If you are being pushed to the left or right by the current political climate, then you don't really have strong principals and are using emotional reasoning. The right thing remains the right thing (which for me tends to be a left thing) no matter who is in office. Am I more scared than ever for our democracy? Hell yes I am! But that doesn't drive me to react against it with other extreme ideas I wouldn't otherwise have.

On the otherhand I will not vote for anyone who will not call Trump exactly what I know he is, which means I'm pretty much voting straight Democrat. Thus, in this sense, I have been pushed more to the left by the gravess of our situatuon.

Your presidential vote may be worthless in that case, but blue states have plenty of Republican Congress members. I live in deep blue NJ, but my district is held by a Republican. So my vote does matter in that regard

Then you aren't discussing two garbage candidates, you are discussing two or more other candidates for Congress. As for Congressmen or Senators, it all depends on the candidate. Considering my three main priorities for politics is support of individual liberty, limited government, and the free markets, I rarely find a candidate from either of the two main parties that I support.

My main beliefs haven't changed. My voting habits have.

I used to consider each candidate and vote for them on their merits. In many cases that meant voting for the (R) candidate over the (D) candidate or picking a third party for lower offices where it's a possibility.

However there is no scenario in which I see voting for the current GOP in any race as the moral choice. The party has completely sold out to power and has entirely lost its way. It no longer stands for anything other than some weird fusion of fear and hatred with a dash of cult of personality.

When the GOP decides to go back to having principles then I'll consider them. Until then it's (D) all the way until the GOP is out of power.

If you had asked me 3 years ago what my political leanings were, I'd have said "center-left" . But I also didn't have much political interest back then

Seeing Trump and his crazy supporters changed that. I saw the way they acted and that inspired me to do a ton of my own research and learn a LOT about politics and government in general. My research has taught me that the far left is the answer.

And for non-Americans here, I don't even mean the American definition of far left, I'd be considered far left even by European standards :P

I know I'm not the only person Trump has pushed from relatively moderate to hard left. So thanks for that I suppose.

Edit: to clarify, I didn't just change to far left to spite Trump. All Trump did was give me an incredibly strong interest in politics and made me want to learn more. The result of me learning more is seeing the far left is the answer.
