    I've got 24gb of ram but i've yet to see anything really use over 12-14gb, I think if you have tons of ram all it does is let programs be lazy with garbage collection. I think the only scenario that would see me use most of my ram atm is if i were running a modded minecraft server with a bunch of chunk loaders etc.
