It's easy to say, "well women should make good movies then!!" but the thing is, big studios in Hollywood simply do not give big directing jobs to women. They consider it a risk not worth taking. It's dominated by a small group of people who all know each other and breaking into that ring is very difficult. It's an old boys club, essentially.
Now, I'm not some bleeding heart feminist, and I often roll my eyes when I hear "but the wage gap hurr durr!" but actually, in the case of the film industry, it really is much harder for a woman to succeed.
Oh, you poor oppressed males!
You're sad because life is tough for everyone, yet you're wasting your time crying about this? This is what a man is these days? "Boo Hoo. Some celeb was mean to men."
The best generation is upon us!
Women aren't incapable of being construction workers, or truck drivers, or sewer cleaners, or welders, or farm hands, or firefighters. Yet people like you will say, "maybe they don't want to do those things!" while completely ignoring the fact that young girls are taught that those are jobs for boys.
Oh, that's "conspiracy thinking", right? Look back 20 years and try to find me examples of toy ads where girls are playing with Tonka trucks, toy power tools, dressed up like a firefighter? Or ads where boys are playing with Barbies, toy baby dolls, or using a hairdresser set? When boys and girls play "business", who is the boss and who is the secretary?
Societal norms have changed a lot, and there's much more hope for children growing up in a - thankfully - now more progressive society, but we are also still living within a societal framework with roots that go back to the 1950s.
When you have an industry, like Hollywood, with people who have been around since a time when women weren't socially allowed to wear pants in public, where sexual harassment was perfectly acceptable (note: Weinstein), and where women were expected to take roles supporting males, how can you be so obtuse to think that this is all just some SJW make-believe fever dream?
There isn't some biologically baked-in difference that makes women more interested in cosmetology yet less interested in truck driving or construction. They are human beings, homo sapiens.
I never said anything about "evil people", that's your own ignorance as to why society acts in the way it does. The disparity most certainly exists because males for centuries have conditioned their progeny into the image they want to see society in.
Nursing is a great example of how the conditioning is played out. Women are restricted by and large to nursing, yet their numbers dwindle when you reach doctoral specializations. I guess they aren't wired for the arduous man-learning it takes to become a doctor.
There's no evil or good, just insecurities and the unilateral voice males have had in our society.

Not really. Misogynists and racists have been using the same arguments against blacks and women for centuries.
It's actually amazing that anyone would argue that "women just need to direct better movies" after the whole Weinstein fiasco that's dominated the news. Since when has merit ever mattered when it comes to producing movies? Hollywood is notoriously sexist and oligarchic and always has been.
- Christopher HitchensPopulists (and "national socialists") look at the supposedly secret deals that run the world "behind the scenes". Child's play. Except that childishness is sinister in adults.
ok, so why don't the female leads of hollywood put their money where the mouth is refuse to star in any movie not directed by a female, and do those roles at a reduced costs, go start in female directed indi films for free to help them get their names out there. put up or shut up basically.

It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shakes, the shakes become a warning.

We don't allow gender threads on these forums, as seen by this thread, they tend to just get far too hostile and no one's going to budge on their opinion.
Closing this on that note.
