Can someone explain the logic behind this Azerite armour for me?

So I logged into Beta and specced into my first talent at level 1 Artifact Neck and level 110. I then used my ability all the way to level 120. Upon entering a dungeon, I managed to loot a new Helmet droping at 310 (The level for normal dungeon loot at 120). Cool I thought, I'll replace it and spec back into my ability. Turns out I now have to wait till Artifact level 9 to spec back into the EXACT same talent that I have been using for the past 3 days from level 110-120. So essentially I literally feel like I've gone backwards by equipping a better ilvl helmet.

I just think that is really really stupid. Or am i missing something here?

You're going backwards temporarily... to be more powerful overall later. Think of it like switching to mouse+keyboard after being a console gamer your whole life.

I'd be willing to bet that not all new azerite armor pieces have identical traits than the last piece anyway.

Do note that the trait is(or at least, should be) stronger on the higher iLvl piece as well. So you're not simply getting back the exact same ability, you're getting a stronger version of it.

Instead of having one massive power leap on acquiring your tier set, you're getting a graduated staircase of power increases as you complete more difficult content.

It is made so that you need to keep grinding Azerite to open the same traits on higher ilvl gear.

There is no dump talent like with Artifacts, but they increase the bar on every new item you get.

Sooo we have to get drops... put points into said gear... and said gear gets replaced and we have to reput points into the next item? Or we just wearing one item in these slots all xpac?

You don't put points into the gear, you put it into your necklace.

The necklace builds levels slowly throughout questing and stuff, it never goes down. If you are at level 10, and you acquire gear with a level 1, 4, and 8 slot for instance, all of the slots will be unlocked as soon as you pick it up. The items themselves have set levels, though they will probably be a lot higher for certain raid gear.

Yeah and remember they removed Reforging, 90% of Enchants and Gems because they prevented you from equipping something right away

yes you are missng the fact that blizzard has to force people into farming island expeditions somehow so they made the choice to block azerite bonuses behind coupld of weeks of farming this shit

remeber in BfA dungeons will drop very low amount of azerite - like 10% of what islands are dropping - have fun farming that

Not exaxtly. Higher gear has just higher Azerite Lvl requirements. You always keep your level and expand upon it, it's bound to the necklace, but the chest/helm/shoulder slots you will obviously change depending on what drops for you. So if you have a normal chest of snoozefest and need level 12 for the first trait to unlock and now you get a heroic chest of snoozefest you will need lvl 15 to unlock it (numbers are made up, 10 is what you have a level 120 typically).

Something many people don't realize yet is that azerite gains are decoupled alot more from your main progression. You won't be getting 80% from WQs and your dungeon/raid content. You will probably have to run seperate content to level it. On the other hand if you like the azerite content you will end up with more levels than your dungeon/raid content loot allows you to spend it. Good times ahead.

Well worth quoting this, just to help clarify what the system actually is.

No, the new system is similar to the netherlight crucible, you have a neck piece which you put points into to level it up, these levels are on the neck piece so remain constant like your artifact level and apply across all specs too. Gear then has talents which require your neck slot to be a certain level to unlock said talent. Higher gear has higher requirements, but (should have) better talents.

yes pretty much this. So you are not constantly having to rebuild points you are just always powering up the necklace so when you get new gear if your necklace is already strong enough to unlock everything then you can just put your points wherever. It also makes switching from spec to spec a LOT less painful so you are not gearing 3 or 4 separate items.

Hm thanks for the explanations it clears it up for me ... can't say I am to excited for it...But this is coming from someone who misses one difficulty raids and maybe seeing a epic drop every one or two weeks.

They should experiment with other systems that make gameplay more engaging not some odd micro management mini talent system. But thats my 2 cents. I want to see how long Kultirans take to unlock and if its gonna put me to far behind my raid team I may not even play. Cause I certainly don't enjoy the alpha/beta. I wish you all best of luck in months to come.
