I'm not sure why, amongst other things, this hasn't been mentioned yet, but with the possibility of a Quel'Thalas revamp, we might also see Magister Umbric become a main player, as he seeks to continue his research into Drathir's work and his mission to restore Quel'Thalas to the Alliance, in whose ideals he believes. I am expecting Magister Umbric to become a main character soon and for him to receive a unique model as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if Umbric got a new character model. Wouldn't be surprised if he didn't either.

want to ask about lore stuff regarding High Elves? ask here
The Alliance gets the Horde's most popular race. The Horde should get the Alliance's most popular race in return. Alteraci Humans for the Horde!

    It is simple.

To understand, first you have to accept the premise that Void elves and High elves are now working intrinsically together as Ren'dorei, Children of the Void.

With the premise accepted, you can understand that this thread and the Void elf megathread could basically be merged (to put this in perspective, it's like having separate megathreads for Zandalari and Darkspear trolls instead of a single Troll megathread), and thereby this thread is regularly bumped because we talk about High elves but also, and mostly, Void elves.

And we are now at a time in the Story where the Ren'dorei are truly becoming main players of the Alliance, with Alleria Windrunner personally advising the newly-crowned King of Stormwind and High King of the Alliance, who is also her husband, Turalyon.

So there is already a lot of material to cover and talk about, and Spoilers, even more will be added once 10.0 is revealed.

And then 5 days later blizzard announces playable high elves as a high elf faction.

    @Tanaria

The four playable elf races or should I say elf factions - are basically the same as if we had Amani, Drakkkari, Gurubashi and Zandalari trolls available. Their intense player focus has enlarged them into something more that what they are in the eyes of the fans of these factions.

They are all elves. And minor variations of night elves - yes, minor. Born or made from the arcane essence of the well of eternity reshaped from the original troll form - all of them have the affinity to magic because of this - some groups, like the original northern kaldorei ignore this more so than others - well at least till cataclysm when they had it banned to prevent the legions return, but lifted it because they needed all the tricks they had to defend against horde attacks - but they all have it, whether they pay attention to it or not.

They also all love nature, again some groups moreso than others, i mean if you had to live off nature because you were too scared to use your arcane magic, you likely have a deeper appreciation than your kin who did not, still, it is intrinsic in all elves as the night elf origin shows the race quite philic towards nature which attracts Cenarius' attention. The deviations occur much later on, so the intrinsic nature love is in all - and there is evidence to show in each variation.

The current situation is political and ideological differences far more so than biological. Yes there are biological differences but very minor, they all have teh same lanky lean build, the same beauty focused appearance, same high intelligence and behaviourally and attitude wise they are also pretty much the same. What they choose to do and focus on is what varies - and is more based on school some focus on nature magic intesley, some on Elune, some on the Light, some on arcane magic, some on fel magic, some on forestry, hunting and tracking, some on fire magic, some on blood magic some on void magic .. You could merge them all into one and split them by school or profession instead - you wouldn't know the difference if it wasn't for their colouring.

They are more like nations of elves than they are species of elves, and their interactions are all convoluted because of their long history.

At this point int he game, you are picking elves based on who their firends are and what thier magic vibe is. Want nature and stars & moon arcane stuff , pick night elves. Want void and human interaction pick void elves. Want the high elf vibe but with scary horde friends, gold, light and native northern european like appearances with fire and arcane magic - pick Blood elves.. wan tthe arcane focus of the kaldorei empire but with blood elf friendship - pick nightborne.

THe niche for high elves is if you want something as close to Tolkeinesque elves as you can get, because some how all of these groups have enough twists to just not quite be it, at least not to the satisfaction of the lovers of it. Clearly if you want a look like - it's the blood elves, but that comes with bait and switch humans (forsaken) and essentially are bait and switch high elves.

Not sure why I needed to see this. High elves are an allied race, can have a small base in Stormwind / Hinterlands and then get ported over to Chromie to start questing...? At the end of the day, the core race is the one with the starter zone, so high elves wouldn't get that. They'd just get an intro quest and get ported to Stormwind, like the other allied races.
Blood Elves have Quel'Thalas since they are the core race.

High elves and blood elves are the same race, and they are all night elven derived. Look, it isn't rocket science to deduce blood elf and high elf involvement is intertwined... it is the same people that are actually tied by politics as well as ideology - their stories are involved as we have clearly seen over the years since WC3 TFT (classic, TBC, WotLK, cata, MoP, Legion, BFA) - have often seen both factions and mostly in respect to each other . This is in contrast to the night elves and Nightborne who are also the same people, but Suramar's long separation from the Darnassians can allow it to operate totally independent, not tied to them and instead have a future with the blood elves, despite being the same race as the Darnassians, hence they are often referred to as horde night elves.

With high elves, they've been mixed ever since the group split, there is no long separation, Darnassians long ago stopped referring to Suramar as home thinking it lost (whether that has changed since it actually wasn't and is now back isn't known yet or at least might take some time and positive interaction which looks unlikely because of blood elf friendship, but not impossible because of Farodin, the Val'sharahn and Moonguard). But high elves do very much feel home with Quel'thalas, high elves and blood elves have been mixing it up in anger and frustration and interacting albeit negatively mostly all this time.

So I said, same race but different faction of said race. This means high elf involvement as high elves is ass likely as it is not, and high elves will always be as long as blood elves and void elves exist. Whether payable or not.

quelthalas has a government and inhabitants who are the ones who fought to save quelthalas if it weren't for lady liadrin, lorthemar, halduron, rommath and the armies loyal to the country and who are not servants of human potential quelthalas would be land of the scourge.
it is the leaders of quelthalas and the new recruits fighting to protect their homeland who once again in 9.2.5 save quelthalas. quelthalas is the essence of what it is to be a blood elf. The blood elf are patriots who fight to protect and save Quelthalas, that is their reason for existing.

That doesnt mean Jack. You should know by now that things can change. High elves can be involved, take over the whole place, or it can be destroyed like Theramore and Teldrassil.

Doesnt matter how hard Liadri fought, or that it was saved from the scourge.. that's all part 9f the story and past story doesnt prevent future story.

Ask the night elves of Teldrassil and Suramar. In fact ask the high elves of Wc2 and RoC WC3.

Dalaran is an Alliance kingdom letting Blood elves to be part of it.

Quel'Thalas has - and will have - to do the same.

As an Alliance Thalassian, I have every right to return to Silvermoon, my homeland.

You're naive if you can't see that this is Blizzard's way of answering the complaints and get rid of Anduin once and for all.

Turalyon and Alleria now lead the Alliance.
