You need to rule in a connection, by demonstrating at least some kind of correlation (which is not causation, but we're not talking about the directionality of cause and both being connected to a third thing or something more complex is always an option).

I don't think any reasonable person expected this to turn into a shouting match; at worst it was gonna be an attempted dressing down.
