Why Do You Refuse To Do Objectives?

Something that has not changed in BG's since they were released in 2005. If you aren't luck enough to have a premade and join a PUG, 3/4 of people flat out refuse to do objectives. Why? I know some of you are out there, explain it to me.

    1) "I just want to dps people" Ok, fine, can you please dps the damn flag carrier or his healer? Why do you need to attack some random and let the EFC run RIGHT by you?

    2) "Guarding a capture point is boring" Ok, fine. Can you please kill people at a point that is being attacked, or kill people on an enemy owned point and stop fighting on the road?

    3) "I just came in to test a spec, F--K you guys" Ok, great. See above.

First, I would like to ask why so many people refuse to do the objectives? Winning is good, and you can still have fun doing the objectives. Second, I propose changes. For example, WSG, if you have not hit the enemy flag carrier, hit someone healing the enemy flag carrier, healed your flag carrier, or healed someone hitting the enemy flag carrier, or carried the flag in the last two minutes, you get a debuff that begins to stack. If it stacks far enough, you get no honor, no reward, and can't que bgs for the next hour.

Tunnel visioning is a part of the problem, I assume. Something alone the lines of "you dared to attack me, so I'm gonna be chasing you for the next 15 minutes until I finally manage to kill you".

I spent some time pondering the question of how to automatically enforce good gameplay in another game (PvP but not WoW, and not MMO). I think that such automation is impossible without giving up too much freedom. It would just take away from creative teamplay strategies. We should just let everyone play the game in the way they want, however silly it looks to us.

Just a small example. If I'm the only healer on my team, some player attacks me in the middle of nowhere, and I decide to stop and fight them for 5 minutes instead of continuing to move towards my objective... Guess what, that enemy player is being really useful to their team (in spite of not meeting any of your criteria). I could be of a tremendous help to my team: healing the flag carrier or attacking/defending a capture point. But that player made me stop and tunnel vision trying to kill someone in a 1v1 fight as a healer.

Whatever rules you invent, there will be countless examples like the above where an MVP player will be considered useless for doing something seemingly unconventional.

    Because it is too rewarding.
Honor should not be awarded if too far from objectives.
A loss due to stupidity should not be awarding a team at all.
That may sound unfair to those who didn't opt for that, but the reality is losses will keep happening unless the reasons behind it are punished.

I always gets tons of kills while doing objectives. I always try to win. Which means doing objectives. But if you're this upset then just do rbg's?

Tbh I haven't done much bg's in Legion as 3v3 is much more fun.

Sometimes it's more fun to 1vX on the road. That was back when 1vX was possible for every class and random BGs gave no good rewards. Nowadays if you have the mental stamina to play legion PvP there's no point in doing anything but the objective.

I always play to win, but sadly others... don't.
I think a large part is also because so many people just fail to understand even the basics of a BG and pvp in general.

Let's cap a flag and try to win? No, let's just 7 vs 1 this guy over here, on the road instead.
    It's just so depressing sometimes...

I almost exclusively play BG's in 5 man pre-made groups these days and the experience is a 100X better.

Just like in the real world, most people are just clueless and the trick is to find others like yourself to work with.

Honestly wish they would either employ a no mans land debuff that you gain 0 honor and hks on people no where near objectives or just outright give you 0 hks and 0 honor if you lose.

Preferably the second option so the alliance can gtfo with their 2 min que times, guaranteed 2 healers per bg and being given 50% more honor because they are so unfortunate to have 2 minute que times vs my 15 minutes waiting to get thrown into a 10 dps group.

most people have a hive mentality in pvp
if ONE PERSON, regardless of skill moves to a point, or chases someone.. 9/10 majority of people will chase or follow them
defending is boring, at times, unless you know how to properly defend a base, an escort, etc

depends on the match, and the comp i am with, and seeing the overall skill of the team, if they look braindead.. well im not gonna play objectives cause they will have no idea how to maintain that gameplay

if players are communicating, i will properly play according to objectives

overall im pretty objective based gamer in bg's

the best thing is people who actually queue for bg's and are scared to pvp....

Well to be fair, most of the time winning or losing doesn't do anything in random BGs. It takes next to no time at all to get all your honor talents, and after that it's just a pointless increasing number that doesn't affect anything, so why should I care if we win or lose and not make my goal to have a good time fighting people instead?

This is an amazing point. Similarly I can't tell you how many times I've ran to the far corner of the map in WSG only to have 3 alliance chase me for 2+ minutes. I just essentially negated 3 people by myself for 2-3 minutes, which I consider a win for my team.

You do know that those 15 minute queue times you encounter are because no one on alliance is queuing, right? Take away that 50% honor bonus and even less people will queue on the alliance side, leaving you with even longer queues on horde.

As for the OP, apart from the essences and order hall quests relating to BG's, there's really no reason at all to strive to win a BG, the honor ga from winning or losing is barely any different, that's why very few people actually care and end up just mosh pitting the middle.

I only bother with PvP nowadays to get my essences and quests completed, so I play to win as that's the only way to get them done, but when I'm put in a situation the OP described, I'd rather they just have losses count for half a win for the sake of quest completion and the such, can't fix dumb players stuck in their way. If Jimmy Tunnelvision decides he's going to chase that warrior across the map for the rest of the game, you can guarantee that's what he's going to do.

You do know alliance have had 2 minute que times for YEARS without the enlistment bonus right?

It's hard to do BG objectives when you're not doing BGs at all.

Agreed, It is depressing, cause if they just wanna go for kills, go World PvP and rack up all you want, all day, have at it... But a BG has a goal aside from the kills, hence the reason the bloody flag is there!!!

As a tank, Defending in PvP is one of the funnest things you can do, not sure how fighting 3-4 guys at a time and winning is not fun lol.

I do rated pvp if i feel like tryharding. When I do bgs I just have fun killing stuff instead of listening to the 1200 players strats. I don't need the 870 piece anyway so yeah.
