No they have always been "Pro-Life" you just missed the asterisk next to Pro-Life. Where it basically boils down to Pro-Life pertaining from the moment the sperm meets the egg to the birth of the fetus. Any time before and/or after said period are not covered by said Pro-Life protections.

Donald Trump will be directly responsible for the deaths of hundreds/thousands at that point. Not just one scared idiot who thought it was a good idea to look to Trump for medical advice.

Politically, this is FANTASTIC for Democrats.

But morally, this is abhorrent and I hope nobody listens to him. It's not worth the risk.

Found this amusing though. I guess some conservatives have decided to write their own Bioshock-esque diary entries after a whopping 4 days couped up?

And it's not even good, even with the theological angle introduced.

Though pearl clutching about "saving lives" is sure a strange look for someone I imagine is in the anti-abortion crowd.

I guess the economy is more important than lives and fetuses.

I love that the House/Senate/SecTreas are negotiating this deal, completely ignoring Trump's daily rallies pressers, and doing what is generally good for the country.

Initially, they have some diversity of opinion as new facts come to light and then they all eventually fall in line behind the command and control structure that is the conservative mind meld.

In the beginning, I saw a lot of what I think most people assumed was mainline conservative thinking: that the virus wasn’t a big deal; that it was just another H1N1 and we should just ignore it.

But, there was a second group that more closely aligned with this new Trump/Dan Patrick thinking. The comments I heard went something like this, “This is going to sound bad, but 2% really isn’t that many people and it’s mostly old people anyway. They’ve lived a good life. Overpopulation is a major problem and it will also help with social security.”

I’m writing in because I fear we are treating this as a more fringe idea than it actually is. I don’t think this is Trump reacting to his properties being forced to close or to a Fox News segment he saw. I think this has serious legs. …

It’s part Ebeenezer Scrooge morality; part inability/unwillingness to comprehend the scope of horror coronavirus is capable of inflicting on us. Of course, implicit in their thinking is that it won’t affect them.

We must be clear-eyed about what we’re up against. These people absolutely do not give a shit if 2.2 million people die. And they lack the imagination to understand what exceeding our hospital bed capacity by 30X looks like.

I really don’t think this is Trump sending out a trial balloon by himself. This is mainline Republican thinking and we should act accordingly."

The thought process where they get to it being ok that 2-3% of our population dies in order to keep the economy going is sickening. And the complete ignorance that it won't affect their family...I can't even. The mentality Trump has fully affirmed in the United States really makes me wonder if we'll ever recover. Even if Trump loses the election, he'll keep speaking out, carrying that thought process.

The White House is apparently pushing for price transparency in the upcoming bill, in their ongoing stand against hoarding and gouging.

    "What's wrong with that?"

Nothing. People should know what their treatment will cost. For example...

    (puts on sunglasses)

If someone lies to the entire nation that their treatment will be covered by insurance, when that's not the truth, they should be singled out and taken to task for it.

    (walks away from an explosion)

No reasonable person expected him to prevent the pandemic, what people did expect is for him to take fucking basic precautions like ordering test kits from the WHO months ago when the WHO offered to supply them. Trump was too fucking stupid to understand that a pandemic was a possible outcome of COV1D-19, and as a result he chose to not prepare for it. Now we have states playing catch-up on everything because our POTUS has the foresight of a goldfish and an inability to accept facts that he dislikes. The federal government is in various stages of "deciding whether or not to act" and "playing catch-up". Trump still can't see beyond the next 10 minutes, he is still in the "needs to be convinced that this pandemic a very real crisis" category of people.

His current response is just as bad as his initial response. Claiming that he is doing a good job with his response is ignorant at best, or otherwise outright delusional. I doubt he understands that there is a disturbing possibility of this virus trending into the millions (in the USA alone), and the death toll can easily rise into the hundreds of thousands(once again, in the USA alone) if we decide to just pretend there isn't a pandemic occurring.

His suggestion of having people just carry on as normal is insane or insanely stupid; there is no positive way to interpret any of the bullshit coming from the POTUS unless you're a fan of ignoring facts.

Since near as I can tell, no one posted it

Galveston and Harris(Houston,Tx and its sprawl) Counties have enacted mandatory shelter in place orders

So despite the Lt. Gov asking grandparents to accept the risk for their kids can work sooner, the Counties and Mayors aren't having ANY of that bullshit

That said, since oil & gas are Essential Critical Infrastructure, alot of tangental companies are going to remain open anyways.
I think Im just going to drive with THIS playing as I commute

Is that what we're calling it now? "Not up to par"? So now we're downplaying his downplaying?

You're right, it was going to reach us, but based off of past major viruses/illnesses there was clearly better action that could be taken, which we saw for each of those issues. Trump did a whole bunch of shit wrong and to say it was "under par" is a lame attempt at best and stupid's second cousin at worse.

So your rich then I assume. Or naïve? Or you just expect things to go back to normal soon. Which is it. What are your thoughts on how this will all play out? I laid out mine. We are headed back to 1929 if we don't bail out big business and the working class.
Nope, not rich. I have plenty of money for the next year and food for the next few months, easily, without buying anything, 'cause I prepare for random shit, and because I don't want to carry 60+ pounds of groceries home when shit hits the fan. I saved for a new car, but I know it's stupid to spend it and have nothing, so I needed to save more than that. I'm actually far more prepared than my roommates, where two don't have a job, and the other still has their first fast food job.

How this will play out? It'll be a couple months of panic, but that will die down and the hoarding will mostly stop, then I'm sure another month of panic as the disease comes back, and then followed by general blase attitude about it until a anti-viral medication and/or vaccine is made and then the issue will go away. The economic hit might become a boom after this is all done and people can get back to work, but with wages how they still are that boom won't mean much.
