    OW2 Idea, Feedback?

So we know OW2 is in the works. In light of the whole competetive/role select debate, I have my own thoughts.

Basically, the problem is that Blizzard is trying to do what should be left to people to do freely. Creating a competitive queue that people can join without full teams will always be a miserable experience for the majority of players. Fundamentally, strangers do not cooperate well. Coordination is built with practice and repetition. Players who are forced into teams will always tilt due to their forced teammates. These things will ALWAYS happen. They have happened since HALO and will continue to happen in every game that does queues.

So for my proposal. Stop wasting time and money on reporting departments and functions. Stop trying to police the playerbase which is far too large for you to handle effectively. Instead, build in a revolutionary large-scale amateur competition system where clean leaders can form a clan by getting enough signatures similar to a WoW guild and they can have their own permanent server 24/7 where their own player admins can curate the settings and player expectations and banlists.

This is how it worked back in the day when everyone had fun. You developed a list of servers with the players and gamemodes you liked. Playerbase sorted itself and if you jumped in a server with bad players, you just left. if you want competition you jump in a clan server. Build a /votekick and allow admins. Build it in the battlenet shell so friends list and everything else is still intact. Blizzard should focus on the professional league and allow us to handle the amateur leagues

For casual, create the casual arcade. forget normal queue. 2 “arcades”: one casual and one competitive.

I doubt there will be an Overwatch 2 and more so just an expansion of the game....they keep producing content...I still feel the game is too new to be already pushing out another iteration...even for Blizzard's timetables...could be wrong.

But i would like to see something to combat the role issues in the game. There's always going to be an issue when people have to be pidgeon holed into a role they dont like and saying "find a group" isn't really the best answer, even though that's the current one these days.

-They did say that OW2 was in production along with D4. Granted, that means it could be like 5 years from now.

-I think having permanent servers that develop reputations for their gameplay will fix it. it worked for TFC.

No we don't. In fact, it's highly unlikely. Blizzard isn't the game company that's all about pumping out sequels to milk franchises. We wait sometimes DECADES for a sequel from Blizzard.

They also have no reason to divide the playerbase between 2 Overwatch games. It would actually be a horrible move.

    So no.

I feel like once WoW is done (years and years in the future) Overwatch is the best universe they have to base their next MMO on, it would be sick

It only happens in online gaming because there are no consequences.

If I show up to a pickup game in my town, and I fuck around and screw the game up for everyone, when I show up again the next week, they're going to say "aww, hell naw, get out of here, asshole."

The problem with online competitive queueing is that they give people way too much leeway. The system for ragequitting is fine, it's hard to tell the difference between that and a disconnect. But if you're trolling/being abusive/not cooperating? First offense, season ban. Second offense, permanent competitive ban. Extreme instances of such, instant permanent competitive ban. Additional offenses with a competitive ban? Permaban from all game systems.

Connect these to potential account-wide penalties that affect all Blizzard products on that account.

Sure, people could get additional accounts, but there's little you can do about that. You CAN make penalties actually hurt. That's all they need to do; stop giving people any leash for abuse or fucking around.

I mean overwatch was born from a failed MMO so I doubt that'll ever happen

I think they're gonna wait to see how OWL goes and what the revenue looks like.

    Way too hard to police.

It'd be like trying to catch all the times you italicize words in your posts.

    Not particularly.

If you've got grounds to silence someone for abuse, I'm arguing that should be a season ban for a first offense, and a permaban from comp for a second. Permaban from the game for the third.

If you've got grounds to penalize someone for deliberately playing to lose, like putting his Symm teleporter in a spot where allies fall to their deaths, or a Torb who builds his turrent in spawn and spams emotes without contributing, same deal. Season ban first offense, permaban from comp for 2nd, perma from all for 3rd.

The policing is already happening, I'm just talking about heavier enforcement with real penalties people will actually feel. Which will either drive them to change, or will at least remove the problematic element.

Eh, I speak the way I type. I italicize to put emphasis on words, because I find it less annoying than underlining, bolding, or using colors.

Citation desperately needed for both of those claims.
A gun is like a parachute. If you need one, and don’t have one, you’ll probably never need one again.

“They” did not say this, some stock industry speculators said this with 0 fucks worth of actual knowledge. Some Wall Street asshat who wakes up every morning to a recording that he is king of the world assumed this was happening and speculated that blizzards stocks would rise because of it.

I heard that an alien race was going to get stuck on earth and they only eat rotten milk so you should definitely buy all the milk stock you can get your hands on!
If you push a button that finds you a 'random group' and it gives you a random group of people with random skill and random knowledge then you have no right to complain that a 'random group' button did what it was designed to do. The fault lies in your inability to make friends to play with instead of relying on a button designed to be random. It is a 'random group' button, not a 'best of the best' button.

The only thing I see OW2 good for is either:

    1) One that will come out in several years, updating the engine to keep up with the times. I'm not a fan of how WoW gradually updates their engine. It's too slow.
    2) A story-mode based game. A different team handles this, and it will allow lore to be pumped out a lot faster. This is one of the biggest flaws I think OW has right now. Naturally, this game wouldn't be called OW2 but OW with some subtitle.

If Blizzard goes with option 1, then it would be easy for PC accounts to be able to have their skins carry over, but console players won't have this luxury, so that's something to be ironed out.

Yeah, TBH, if they do an "OW2", it's more likely to be an engine upgrade, and possibly a character overhaul. And what I mean by the latter is maybe they have a new hero they want to transplant in because one of the current crop died in the story; say we had a new Soldier hero. Same abilities as Jack, exactly, but different voice lines and appearance. A legacy player, though, would have all Jack's content carry over, and you could choose which skin variants you wanted to use (but not mix and match). Entirely cosmetic, in other words. Players who don't buy the new content can continue using the older hero skins, but wouldn't be able to earn the new ones until they pay the entry price of whatever.

As long as you don't lock heroes and maps behind a new additional paywall, you don't split the community.

The problem with killing off characters though is that they have to mean something to the fanbase first. This goes back to what I said about how OW needs more lore. It's really barebones. Even April, the "lore event" month is really sparse. All we got is that Blackwatch killed someone in Talon. We can only speculate on the reprocussions.

Naturally I get that what you used is just an example, but for Blizzard to do anything balsy we need emotional investment.

Yeah, I was mostly just trying to make a technical case for how you could effectively retire one hero and introduce a replacement between games, without fucking up the gameplay and dividing the community.

I hardly think they release OW2 anytime soon. People invested so much time and money (not just the game but also loot boxes etc) as well as time and effort into this game. To abandon it after only 3-4 years would be a punch in the face for the many fans of the game and a very bad strategy for Blizzard.

If they want a new game, maybe with focus on balancing and a better competitive system, they should rather make an expansion to OW, with major changes, but keep the core of the game.
