At present it is 1080p, but with a new screen I am aiming for 1440p.

unless you're playing something like quake 3, this is unlikely to happen.

1080p/144hz might be more realistic with that budget, might be turning some graphics down on newer games? unless you can find a 1070 for £250!

what games are you hoping to play?

Thought 1440 @ 144 hz is easily achievable.

I will return to WoW when 7.3.5 launches, other games I am playing currently are Shadow Warrior 2, Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun and The New Colossus.

Not looking too much into future, some games like Warhammer Vermintide or Ancestors, has caught my eyes.

It's not. Noy even a gtx 1070 can achieve it in all games. I have to lower gfx option on some games to achieve 1440p@144Hz.

If you want to be sure to run all games 1440p@144Hz you are going to have to get a gtx 1080

    1080p @ 144hz then!

Ryzen 5 1600 seems quite reasonably priced. Any suggestions for MB?

That depends. Most people do not need a 6 core 12 thread cpu (R5 1600) unless you are doing video editing, cad or the like. A i3 8350 or i5 8600 is plenty. You get what you pay for, if wow is your main game then intel should be your priority.

If not, then by all means get a R5 1600

Only thing I dread most about Intel CPU's are, that installing the water cooling bracket is an absolute pain!

On that note, R5 1600x vs. i5 8400 or 7600 seems to be in the same price range.

Why did you suggest i5 8600?
