I play for fun in all modes. I also try to win in all modes. OTP don't go into games thinking "well I don't feel like winning today" They go in thinking "I'm going to win, with my favourite champ."

People that get butthurt at OTP's are generally bad players themselves, since they need to believe they are only losing because other people like playing a certain Champ.

This game DOES have a set game design. This game IS MEANT to be played with the hero swaps I described. This is not something you can argue, you can't argue with game design.

Sadly, you can avoid the game design by picking just 1 hero, but you can't possibly say that's what you should do. Like I said, you CAN but you SHOULD NOT. Going against the game design is wrong, regardless how you look at it.

And no, I don't care about how people play in casual, and I'm fine by people ignoring game design there.

But in competitive, where you play to win, and not for fun. (Yes you can find it fun, but the goal is to win, wether you enjoy it or not. Casual is the fun mode). And ignoring game design here completely destroys the game.
I don't need to argue with the game design. It's designed such that if anyone wants, they can play just one hero. It's in the game design, what stops you?

Competitive is just a different game mode, it doesn't force anyone or tell anyone that winning is more important than fun, the only difference is you're required to bet some SR to start a match. You're mixing up how the game is designed, and how you think it is designed. The game design allows you to OTP, it allows you to main.

You're still mixing up 'should' and 'I want them to because I prefer it this way'.

Well, hero picks determine a lot, even more than skill to be honest. When I see people picking Torbjörn on 2CP maps attack side, I just die on the inside a little. I try to talk to them and they say "cause I feel like it" and this just destroy the game completely, and I play at Diamond...

You should always have the mindset "what's a good pick for the team to win" rather than "what do I feel like today" for competitive. Sadly, Blizzard, casual as they are, have not made any guidelines for Competitive and has failed to make this a serious game mode.

I think we have different ideas about the word game design.

I mean how it's supposed to be played not how it can be played. YES, if it CAN be played a way, technically it's part of the game design.

But, if you do some research it's clear how the game is designed with hero picks and swaps. Some heroes counter others and if you get countered, you should repick to counter that in return. If you never swap, the other team can counter every single player in your team, and you litterally can't win.

Why do you think swapping hero even exist? It's intended, and part of what you SHOULD DO to optimize you chances to win.

Take any MOBA, like Blizzards other game Heroes of the Storm, here you can't swap hero, and you will have to work out a strategy with what you got and what the enemy got, but Overwatch doesn't work like that.

Same for the game Paladins, it's very much alike Overwatch, but here you can't swap hero at all. To counter the enemy, you instead "buy talents" ingame, to customize your character on the spot. You can enhance life, damage, movement etc.

If you do not buy the correct talents in Paladins, you are doomed! That is clearly part of the game's design. For Overwatch, we have hero swap INSTEAD of buying talents, and if you don't swap to counter, you are doomed as well. Clearly, this is therefore part of the game's core design.

I don't know which words to use, I'm not that fluent in english, but if I can try.

The game design allows you to pick anything to play the game.
The game design is ALSO created that you pick CERTAIN counter-heroes to WIN the game.

So in summary, the design means that if you want to WIN, then you should swap.

I think you overestimate the power of counter picking, and as such get mad at people who main/OTP. Remember, just play your best and stop blaming your teammates for your losses, then maybe you'll start having fun again!

oh you all butthurt kissless virgins
people that say '2-2-2 or feed', 'hanzo switch', 'pick mercy!!1' are truly the worst kind. and most probably aged 12-14 from team voice chat experience

its funny how sometimes perfect 222 meta team gets totally wrecked by a full troll team with 6 dps just because they play their favorite heroes.
i value personal skill over teamplay or being jack of all trades, master of none.

As someone who has played in Tourneys for actual Competitive Games. Nothing Blizzard could do could ever make Overwatch "Competitive" Mode a serious Game mode.

Overwatch is about as seriously competitive as Fantasy Baseball is compared to Real Baseball.

Not really, when you use it you mean "it's possible," not "it was designed for this."

It's the same as saying that I can buy a car and solely use it to live in it. It's allowed, doable, nobody should get on you for it. But it's not what the designer had in mind when they designed it.

Maybe I'm just really really tired of having half a team consisting of symmetra + hanzo + widowmaker for attacking. It's hard to not get frustrated when you know a game is a loss but it's already underway and nobody makes a switch to try and win.

I smell silver OTPs that blame their team for their losses.

In terms of time played and good performance you usually see something like this. I have seen people highly resistant to swapping and only swap when it is maybe too late, but OTP? No.

Also when you say "logic dictates" and claim that it is evidence you look like a buffoon. Especially in a context like this one, a game with hard counters.

Overwatch is not a game where you chose a main and stick with it. You should know as many heroes as possible, and at least be equally good with 1 hero from each category (excluding defence maybe).

To insta pick Genji would ruin for your team in many scenarios.
Unless you're in competitive, people can and will play whatever they feel like and that includes sticking with one character.

bad gameplay is fine... so long as people are aware it's bad. Like in Pokemon... you can take the fire types to the water gym... doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Even in comp they can do that since you cant be reported for one tricking anymore.
If you push a button that finds you a 'random group' and it gives you a random group of people with random skill and random knowledge then you have no right to complain that a 'random group' button did what it was designed to do. The fault lies in your inability to make friends to play with instead of relying on a button designed to be random. It is a 'random group' button, not a 'best of the best' button.
