Like, I don't exactly see how you can go from being a/an almost demigod, to just being an unknown lowly adventurer again.

We're all funneled into a new dimension, where we meet thousands of other 'heroes' (from other servers, lore-wise) and we're just cannon fodder in a new fight. Where these demigods from another world (ours) are just the bottom of the barrel dregs when it comes to power. Where your 135 billion AP weapon gets the message 'miss' when you attack.
