“Do not lose time on daily trivialities. Do not dwell on petty detail. For all of these things melt away and drift apart within the obscure traffic of time. Live well and live broadly. You are alive and living now. Now is the envy of all of the dead.” ~ Emily3, World of Tomorrow
Words to live by.
On this day in history, Oct 18th, 2025, Trump still hasn't released the Epstein Files.

These protests look huge!
Nice to see such a support for democracy in a Hate America march. Also these people look much less violent than the walking tour of Jan 6th. Strange that.

My whole political stance pretty much boils down to "I care about other people and the planet" and wow does that make some people mad.
https://abc7.com/post/5-freeway-shut...says/18032168/
Sorry, but this isn't "a celebration", this is open intimidation.A 17-mile stretch of the 5 Freeway will be shut down Saturday because of a demonstration involving live ammunition in celebration of the U.S. Marine Corps 250th anniversary at Camp Pendleton.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the closure will impact both sides of the freeway from Harbor Drive in Oceanside to Basilone Road near San Onofre. It will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
In a statement, the CHP said the military event will involve "live ammunition being discharged by the federal government over the freeway."
In addition to the heavy traffic delays that are expected, there will be no Amtrack service between Orange and San Diego counties during the freeway closure.
I'm not sure if there's precedent for this, and it seems, like everything, rushed and not communicated or prepared for well -
Remember when Republicans lost their minds over a "federal invasion" of Texas that was literally a routine training exercise not involving fire live ammunition over an active, busy freeway? But the state was asked Friday to put signage along the freeway that read "Overhead fire in progress," according to a statement from Gov. Gavin Newsom's office. Early Saturday morning, the federal government informed the state that the live fire activities were scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
This continues to be fascist shit and fascists usually end up at the end of a rope or with a bullet in them, in history.
There is literally no reason whatsoever to ever use live rounds for a demonstration, unless specifically it's a demonstration of marksmanship, and any such demo would be done at a proper shooting range.
Speaking as someone who's literally taken part in a surprising number of live shooting demos ("live" as in "we're doing this live for an audience", not "live ammo"). In fact, it's basic standard practice to actively avoid ever using live ammunition in such events, not even having it available where someone might be handed the wrong kind of ammunition. Same as it would be on a film set.

I think the AMTRAK closure was already planned for tracks maintenance. I-5 closure would be a pain. In the past, when they had live ammunition from ship to land demo, they would use San Clemente Island which is the officially designated target for that. I don't think the Marine has ever conducted ship to land demo using Camp Pendleton site as target.

Instead of sending National Guard to Portland, Chicago and San Francisco, maybe, just maybe, they should go to Alaska or Arizona.
What we know about the devastating storm in Western Alaska
State of emergency declared in wake of powerful microburst that left miles of damage in Arizona
Looks like the No Kings Rally has been massively successful. Members of The Cult have taken to crying in news station comment sections about the use of AI crowds proving that like their leader, they have a terrible problem with size.

I watch them fight and die in the name of freedom. They speak of liberty and justice, but for whom? -Ratonhnhaké:ton (Connor Kenway)
what's our definition of "success" in this instance?
i have to admit i kind of this see as an indication it's a massive failure.Members of The Cult have taken to crying in news station comment sections about the use of AI crowds proving that like their leader, they have a terrible problem with size.
a number of people have proven they'll stand around and bitch about not liking the government, sure - uh, happy solidarity day?
the republicans in office aren't going to see this and go "oh shit people don't like us we better change our ways", and people who vote for republicans aren't going to see this and go "oh shit people don't them we better change our voting habits".
the democrats in office aren't going to see this and go "oh shit people don't like us we better change our ways", and people who vote for democrats aren't going to see this and go "oh shit democrats are doing nothing we better change our voting habits".
so like, what exactly has any of this accomplished other than a nationwide circle-jerk of back-patting?
and don't get me wrong circle-jerks are nice and all, everyone gets a little something on both ends, but we've known that republicans don't give a shit when liberals protest since at least the early 60s and we've also known for thousands of years that nothing changes from peaceful protests if the people in charge don't give a shit about your peaceful protest.

i feel pretty confident in absolutely assuring you that the 8 people in the US who didn't vote for harris over her position on palestine were utterly irrelevant compared to the millions of people who didn't vote for harris because she's not-white and female.
i think you're barking up the wrong hill on that one.

Protests need to actually be disruptive for a fascist regime to care about it. This just makes an easy target list for later.

"Millions of people turned out in protests in every state, from small towns to big cities!"
"Yeah, but it won't do anything, so who cares."
This level of doomerism is really fucking tiring, you know that?

No I am genuinely curious what you think this protest accomplishes. I really want to know. Does doing 2 protests (that actually get televised and shown widely) for 3-4 hours each 4 months apart put pressure on a government that has been routinely disappearing people, destroying federal institutions, tearing down and outright threatening to remove constitutional rights from its own citizens? Protests of this magnitude need to be consistently happening, not just when its convenient.
For whom it may concern, here's your umpteenth reminder that 115k people flipping their vote from Trump to Harris (or 230k who "stayed home" coming in to vote for Harris instead) could have changed the result of the 2024 election.
We've almost never needed "millions" of people more to effect a drastic change in the direction of this country; any swing of sentiment is an encouraging sign, even if it's nowhere near worth a "we did it, we beat fascism!"

"millions of people went outside to wank in every state, from small towns to big cities!"
"and now US politics isn't dominated by a christofascist death cult that has been systematically infecting US society for the last 60 years with zero pushback from any segment of society be it official or unofficial!"
this level of denialism is really fucking tiring, you know that?

If your bar is "this protest in and of itself must have an immediate, direct, measurable result" then I don't think any protest ever is going to clear that.

"One single protest didn't immediately end fasicsm, so fuck protesting it's garbage."
