US corporate bankruptcies set to hit 15-year high amid credit jitters, S&P data shows

While the full impact of U.S. President Donald Trump's shifting tariff policies remains uncertain, businesses are already feeling the strain from rising input costs. That is further squeezing lower-income consumers who continue to grapple with sticky inflation and a faltering labor market.
The industrials sector leads insolvency claims this year with 98 filings, reflecting its exposure to potential supply-chain disruptions from the tariffs.
That was followed by consumer discretionary companies with 80 bankruptcies so far this year.
A wave of recent credit concerns has put the multi-trillion-dollar global credit market under the spotlight, with risks extending to several high-profile financial institutions, including major Wall Street banks and regional lenders.
Do you mean to tell me the guy who is the bankrupt king is bankrupting the country? who could have seen that coming /s

Somehow, I am not surprised at that. Libertarians tend not to be big on facts and how things work.

I had a discussion with one who honestly believed monopolies only exist because of government regulations; and when I pointed out that monopolies existed in markets prior to regulation thought what I said made no sense.

I am just tired of how many people do not care for facts; whatever they believe to be true is true and no evidence will convince them otherwise. "Trump is donating is presidential salary!" And when you point out that 1) there been no evidence since his second year in his first term he did and 2) in his second term he's enriched himself by at least 5 billion dollars (that we know of) ... they will bring up Pelosi or Biden or Obama and say why it is okay for them to do it.

At this point I just kind of think of the maga cult as the perpetual goalpost motion party

(And to be fair democrats also move the goalposts a whole heckin ton, but given the sheer open faced corruption on one side, I frankly don't care right now, but I'll care again once they're in power )

JD Vance uses Campbells soup fiasco as an instruction manual.

Vice President Vance on Wednesday invoked President Trump’s “America First” policy, joking that because Thanksgiving is a U.S. holiday, the meat of choice is also “uniquely” American: Turkey.

“Think about turkey. Who really likes … be honest with yourself, who really likes turkey?” Vance told troops on Wednesday during remarks from Fort Campbell, Ky. “You are all full of s—. Everybody who raised your hands.”

“Here’s how I know that every single one of you who raised your hand is lying to me. How many times do you roast an 18-pound turkey just randomly? Just you know, a nice summer afternoon, we’re going to go get an 18-pound turkey.”

“Nobody does it because turkey doesn’t actually taste that good. But on Thanksgiving, one of the most American holiday … we’re going to cook a turkey by God, because that’s what Americans do,” he told the crowd. “We cook this gigantic American bird and we do all kinds of crazy things to make it taste good.”

The vice president, who noted he plans to deep fry a Turkey for his meal on Thursday, added later that “chicken is good all the time.”
When asked about cold cuts, Vance replied "I don't listen to hip hop".

I have no idea what the Campbell's Soup fiasco is, but this is so stupid. How out of touch do you have to be to not understand why cooking an 18lbs turkey isn't a common thing to do...

We have to cut corners to make more money. Use sawdust and raccoon testicles as filler. Now we can raise the price due to Reasons.

    Then:

Our soup tastes like shit, it's for poor people.

Ahh Vance, you somehow can outdumb even Trump. And that takes skill.

There is one main reason why people don't randomly buy turkey all year around. It is because, as far as poultry goes, it is the most expensive choice of meat there is. It also takes hours to cook so it literally is one of the longest cooking times of pretty much any meat there is if all you are doing is putting it in the oven.

As far as the farming side goes, you literally get far less out of it compared to chickens and the like even seeing as a turkey takes up FAR MORE SPACE than any other type of bird that isn't something like an ostrich.

I personally love turkey. I would love to eat it more often. But it literally costs while on sale about $2.50/lb at a minimum and can easily go up from there. And I would also have to buy it in frozen bird form, so that would mean I would need a good week to thaw it properly, a good 3 hours at a minimum for a smaller bird(we are talking an 8 pounds bird). And with a turkey, on average, about half of the weight is in meat. The rest is in bone or other things that may or may not be edible.

Fun fact: The store I work at charged $0.69/lb for a Butterball frozen turkey(Limit 1 per card member(no, it isn't Costco or other paid membership clubs)), normal sale price $2.29/lb for any extras. That is frozen. Fresh was literally $1.00 more per pound and sale. Why? Because when it comes to fresh, you are on a time limit. You have about a good week before you must deal with it. Otherwise, turkeys can easily be, at where I work at, $2.50/lb or greater frozen, $5/lb fresh when not on sale. And this is the type of turkey that is basically pumped up with hormones to give it bigger breast meat and pretty much cannot walk without breaking its legs. Go a more humane and more natural route and that price skyrockets from what was said above.

Now tell me Vance, would you pay those prices on a regular basis knowing that you have to actively start preparing it earlier in the day and have to wait hours before being able to eat? I know I wouldn't outside of things like a stew or something that I purposefully wanted to slow cook.

Another fun fact: According to Vance's logic, chicken must also taste like shit because it and turkey taste the exact same when not seasoned.

Vance thinks everyone hates turkey because he is a bland doofus. He probably whines about people using seasonings too. The type of guy who thinks mayo is spicy.

I feel like if he said this during an open mic night he might get some laughs with this, but as the VP speaking to troops this is beyond awkward.

    Could be worse.

Jesus man, it impresses me how the entire world can bare their doughnuts and softball everything to these dickheads, and they still manage to fumble the ball.

You're doing a Thanksgiving speech? Here's how it goes:

"Turkey is super American, so loving turkey is ths most American thing you can American on the most American holiday of Thanksgiving! So who here loved turkey!?"
    *everyone raises their hands*
    "Damn right! Because we're Americans!"

Fuck how can they be so incompetant as to fumble this kind of holiday messaging?

It’s really par the course; One of the low-key most infuriating things about this administration is how obviously idiotic and bad at this they are to anyone even paying even the slightest bit of attention.

I was always under the impression lizard people were all supposed to be hyper intelligent(relative to humans, not lizards, but I suppose thats not much of a higher bar).

But Vance is exactly what you get when you groom a poor boy to be a rich mans puppet, but dont actually let him into the rich people club. He just looks like an obvious puppet.

Like, we all can imagine Bezos or Musk saying this stupid shit, because theyre so disconnected from reality they legitimately dont get it.

But Vance was groomed to be their mouthpiece. The ONE JOB he had is convincing the masses to buy his rich overlords bullshit, and he cant even do that right.
