Hmmmm.
If the new datamined stuff coming out about the AU Orcs and Draenei is accurate, the Horde may start looked at the new golden eyed Blood Elves as Light corrupted.
Wouldn't take much of a plot twist for the Orcs and Forsaken to start going on a purging spree against the "few remaining" elves.
The same information suggests the random possibility of Lightbound Orcs (who would not join the Horde if playable). If that route if taken, There is nothing left to stop High Elves. In fact it might encourage High Elves as being the only uncorrupted version of the non-Night Elves left, since the seem to have been weaning themselves off the Sunwell's magic. Meaning that the Blood Elves might be forced from the Horde due to their "Light corruption" and forced to join the Alliance as they would have no remaining alternative but to either join or surrender to the Alliance. The Nightborne friends they have wouldn't be able to stop the combined Orcs should they decide the "Light" must be purged to save us all from their tyranny.
Close enough for me.
Wouldn't it be easier if Blizz just added few more hairstyles without tentacles, one or two pale, but more fleshy skincolor and one pale blonde/purewhite + one red haircolor? Do we need whole new allied race if we just can have more customization?
It's side by side comparison of belves with palest skincolor + black/silver hair and the most similar velf counterpart (male velf has tentacle hair, I know, but there are still few non-tentacled hair):
It works for me. It just needs a little bit of immagination and voila, I have a High Elf with black/silver hair, they just have exremely pale skin due to few years of fighting magic addiction/living in Northrend far away from sunlight/white skinpowder they use to distinguish themselves from tanned belves/was born like that/whatever you wish. Even eyecolor is right, it's blue. Damn, I was roleplaying a High Elf with a Night Elf dressed in Silvermoon styled outfit and it worked for me, too. I just had very tall and well build helf, that's all.
For example if I would want to roleplay a High Elf, it's obvious now that Void Elf base is good. It's just need to take the least "voidy" customization, right transmog and it works, I can pretend I'm a normal HE without any relation with void, I can have an arcanist like that:
Or knight like that:
They are high elves, they lived in Northrend since Third War and they suffered a lot from magic addiction and that's why they are so pale. And Void? What is Void? They were never related to this.
Immagination, that's all.
........................................
What is my point. I'm not against High Elves and I would prefer them much more than Void Elves who are just asspull race for me. But reality is just we have Void Elves, and this is the closest what we can get to HE in Alliance. It's highly doubtable they will add another playable elf race, but there's still possibility to fight for more customization. For one more skincolor and two more haircolors. For some tattoos (well, I'm for tattoos for all races!). And it should be close enough.
For example quick recolor of what I think of:
It's still not fleshy and I won't made it even similar to healthy color - it wouldn't fit the Void Elf theme. But alabaster white skin is closer to High Elf aesthetics than grey or blue, but still fitting gothic theme of velves. The same with haircolors - pinkish blonde and cherry red aren't natural, but those are haircolor that helves definitely could have (they can have silver, purple or blue hair as they are descendants of Night Elves, so why not red or pink?). I think it's a good compromise between void elf and high elf aesthetics. It would look good with blue skin and fit the vampiric theme, but it's also a one step closer to traditional High Elf look.

That's why I told about immagination.
It's cool to have a character looking exactly as you wish, but unfortunately ammount of customization in WoW isn't enough. With immagination I can be a Night Elf with tattoos. A fem dwarf with huge beard. A Drakkari troll. Everything.
Also, elves who were slowly turning into Wretched but stopped in half way, could look undead due to pale skin.
@Obelisk Kai highborne aren't the exclusive progenitors of the nightborne, they are of the high elves, not the nightborne. They are kaldorei (incl their ruling highborne)subjected to their own event and seclusion story different from the other two kaldorei groups (the hyjal survivors which incl the highborne high elf progenitors, and the shen'dralar highborne - the only exclusive highborne society from the sundering. nightborne are night elves who remained in Suramar, both highborne and non-highborne. They are not descendants either they are the original kaldorei altered slightly by the nightwell physically. In every other respect they are pre-existing kaldorei culture near the time of the sundering as described in WotA trilogy, the developers lifted Suramar from that description and brought that era of it to life as we see. The only thing changed is minor appearances we are not even sure the arcand'or cure won't reverse. Think of them more as a sidestep, rather than a descendant branch like the high elves. And note they aren't all highborne tho like kaldorei SOCIETY then, it was highborne ruled, but the culture wasn't known as highborne them, it was simply kaldorei culture .
Also I get Warcraft startedbhumans and orcs, but it was also overly simplistic and moved on from there. Although it always has that element, it is not nor does it have to be all exclusive to that. To say the factions getting along or some races having exceptions to the general course as some sort of prphibited by theme is presumptious and non progressive. Whiles sone things here remain the same evolve. Wow has always done both,. Simultaneously done new and different and expanded on old.
I think this development can certainly fit in this framework and make it more appealing, extending the fantasy adding new elements and diversity without eliminating the old. They are not mutually exclusive in this setting.

