    Question FF XIV Crafting Questions

I know Disciplines of the Land are the gathering jobs & Disciplines of the Hand are the production jobs but is there a limit on how many of those you can have or is it like the classes where you can literally be anything as long as you have trained to be it & switch classes? Also can someone please explain the secondary stats on gear that I come across? Not just the profession gear but the gameplay gear.

You can max all the DoH/DoL classes, and for best effect in crafting you kinda need to max them all for the cross-class skills. There are plenty of optimization and leveling guides out there to help you get started. The only limits you run into for crafting come into how many desynths you can max and what specialists you can have active at a given time.

rather than max, you need them to 50. I can't recall if there was anything game breaking after that point if you weren't interested in leveling them all.

On the flipside, once they're all 50, going to 60 is butt-easy thanks to Moogle dailies. I expect around 4.3 we'll end up with Namazu dailies for crafting.

I wasn't patient enough to just do that and gc, so I spent quite a bit of money getting to 60, but 60-70 was super easymode.

Also something to keep in mind is in order to actually do all this crafting and gathering you need to not have a job irl to actually find the bloody time.

It depends how much you play on any given day and how much idle time you have during that playing. If you're sitting in a DPS queue for daily roulettes, that's a great time to do some leveling for DoH/DoL. Do some Ixal/Moogle dailies, some gathering leves/collectibles, work on GC turn-ins. Yeah, it's time-consuming, but so is leveling anything in this game.

Side note since this popped back up - if you see the daily turn in for your GC is a star'd item for a crafting you're actively leveling, it may be worth it to spend the 100k or whatever to buy a HQ one off the market board and turn in. They can get you almost half a level.

I did this even when I wasn't actively crafting, just because it was so much bonus xp.

I have in the past, but in Stormblood, the prices sometimes make me think twice. Leves benefit from HQ turn ins as well and sometimes I just didn't want to spend 150k-200k for a GC turn in item.

I was buying a lot of SB turn-ins from the gear vendors just to be cheap, cos I wasn't in that big a hurry (I'd also sunk a good chunk into Leve turn-ins and was using them as well). Also, make sure you do your weekly Crafting Log. Cheesing it with low-end crafts you can do with vendor mats is good for the 'make item' turn-ins, and buy cheap vendor gear and materia to fuse for the other one.

Ahhh, forgot about the vendor-leve turn in option!
