during alpha/beta buffs and debuffs were shown above your hero portrait, just like in WoW. i could see their duration, for example raynors inspire.
what happened to it ? why did blizzard get rid of it ? duration seems pretty important to me
ive checked all options and there is no way to turn it on

They removed it a very long time ago in the name of reducing cluttering. Over time it's been replaced with various effects on your nameplate and your character itself.