Woot the frog is back Sames I have lots to do the next few days!
EDIT: @Arcane-Villain, I won't deny people can't pretend. But the same could've been said for Mag'har Orcs and Dark Iron Dwarves. Indeed there have been people that just pretended their Orcs or Dwarves were one of those all these years, it didn't stop them from being major requests. There's a difference between pretending and then the game itself also providing those races for you.
But personally to me, when it comes to Void Elves. First, we're given what looks like an undead version of elves. Then on top of that these aren't even the same High Elves from say the Silver Covenant or Highvale etc. They're all exiled Blood Elves in the scenario where they get turned. It is still ambiguous whether more are being turned or not.
I may have said on different occasions that the game shows us whenever we see more things being trained or becoming something. For instance we see in-game that more DKs are being made in the starting zone. DHs are being trained in the Class hall. The fact that we only see mages/warlocks in the recruit scenario for Void Elves, then suddenly a whole bunch of warriors, hunters, and rogues are now available isn't "oh they just made more after the scenario" it's more a case of Blizzard will fudge the numbers for however they see fit.
And then on top of that, we understandably, can't have Void Elf Paladins. Something High Elves would for sure be able to be (I have explained this before but look into the Royal Guard and their transitions, they are referred to separately from warriors and priests when it came to joining up the Blood Knights, some were even members of the Silver Hand).
We just can't have High Elves right now because 1) Void Elves just came out of course and 2) BfA is all about "yeahh pride FOR THE HORDE" and "oh yeah go FOR THE ALLIANCE" (oh but btw play the other faction, we hope the races make you do that).
So basically, while Void Elves may be good enough for some HE fans. It's also clear that they're not good enough for other HE fans. And the latter seem to be willing to wait it out and continue hoping for proper Alliance High Elves.

I would argue that the Nightborne culturally are a time capsule, they are what Night Elf society used to be under Queen Azshara, a magocracy under the rule of the Highborne. The existence of the Nightwell has physically changed all the Nightborne however. Even though their culture is what Night Elf society used to be, they have had ten thousands of years separate evolution.
Therefore, while the modern kaldorei rejected the civilization and society that the Nightborne preserved, the Night Elves have the right to define what it means to be Night Elven. The Nightborne used to be Night Elves, but have changed. They are their own thing now. Just as the Void Elves are their own thing, distinct from Blood/High Elves.
I have to disagree. Warcraft has become more complex over time, this is true. And the factions have expanded beyond Orcs and Humans.
But Horde versus Alliance is the core of the franchise, it's foundation, the absolutely sacrosanct principle that should not, must not, can not be messed with. The factions can come together at times, as they have, but only in terms of shared interest and only under the aegis of the factions and not small groups splintering off to do their own thing.
The Horde and Alliance must remain at odds with each other and at arms length. The game cannot move past this because in too many ways, it IS the game. Blizzard has experimented plenty over the years. Maybe one day they'll lift the communication ban between the factiosn so that individual players can at least talk to the other side. But while some things evolve, some things are too fundamental to be messed with.
The Alliance and Horde split is the definition of such a thing.
Great work, dude! That "arcanist" transmog is really nice. Flashy but not garish. Very Thalassian!
Yeah, I'd like a dirty/pale blonde and maybe a reddy-brown hair colour to give us more variation. I find it frustrating how colours 5 and 8 on the wowhead model viewer are almost identical.

Blizzard still refuses to pander to HIgh Elf zealots. World tensions rise as the new found peace between North and South Korea falter as south Korean president admits to being anti-high elf. No word from Kim Jon Un.

It’s been 20 years since WoW died and high elf requests are still as strong as ever. With the official forums closed all the high elf fans moved to MMO champ and are still campaigning to add the elves to a game that’s been dead for decades.

omg yes
seeing people flip out on skype or whatever would be hilarious
change can't wait.
To be fair, a lot of Void Elves are just High Elves that traveled to Telogrus to learn about the void and join the meme'dorei.
So... Congratulations. You have High Elves
This world don't give us nothing. It be our lot to suffer... and our duty to fight back.
Elfposting is dangerous. Please consult your druid if you start making threads focusing on elves needing even more stuff]
My point its... you call me a whiny player because i use facts.
What you said there is closer to whining then what i said...way closer. That is my point.
And if you look at your other forum post there is a tendency to go to certain threads and react in a certain way .
Btw still you said i was whining while using facts. You have yet to proof anything about that
Just here to give my support to no High Elves for the Alliance.
Faction pride! Felt bad enough Alliance got purple Blood Elves. They don't need Horde's light flesh toned elves with options that Blood Elves should get.
Want to play a pretty light flesh toned race on Alliance? You've had humans since the start.
It's always funny watching the Alliance excuses.
Alliance: We got Kul'tiren and they are just fat humans!
- However, they ask for Vykrul which are just humans before they became smaller.
Alliance: We didn't want another purple elf on the Alliance side!
- However, they cried because they didn't get Nightborne. Another purple elf.
I could go on and on. Most people wanting High Elves even straight out ask for a copy/pase of Blood Elves with blue eyes. I've seen other request silly things such as Paladin class for Void Elves.
In the end of the day they just want Blood Elves with blue eyes and more hair, skin, tattoo, etc options.
I've seen them talking about altering the model. Well, you could, but in Lore they aren't altered. They are just blue eye'd Blood Elves. So anything else is not a High Elf.
Blood Elves are the story of High Elves and I would rather a MAIN playable race get new hair styles, skin colors, tattoos, jewellery, etc.

Blood Elves physically can't have blue eyes anymore. If you used fel or still do, your eyes are green. If you've been using the Sunwell, your eyes are starting to turn yellow as of BFA. If you're something like a Paladin or Priest, you've apparently had yellow eyes for a while. You can "use" the Sunwell even if you're not directly in touch with it, down to roughly the northern edge of the Plaguelands, meaning if you're a Horde Blood Elf (the faction of "High Elves" that stayed in Silvermoon longer than anyone else), you've been "breathing in" the Sunwell for way too long for its effects to be ignored. You either started sucking down the fel part of it while that was going on and liked it enough to keep doing it, or you sucked down the light part of it that's been going on long enough now that your eyes are yellow. No blue eyes, either way.
Even as of BC there wasn't any Blood Elves with blue eyes, it's way too late to add any.
I like it. A concise summary of some of the anti High Elf side's points. Not a complete rebuttal of course, there is still plenty more, but you focus on the most important point. The point that led the developers to reject playable High Elves, because they are identical to Blood Elves, that of faction diversity.
