try and keep them ahead of it.

Their “intelligence” does not extend to “backbone.”
